Blu Mangrove Grill Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit to Blue Mangrove. It had been recommended by friends, and it lived up to our expectations. The extensive menu provided choices for everyone. The food came out as expected and was very good. Service by our waitress, Jennifer, was excellent! Location on the river and love music made this a lovely evening. We will surely return!
Sometimes there are service issues here but tonight service was great. We both had crab cakes which were just OK. They were hot and looked nice but they were more bread filler than actual crabmeat so we would not order them again especially since there are so many better prepared choices on the menu. Our baked potatoes were perfect. The chef's veggies were excellent, tender crisp and very fresh. The spinach with bacon and goat cheese was equally as good and we were satisfied with our veggie choices. Brianna was our server and she knows what she is doing so service was very good.
The waitress was given a large outside seated party to serve after we had sat down. She took our beverage order and when she delivered it, she took our food order. My wife and I ordered the Clam chowder which was barely warm and then had to track down someone to take them back and bring out hot cups of chowder. Half way through the soup our entrees were brought out and we told the server to keep them warm. The waitress was difficult to get hold of and the hostess was just as hard to find. We were a party of 4 and the restaurant was not busy inside the dining room. I will not be going back to this restaurant. No consideration was made by the management for the poor service.
Lovely outlook with gorgeous view and nice ambience though the music was a bit loud periodically. Nice to have a couple of good places with views in Palmetto. The food wasn't as good as it had been in the past. Hopefully, it was just an off night. We will return.
This is a regular dining spot for us and often meet friends here as well as bring visitors. Tonights meal was a grouper sandwich, which we have frequently had at BM, and it was excellent as usual. Outdoor eating was great due to the pleasant weather and live music.
We brought out of town guests as Blu Mangrove is close by and we can depend on consistently decent food. Our friends loved their meal and as always mentioned my husband's fish tacos we very good. Once again I had a favorite, shrimp cocktail without the blue martini glass. The shrimp were, as always, excellent. Lots of tables were having the twin lobster special and our friends were impressed with the size of the lobsters served for the price.
We are very grateful to have Blu Mangrove in Palmetto
It was an everyday lunch with an out of town guest and we stopped in for a casual lunch with a waterfront view. Then came the rain and it was a no fuss move to the inside dining with no commotion, everything is fine atmosphere. Fine it was! Good service, and as expected good food. Blu Mangrove's shrimp cocktail is without a doubt the best, perfectly cooked shrimp and a favorite light meal for me. I had a side of grilled asparagus that I felt was a small portion for the price and unfortunately were overcooked and stringy. My husband had the grilled fish tacos, one of his favorites here, and he said they were perfect. Our guest had a grilled grouper sandwich she thoroughly enjoyed. Palmetto, we are fortunate to have Blu Mangrove as our only good dining spot in our backyard.
By 7:30 on a Friday night this restaurant was out of more than half of the items ordered, including specials and something as basic as a baked potato. Uninformed server returned long after taking original order to advise us that they were all out of...
This happened twice and included a server who rolled her eyes, commenting "I don't even know what to tell you at this point"
She disappeared for another 15+ minutes.
Food included overdone pasta, dry fish. We chose to pay our bill and find another place for coffee, drinks and dessert.
Won't be back.
Went to Blu Mangrove Grill for the fist time upon a recommendation from a friend. We had visitors from New York State and wanted a lunch spot on the Manatee River. I was impressed with from the parking to the outdoor seating, to the service to the food! There was plenty of food in fact I had to take 1/2 my meal home. The interior is spectacular with the Blue decor and spaciousness. The restroom was clean and more than adequate. The pricing for lunch was what I would call a moderately expensive menu but was what I was expecting. We'll go back again for sure. The only disappointing thing was the view was of a marina full of nice boats and not the river. But it was on the river.
It took 20 minutes for our waitress to come to the table and another 30 to get our drinks. The food took over an hour after ordered. The waitress was not at all friendly. Never brought us bread, did not offer dessert. The food was marginal at best. It was Valentine's Day and we took 4 guests...evidently people didn't show up for work but we were not told that until we were leaving. The service at this restaurant has always been poor even if you just go by for a drink. We've tried 6-8 times and are finally giving up on this restaurant. Great potential but just poorly run.
Valentine's Day was understandably busy. but we were seated fairly promptly upon arrival. Things rapidly deteriorated after that. Were it not for the water we were served, we could have died of thirst during the next hour. Our corpses would gone unnoticed. After trying several times to flag down to flag down members of the oblivious waitstaff, we finally got the attention of the gentleman who initially served our water. He sent over a waitress who was working several other tables (she appeared to be the only one truly working) who apologized for our wait. We told her we realized it was not her fault, since most of her co-workers were wandering about in total confusion. Our drinks arrived with ice mostly melted. We were finally served appetizers (Oysters Rockefeller and clams in broth) which were fairly good. All too soon the entrees arrived. The Shrimp Scampi was average. The moderately warm fried shrimp were too heavily breaded, but not terrible. The sides, (spinach, rice pilaf, green beans) glistened and dripped with oil, and the risotto was too overcooked to be worth eating. At the end, we thought our bill was rather high, but realized the kitchen's oil budget needed to be subsidized. Nothing will ever rust at Blu Mangrove, and it should be no surprise we will not be returning unless we're in need of lubrication. There is a severe lack of attention and good management here.
Service was very disappointing. Only 3 people in our group but food for 2 arrived way ahead of third order. The waitress kept saying it was coming but she had no idea why and we had to keep asking her to check. When it finally did, she just put it down with no apology or comment. She rarely came back to table for water or checking on us.
We live in Riviera Dunes so like to patronage this business. We took special guests for dinner and when the appetizers were being served, the server knocked over a glass and it broke on the table. Water spilled everywhere, glass shattered. Water dripped on my clothing and they did clean the mess up but a little disturbing as they were just swiping the cloth so that ice and glass flew off the table and there were dogs in attendance since we were outside. Food was good and we enjoyed our wine but I really think they should have given us a round of drinks or a dessert on the house. Out of the four people, one was a bartender and two waitstaff while in college and we discussed the poor service. I would suggest that the waitstaff receive some training concerning what to do make make a dining experience more positive when something happens. Accidents happen but seriously glass shattered and clothing very wet!
I really wanted to like this restaurant, but there were just too many things that marred our experience. The inside of the restaurant smelled strongly of fishy fish--not the fresh, salty smell of a seafood restaurant, but the decaying flesh of sea creatures left to rot on a dock in the sun. We did love the lounge singer as we walked in and the friendly hostess asked us if we wanted to sit inside or out. I asked if it smelled like cigarette smoke outside and she said no, so we chose outside seating and were immediately assailed with the smell of several lit cigarettes (gross). We stayed outside because the smell inside was worse. Our server, while energetic, didn't know what was on the draft beer list, despite having "worked all day" and then proceeded to flip through all of her checks and cash (probably about $500) on our table, looking for the list and coming up short. She fumbled through the rest of our service--asking if we wanted apps after we'd already told her, forgetting to provide us with flatware, and then charging us for several things we didn't order at the end of the night (followed by making us wait for about 15 minutes while she fixed it). The fish tacos were well past the sell-by date and the hamburger was pretty uninspired. The best thing about our meal was the smoked chicken wings--very delicious, but not worth getting another babysitter for and spending our only night out to eat them. We will not be returning despite the lovely location and live music.
We have been there here a number of times and have alays been four or five stars. I am somewhat of a tough rater which is why I did not have five stars all the way. They did not have their Snow Crab special but more than made up for it by substituting King Crabs at the same price. Which was truly a bargain.
As we walked in the door of the Blu Mangrove Grill the live music was loud and lively, almost to loud, but when we were seated the volume was just right! We ordered Grey Goose on the rocks and asked for blue cheese stuffed olives, we were then advised the olives were 50 cents each extra! Thinking they would be special we said yes, really a bit of hoopla for little result, they appeared to be a half stuffed out of the jar variety. This was more than made up for by a 7th oyster that arrived with my order of a 1/2 dz! The rest of the meal was great, we enjoyed fish and seafood pasta and could have taken some home as the portions are large.
Overall a very good experience, we'll be back!
Locals here and regulars at Blu Mangrove Grill. We always have good food just every now and then there are service issues as they seem to have a high rate to turn in the service arena. Today we brought out of towers for lunch and once again good food with great service. The shrimp cocktail is always succulent jumbo shrimp with a nice, spicy cocktail sauce and one of my favorite foods if I feel like eating on the lighter side. Two diners had another favorite of seafood tacos. One dinner ordered the side of carrots and asparagus and they arrived perfectly grilled and we all enjoyed them. We really enjoyed lunch today
We eat at Blu Mangrove on an average of two to three times a month. We consistently have well prepared food and have tried just about everything on the menu. Blu Mangrove is a favorite go to eatery for us as it is right here in Palmetto. It is nice to see the restaurant busy in Season but most of all is is nice to have a better place to eat in Palmetto. We never hesitate to send people to Blu Mangrove
The service was disappointing. My husband asked for a draft IPA as indicated on the menu and after a very long wait was brought a bottle IPA, and then was told that they did not have a draft IPA despite the claim on the menu. Then waited a long time for another choice. The food was ok. Just slow, unknowledgeable service.
This was a spur of the moment dinner, but typical of our visits to Blu Mangrove. This not only a close and convenient spot for us to eat out at, it also in casually chic. We go there for an out of this world hamburger as well as the special lobster feast. The view in the marina is perfect day or night and the live entertainment creates the right atmosphere.
