Blu Mangrove Grill Ratings and Reviews
We have been here before and decided to stop by after the Bradenton Boat Show, with some friends. Very disappointed. There was a Lunch Special Menu that offered Grouper Bites with fries, for $18. We ordered (2) of these. When they arrived, the portion sizes were pretty nice, as the chunks were larger and very lightly breaded. We took a bite of the grouper bites and we all couldn't believe how FISHY they were. We order Grouper Bites at almost every restaurant we have eaten at. No one at our table thinks this was Grouper. We think it was a fake Grouper? I googled this and they say some restaurants have gotten caught for fish swapping or using asian catfish, corvina or cod. It was SO fishy tasting that we doused it with tabasco and malt vinegar, since the waiter didn't come back for a while. We should have sent it back asap. OR it could have been very old Grouper, thus the reason it was the Lunch Special. Very disappointed. On a lighter note, the Onion Soup was AMAZING! Larger sized, nice amount of melted cheese and onions. The Happy Hour Drink Specials were decent, as we all had a glass of wine. We would never get the Grouper Bites again though. Oh, when we told the waiter that the Grouper Bites were Fishy, he just said "Sorry about that" and took the plates away. No resolution, no manager came over, nothing.
We went on a cool evening. Sat outside. Heaters next to table were very nice. Music on patio was very pleasant and not overpowering (noisy). Because of the chill that evening (~65 deg-70 deg), food did not stay warm (understandable). Blackened chicken on noodles was so-so (give it a C). Fish and Chips ok (give it a B), Philly Cheese Steak a B+, and the Sushi was an A. Good value on wine. We will definitely be back as this is a very relaxing atmosphere.
We went early on a weeknight during the holidays for an anniversary dinner. The place was virtually empty. Selection was wide with lots (maybe too many) options on the menu. The fish was very good, cooked perfectly but the salad and sides were just ok, nothing special, and not much flavor. Portions are large. Service was also spotty. Blue Mangrove seems to be trying to market itself as a foodie spot, but falls short. Suggest they pare down their menu, focus on taste and quality rather than variety and quantity.
I had been to the Blu Mangrove once for lunch. My dinner companions had never eaten there. One is a vegetarian and one is a hearty eater. Everyone was delighted with the menu selection and quality of the food. From the crab cakes to the scallops the food was wonderful. I had the grilled fish tacos, awesome.
We will be returning to the Blu Mangrove!
We didn't know what to expect. The restaurant is in a marina near some condos. We sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance and live music. The view is of huge yachts, but it's water and there were nice fire elements (torches, heaters, fire pit). We had great food - we shared an escargot - not too much garlic and topped with melted cheese - yummy. My spouse had a Ruben - it was huge - and I had a shrimp piccata which was mouth watering. We had a fun time and will return.
We have written so many reviews about Blu Mangrove Grille that we are out of words. The is establishment works hard at serving consistently good food, presented well, properly prepared and we eat here so much that we consider Blu Mangrove our favorite go to restaurant in Palmetto. We took a friend to have dinner here this time and he loved his food, grouper. It was a bit chilly for dining outside but we all agreed from the window that outside is a great marina setting to relax and enjoy a meal
We had a Thanksgiving buffet -style meal at the restaurant. Although the overall choice was limited, the shrimp cocktail appetizer was excellent, with unlimited shrimp. The roasted turkey and prime rib were both excellent, although the selection of accompanying vegetables was a bit limited and, like many buffets, tended to being overcooked unless you were able to get a fresh tray straight from the kitchen. The choice of desserts was very good. Overall, a good experience. We'll be back to try the a la carte menu.
Once again our go to local place is Blu Mangrove. It was our typical simple, too late and too tired to cook meal of burgers and although they are always good here, tonight was exceptional. Our burgers were perfectly cooked medium rare with a touch of pink and beautifully presented with coleslaw. The shredded red onion was a nice addition on top of a ripe tomato slice and not a great big thick slice of onion like most places. Keep it up Blu Mangrove. We are very satisfied customers
We have been going to blu mangrove for a few years. The food has changed the prices haven’t. The ambiance is good. The heaters all need to be replaced. Wednesday used to be a full lobster. Now just lobster tails for same price. My food was cold. We will still come to blu mangrove but not as often
I had called to ask about the availability of Stone Crabs since this was a special birthday lunch and that was her request. I was told they had some but when I got there for lunch, I was told that they didn't get any in that day. This made for a very disappointing birthday lunch since we had to order from the regular menu. After we left, I called a few other restaurants nearby and they all had Stone Crabs. Needless to say, that has damaged my view in the reliability of your restaurant for consistency in selections and availability. I understand things can run out later in the evening, but this was lunch so the information was misleading.
Great setting, friendly wait service and generally very good food. The creamy chicken vegetable soup was superb, as were three of the four entrees. Only disappointment was the prime rib, which was seriously undercooked initially and a poor quality piece of meat. For the price paid the expectation was definitely not met. Only negative mark on an otherwise enjoyable meal/evening.
We sat outside to eat, great atmosphere with live music. Its facing east so no sunset view. Food and service were fantastic. I had Island Maki sushi roll and my friend had Shrimp Alfredo. Inside dining area looked awesome so we will be back to dine inside this winter(:
Every now and then there are service issues at Blu Mangrove . Tonight the restaurant was very busy but service was fine and we really enjoyed our food. My husband had the pork chop, perfectly cooked and delicious and definitely too big, so he had lunch for tomorrow. I had the chicken piccata. I ordinarily do not eat chicken in restaurants because chicken is such a staple at home. Tonight I craved it and enjoyed all I could eat. Once again too much food so I have lunch for tomorrow. Enjoyed the food and the service tonight
The server was very slow to take our order and the restaurant was empty. The food was good, but took forever to come out. Overall, the waiter was not there. Claimed he had a table outside and was busy. Again, the restaurant that had been crowded at 7, was empty at 8 and my table had not even place their order.
Although it was not very busy, service was not the best, granted we had a big table but she had help. Our meals were not brought out at same time. I was satisfied with my dish but my friend said her crabcake was terrible. I tasted it, not awful but not good. Other's dishes were mediocre. Of note, I had not been here for about 2 years due to the quality of the food but we wanted a nice place to sit outside other than our normal spots. Drinks were slow coming too and don't advertise a spicy margarita and not have it be spicy at all and don't advertise Patron but give me Jose Cuervo.
Try the coleslaw. It is fresh, chewy, fiilled with shredded Brussel Sprouts and bits of kale and eating it tonight made us feel like were doing something healthy with great taste. Our burgers, yes we ate the entire roll, were perfectly prepared and delicious. But then again, we always have a good burgers at Blu Mangrove. Hot as it is right now, outside was busy and inside was quiet, peaceful and enjoyable. Good service tonight.
After an excellent first dining experience in August of 2016, each visit since has been more disappointing than the last. Our latest dining experience included one specific request due to a food allergy and it was completely ignored by he kitchen and attempt to correct by the server. in addition the kitchen was terribly slow. The only positive was the kids in the party enjoyed the Brownie Sunday.
On the Open Table scale of 1 to 5, tonight's burgers were spot on a solid 5. But then we always have a good to great burger here. But service tonight, hum hate to complain because server was friendly but just not on top of our table. We never had our water refilled. We did a bottle of red wine and questioned Merlot to Go law and it seems as though server was unfamiliar. On her behalf she did have several larger groups outside but we were left in the dust. Our wine was never refreshed. We asked for coleslaw with our burgers but one came with fries anyway and we had to ask for the coleslaw but not with our server as she never checked. So although server was polite with a big smile I am even reluctant to give her a 3. The ultimate was having to ask for a bag to carry out our bottle of wine.
Service on the patio was quite slow so we had appetizers and a bottle of wine while sitting there then moved indoors to see if the service was any better. We got the same server but it did seem to go faster once inside. Food was average. I woud probably go again if invited but would not put it in my list of top 20 restaurants to visit.
Introduced an out of town "foodie" friend this evening. He marveled at the quality of the shrimp cocktail which is always one of my favorites. He also thought the crab Louie was well done and excellent value. One diners ribs were tasty but a bit tough. I enjoyed the sliders. It truly was a slow evening at Blu Mangrove and Palmetto neighbors, you need to get out and eat here and enjoy the quiet and good food
Six friends got together at the restaurant to catch up on life. We sat outside on the terrace ( lovely view ) and even though it was quite hot out the misters gave some relief. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable about the menu. The food was delicious, I had the fried scallops and clam chowder. Everything was fresh and tasty. Love this restaurant. Plenty of food and drink for the money.
My husband chose this restaurant for Father's Day. We've been here many many times over the years with quite a few Owerships. We always enjoy the view, the service and the food. The only complaint I had was how small the Vodka Martini on the rocks was and I asked for large olives but the bartender gave me 1 large and 2 smashed small ones plus all the ice he put in this tiny glass that I had 2 sips and it was gone at $7.00. I asked our waitress to get me large olives and she said they don't have any more. Who runs out of olives for goodness sake and especially on a holiday? My husband had a glass of Cabernet and it was a decent pour at $5 and he enjoyed it and that's all that counts seeing it was his day. We both had the Lobster Special and we shared a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail Martini. The food was awesome and the price was reasonable! We'll be back but I will never order a cocktail from there but stick to a glass of wine!
