Blu Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Had completed a search of highly rated restaurants prior to booking this. Therefore our expectations were high.
We arrived nearly 30 mins early for our reservation and were promptly seated.
Through the foccacia to the Italian doughnuts , we never sought after service. They were all very attentive and prompt.
After hearing some good things about this restaurant I decided to try it during Winterlicious. The service and ambiance were good, however the food was poor. I ordered the beef carpaccio as my appetizer, it wasn't as flavourful as I expected it to be but it was still good. For dessert I ordered the blueberry panna cotta, it tasted just like any other panna cottas I've had in the past. For main I ordered the lamb shank, and it was one of the worst lamb shanks I've ever had. The meat was dry, bland, chewy and somewhat tasteless. The chef definitely slept through the cooking. It was not the kind of meat I was expecting at such a highly priced restaurant. Funny how the restaurant regards itself as one of the best Italian restaurants in Toronto. I will not recommend this restaurant to others nor will I return again.
We enjoyed the Winterlicious menu this past weekend. The ambience in the restaurant is lovely. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Comfortable seating and cozy. The menu was excellent. Especially appreciated the gluten free and vegan options on the menu. Everything was delicious. Our server was great...very attentive, informative, friendly and professional.
Overall good experience; charcuterie platter was very good (all items suggested by our server). Wine selection very good, pricing as expected. I was disappointed with the flavours in my main dish (gnocchi), however; under seasoned and somewhat cold when it arrived. My sister's risotto dish was quite good, however.
My friends and I got together to take advantage of Toronto's Winterlicious and try out a new restaurant. The restaurant is cozy - not too loud but loud enough to comfortably host small groups. The Zuppa Del Giorno was a butternut squash and carrot puree, which was really tasty. My vegan main, a panelle, was good but didn't wow me by any means. I got raspberry sorbet for dessert and it was surprisingly creamy. As a vegan, it would have been more worthwhile to order off the regular menu. I appreciate their attempt to be inclusive by offering vegan options but was disappointed that a restaurant of this caliber would offer an overpriced set menu. Service was excellent.
We went down for winterlicious very nice ambiance, food was excellent, just not enough, when a meal says it comes with brussel sprouts, you do expect more than four slices which didnt amount to one whole sprout. $17.50 for a 5oz glass of house red wine is rather steep as well as the automatic gratuity of 18%. I am a generous tipper but dislike being told how much to give
I've been to Blu before and it was quite good, but this time the food was not up to par at all. The swordfish was overcooked and lacking in flavour, the pasta swimming in oil. The tuna tartare was the one exception - delicious. Blueberry biscotti for dessert was stale and dry! This is an expensive restaurant that should really do much better. Are they under different management perhaps? Disappointing.
We had a fabulous meal at Blu. As soon as we walked into this elegant but comfortable space, we were greeted warmly. The maitre d' took our coats (no hanging/checking them ourselves) and showed us to a lovely corner table. The service was discreet but attentive. Our water glasses were kept filled, without having to ask. Very nice menu, with something for everyone. We started with the grilled calamari and the beef carpaccio. Both absolutely delicious. The carpaccio was melt in your mouth. I have never been a caper fan, but I am now converted to roasted capers. Our mains were the saltimbocca and the rack of lamb. Again, both excellent, and served together at the proper temperature. The lamb is one of the pricier items on the menu but it was a very generous portion and well worth the cost. Desserts were to die for, particularly the lime, coconut cannoli. Overall, an excellent meal - this will be our new go-to restaurant.
Great ambiance and good service. Food tasted good, however the portions were quite small for what you pay.
We chose the calamari for appetizers to share, for me and my husband, each one of us got one peice of squid.
The drinks were quite expensive too.
My husband had the lamb chops which he said was very good, portion wasn’t too bad.
I had the seafood pasta which was nothing special and the pasta was too little, again quite pricey for the amount of food you get.
The food was delicious. They had freshly baked focaccia and were generous when we asked for more. The servers were friendly and gave excellent recommendations. The dishes are expensive but worth the amount you spend. Portion sizes are just right. This was a Sunday evening so the ambience was quiet and mellow. Overall great experience. Highly recommended for a delicious dining experience.
Love, Love, Love! In our opinion, Toronto’s best restaurant! Gorgeous cuisine , spectacular service, amazing atmosphere, it’s absolutely phenomenal! We drive in an hour away to dine here.
My husband’s veal chop and my Ahi Tuna was off the chart DELICIOUS!!!
Great ambiance, and friendly service. Came on a Saturday night and did feel a little rushed by the staff, as there is probably quick turnover for weekend dinners. Would’ve enjoyed more time with the menu, and more time to enjoy the wine. I ordered the saffron risotto with grilled calamari, which was flavourful and delicious. My partner ordered the seafood linguine, which was lacking. The sauce was essentially a bland and watery garlic broth, which didn’t hold to the pasta or seafood, and didn’t have any flavour. Disappointing for the price, and our expectation of a restaurant with Italian cuisine. Aside from that dish, it was a good experience.
