blu on the Avenue Ratings and Reviews
This place was good but I wouldn't say outstanding. The beef carpaccio was good but was lacking a dressing, it was just slightly drizzled but not enough for every bite. The baked fontina was too thin, needed to be thicker like a fondue. I think the pretzel covered black grouper was probably their signature dish and the best of what we tried. So I would say if you like grouper then give this place a try.
We came here for Magical Dining, and it was a very good choice for that. The lobster Cobb, grouper schnitzel and dessert would normally cost about $20 additional or more - main course was basically the cost of the whole 3-course meal. That lobster Cobb was very good - excellent ingredients, nice presentation, and not bad value even for normal price. The grouper schnitzel was, well, a little "misguided". Grouper does not need or even do well with that treatment (covered with cracked pretzel instead of bread crumbs". It was way overcooked, but pretty tasteless, since they relied on the coating to provide the salt. At $32, it's not a bad price for grouper, given the portion size, but I consider the regular price of most of the other entrees a little on the high side for a restaurant with a casual atmosphere (no table cloth, but cloth napkin). The Kahlua dessert was sort of 'meh'.
Great food and great service!
It wasn't busy at all on Sunday. Our server was very friendly and answered all questions patiently. Food was great! I had the avocado toast and a side of grits; both very tasty. Hubby had the ricotta pancakes. Pancakes were light and fluffy just as they should be. Definitely recommend.
Blu is one of my favorite Park Ave restaurants. The decor is modern and beautiful. While the food is always outstanding, this visit wasn't as enjoyable as usual. The restaurant was packed, which may have caused our orders to come out wrong and extremely slow service. For example, I ordered the Blackened Grouper Sandwich, and it came out not blackened and without ingredients listed on the menu. My group still had a great time, but it was a little disappointing.
We try to take advantage of as many Magical Dining experiences as we can during the month of September. Each year we always try new places to increase our options. Blu on the Avenue was great!! The atmosphere was light and casual. Our server was excellent and shared a lot about the menu and the restaurant in general. We had a great experience. Our appetizers the Crab Salad was perfect with a very nice presentation. We were surprised it was included in the fixed menu but very happy it was. We enjoyed the Grouper Schnitzel and Filet as our entrees. Both were great! This was by far our favorite Magical Dining experience so far this month. We will definitely be returning to Blu Avenue for future date nights!
Date night on the 3rd night of Magical Dining. It was rainy and Winter Park was nearly abandoned. After checking in to our reservation, the host had to be asked for the Magical Dining menus, but from that point on service was great. The menu for Magical Dining was wonderful. The lobster Cobb salad starter could be its own entree if just a hair larger. The grouper schnitzel was wonderful! The filet was perfect, as well. Finally, the "dolce" dessert was not too sweet and a perfect small size to end the meal.
I feel the prices were a little high for the quality of food and service. The expectation was as good of food as 310 and it did not compare. We both ordered the filet and I chose to get butterflied even though I shouldn't have to (ordered medium-well and was correct) and my boyfriend did not get butterflied since he feels that should not be a question at a steak place and his was not prepared properly (ordered medium-well and came medium-rare). My boyfriend and I went for his birthday and we were a bit disappointed. There was no up selling which some may like but when I ordered dessert my boyfriend wasn't asked, I actually asked him if he wanted something before the server left to put in my order. Sorry but not impressed.
We came in for father's day. To start we had the crab Rangoon Flatbread and fish dip. Both were amazing! Overall i was delighted with the food. I didn't taste my dad's swordfish but he said the noodles/sauce was way to salty and the actual fish a bit bland. The lobster grilled cheese was quite yummy. Service was a bit slow especially since it was not busy, but the waiter was friendly.
The food was great. Although for the price, it would have been nice to get a small salad or soup with the meal. We went on Mother's Day and sat outside. The ambience was a little louder than we'd like with the cars going by the avenue. And unfortunately they ran out of desserts so we weren't able to try any. Good experience overall but missed the mark on a few things ya.
My BF was visiting from NYC and we wanted to have Brunch on Sunday. Most places were booked and we were able to get a table at Blu. I've been there before and it was fine, not terrific but good.
We asked for a table outside which we got and we were happy and thankful for that. However, our waiter was awful, he seemed like he hated his job and would rather be anywhere than there waiting tables. I ordered Caesar with fish add-on; he brought me a risotto dish with chorizo, which I don't like. Because it would have meant having my BF wait while they prepared my correct order, I told the waiter I'd keep it. No big, thank you, just said 'my bad'.
I didn't expect much but I surely didn't expect to be charged for the wrong dish, which was $9 more than what I ordered , at a minimum charge me for what I ordered, not the wrong dish you brought me.
The manager never came over, the waiter was rude, all together, a bad experience.
Hubby and I had an early dinner here. Weather was gorgeous and this restaurant has pavement tables. Food was good with happy hour oysters and drinks. Our server was efficient but would have been nice if he would have smiled and given us the feeling of enjoying his job.
We will go back here it was also good value.
Food was outstanding however the night we went the service was awful. Waited almost an hour for appetizers then another 45 minutes for the entrees. The place was extremely crowded and noisy and the waitress tried her best with what she could but she stated that there was problems in the kitchen. Would try again but never on a busy night
