Menu items of crispy oysters and seafood saute were better at other Charleston area restaurants. The waitress was great and very helpful and attentive. The place has so so decor but the sunset was great.
We had breakfast on the terrace. A plus is the proximity to the beach. However, I was missing the style. Food was served in plastic and paper cups, service was rather unfriendly. The bar and the inside of the restaurant were renovated.
Our waitress, Raquelle was awesome!
Best surf and turf I've had in a very long time! I wanted to lick my plate!
The brownie dessert was just so so but enough to satisfy my sweet tooth.
Great place with a great ocean view.
Food was okay. Blu had high reviews on Yelp, but I didn't feel it was deserved. Ordered Bang-bang shrimp and 5 shrimp on the plate and was just okay. I had a half-lb of very large steamed shrimp the night before, so...not such a great value for mediocre food.
Really enjoyed the food. Service was friendly and good. Nice view of the beach and outdoor area but was too chilly to sit outside.
You cannot beat the view. Good spot for a cocktail. Food is average.
In town on business for 2 nights and stayed at The Tides Hotel. The restaurant is located in the Tides and was very convenient for a business-related dinner with 2 other associates. The menu offered a good variety, our choice of fish was good for all. Server was knowledgeable, available, and prompt. It was a nice evening for all.
Enjoyed the evening. I would love to have gotten more than 3 scallops for almost $30 but they were delicious. Great ambiance also!
Came in for the Valentines menu. Nice selection for the three courses. fried oysters were awesome. The wine pairings were a nice touch.
We had a wonderful lunch, inside with window. The food was FABULOUS! Calamari with sauce was superb, watermelon salad terrific and lobster rolls were great. Would definitely return for dinner. Service with a smile.
Pretty good meal; only place open for Christmas dinner on Folly Beach. Good service, but a bit pricey for what you get.
We went to Blu on Christmas night. Initially it looked like I made a terrible call because the hostess and wait staff appeared to be disheveled and behind. We went to the bar for a drink and before we could order we got seated.
Our waitress was very busy, but attentive. She was able to overcome that and we had great service. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was good. We hope for the regular menu, but it was abbreviated with the holiday. Still, the food and service were great and a good time was had by all.
We were here on Christmas Day so they had a limited menu. The view was great.....however the food was just so so....nothing to talk about. The two hostesses were not very competent. Our waiter was pleasant.
We’ve eaten there before and I’ve always enjoyed the food and the service. A really great place right on the ocean. The people who work there are tops!
4th Christmas brunch for us. It has become our Christmas tradition. We love it.
The hotel has a strong scent which follows you to the restaurant where it is still strong but not headache inducing. Don’t even think of going to the bathroom as they have a different scent that is even stronger in there. You can actually taste it. Awful. The scallops had too much fishy taste to me and the fried green tomatoes weren’t anything special. I got a duck entree that was still quacking so I made them cook it more. Once it was cooked correctly it was very good. The beverage glasses were tiny so you needed refills constantly. Will not return.
We sat inside. Great decor, rude server, tastless food and the drinks came in plastic cups. We expected much more from this place and we will never return.
The overall dining experience was wonderful. Complaint about the ambiance was that the group beside us was loud and inconsiderate. The view was superb and the outdoor patio area was perfect for outdoor dining. If you want a more intimate meal, inside dining may be a better option. The food was delicious. Just wish there was more of it! :-) Calamari with the sauce was the best I can remember having. When they ask about desert, say yes and get the cobbler. We will return soon to try some more menu items.
Food and service were lacking. One entree was fine, the other not very good - over cooked. The band was so loud you couldn't have a normal conversation.
Decent meal, setting is the best feature. Went with a group of 8 friends on vacation celebrating 40th birthdays. Had requested an outdoor table and it was a wonderful spot - the patio overlooking the beach and pier was very enjoyable. Food, well, not so much. Shared a few appetizers among the group - Folly Fried Shrimp and fried calamari were good but nothing special; seared ahi tuna was overdone and the fish seemed to be of suspicious quality. For entrees, the crispy snapper and cheeseburger were well-received as was another fish special; shrimp & grits were disappointing, other dishes were fine but nothing outstanding. Didn't stay for dessert; service was friendly but a little disorganized. Location was definitely the highlight, an ok meal overall.
Food good, service horrible. They were out of iced tea, sparkling water, bread. Servers tried hard but were untrained. Air conditioning apparently set on "frigid". Asked for coffee after dinner and it was given to me in a paper Starbucks cup. Grossly overpriced for the value.
Food was very over seasoned. Took over 30 minutes to get out check after we asked for it. Nice view.
seared sea scallops and flounder was great; along with the peach cobbler. The waitress didn't know the menu that well; had to go back and ask questions.
Went there with the family for my birthday and found the service to be very slow and the food simply mediocre. Portions were small and prices high. I would not waste my money there again
The plus for Blu is that it is oceanfront. Food, service and surroundings are mediocre. There was nothing wrong with anything served, but there was nothing that stood out, either. Given the town of Folly Beach, there may not be anything better, however.
Horrible service and mediocre food.
We had a nice lunch with a wonderful view. We shared the blackened fish tacos and enjoyed our margaritas!
There were at least 3 hosts at any one time, none of whom had any idea what was going on in their restaurant. The Wait Staff ran in packs and had no apparent designated section or understanding of efficiency and were generally inattentive, except the water server. One food runner was particularly rude. The manager was friendly but the staff in general was, apparently, unmanageable. Expensive for average quality food. Much better options abound on the strip. Give Blu a miss!
Hotel restaurant on the sands of Folly Beach offers ocean views but mediocre food and disinterested , disorganized service. In fact, we have recommended that folks not go there for a nice meal and ambiance. If you want to drink, the outdoor bar was lively with live music. Besides waiting over an hour for our meal, a bus boy brought a dirty dish from another table and stacked it one of ours to take away! My lobster rissoto was tasteless and my husband left half the steak served him due to toughness and lack of flavor. This is really a food service place tacked onto a beach bar.
Also great for bringing the dog - seating outside. Its such a fun place & you can't beat the view.
Great Birthday Dinner! We love coming out to Blu! You can't beat the food or the View thank you
unfortunately our dinner on our last day of vacation was not up to par. was there with my family (wife and 4 adult daughters). 3 ordered the seafood pasta, which was so salty and the pasta so overcooked that it was inedible. i had a burger which was good...my wife said her salad with ahi tuna was good and our daughter who had crabcakes and salad indicated that her food was also good.
Paul our waiter was very good and actually adjusted the bill to reflect the issue. He was attentive and service was fine.
Maybe it was a bad day for the chef....needs to adjust the pasta dish prior to serving this to guests again.
Inside the restaurant was completely empty at 6:00 on a Monday night. Decided on outside beach front dining. Very uncomfortable having dinner with beach goers in their swimming attire using the same tables reserved for dining. Started with a wedge salad which didn't include a wedge? Plastic drink glasses. Service was horrible. One of two paying couples left due to lack of service. Coffee was cold cold... The entrees were actually very good. There is no reason this place could be a gold mine based on location and its tasty food. The place needs some real restaurant operational management. Without changes this place will fail.
The food was great. We had our beer served in a plastic cup. (Not impressed). The service was okay. The server was polite but was a little forgetful. The atmosphere was not what I expected. Did not realized the restaurant was inside a very busy hotel. Our food was delicious, it made up for all the other things.
The restaurant was pretty empty, so we had our choice of tables. Wait staff was very friendly, but not exceedingly attentive. Food was very good--pan seared scallops were well prepared and very fresh. Flounder was light and crisp. Desserts were rather disappointing. A good experience overall.
Restaurant has ocean views. Food is very reasonably priced, with several creative entrees. A good value. Lots of room for improvement, though some wait staff were particularly helpful and attentive.
Much better than you would expect from z hotel restaurant. Fish and veggies r very fresh, the menu refined and the presentation gratifying. An excellent meal served in an ultra casual beachfront setting. It is priced like a fine restaurant, however the product is as good, if not better, than that of downtown Charleston's higher end eateries.
I'm local and been many times. Very disappointed to see it going downhill. Took 10 minutes for a server to come over - 3 total tables seated. Risotto used to be excellent very poor. Shrimp and grits used to be very good. Shrimp overcooked and rue seemed thrown together. Don't know what's going on, but it isn't good.
