We booked this restaurant because of the online menu. When we got there: 1) it was hard to find. It’s actually inside The Marriott. 2) The Bar was packed, loud and hopping but the restaurant itself was dead. Maybe one other table for two 3) the menu is not at all Italian. The only pasta offered was meat lasagna. Not many vegetarian / fish options. And it was a COMPLETELY different menu then online. Apparently they had re-did the menu to be more pub like. No Lobster Tails or pasta dishes. Not even any pizza offering. We were VERY disappointed.
We were staying at the Marriott and had dinner here our last night in town. The space is pretty though a bit noisy since it is wide open to the hotel lobby. Even though the place was nearly empty, we were seated right along the back section where they keep the dishes and serve from which wasn't the best seat in the house.
Our server was fine and did a good job.
The food was pretty good. I had the lasagna which had clearly been sitting around and reheated but it was well made and tasty. My wife had the chicken piccata and said it was good.
One thing I'd point out is that they have a very limited menu. There are only 5 entrees so if you are thinking about going there, take a look at the menu and make sure everyone in your party has something to eat.
Prices were very reasonable especially considering the location at a full-service hotel across the street from the convention center. That's typically an environment where you expect to pay a premium but these prices were very fair.
I would definitely recommend the place overall. If we found ourselves in town again, it would certainly be on our list of places to dine.
Blu was reserved through Open Table but they had no idea we were coming which was awkward. We had out hearts set on certain menu items for my husband's birthday by looking at their website. Upon being seated, we were given a menu with only 1/3 of the online menu choices. We were told the menu no longer matched what was on the website. We graciously selected other menu options and overall the staff was friendly and accommodating. We ate there for the convenience of location because we had an event at 7pm that we had to make. Otherwise, we would have probably not stayed.
We sat and waited for awhile with no server and finally had to ask the hostess where the server was. The server finally came and took our drink orders. When he returned with our 2 beers we ordered, he spilled one into my wife's purse.. only offering a not so heart- felt "sorry.' We were in a rush to get to a concert so we stuck it out, but in another situation I would have just left. You would think they would offer to at least comp your drink when they spill it all over a nice purse. Never again.. only if I was held hostage in the hotel.
The food was good. Lasagna was delicious, and enough for 2 or 3. Wait staff excellent. Unfortunately, we were the only diners at 8:00 on a Friday night. The restaurant is in a hotel, and there are lots of restaurants close by. I think the Sunday brunch would be the best bet. Highlight: there is an extensive Bourbon menu. We had Pappy Van Winkle as an after dinner drink.
Very good omelet bar. Very good breakfast foods including excellent fried potatoes and biscuits and gravy (always a must with our family). Eggs cooked to order with toast were also available. Very nice assortment of lunch items and a very nice pasta saute station. Very nice dessert selection and good bottomless Mimosas. Thought we had found a keeper for future Sunday Brunches when our kids are all in town . . . until we were told this was the last Sunday Brunch. They were switching to a Sunday Breakfast Buffet that will end at 1:00 pm.
Please reconsider . . . especially on Mother's Day, Easter and Father's Day!
Excellent place for a family Sunday brunch. Celebrating our granddaughters 25 birthday and they came with some deserts on a platter while the jazz combo played happy birthday. Nice touch. Waitress was friendly and around always to fill our unlimited mimosas.
My wife and I went to Blu to celebrate my birthday. The hostess was very accommodating and we were seated in a matter of minutes. John, our waiter was not only efficient but entertaining as well. The buffet spread was excellent though it could have been enhanced with a couple more veggie options; there was only a brussel sprout and a potato offering. The chicken breast in a pesto sauce was exceptional, and as we all know chicken breast on a buffet table can be dry and unpleasant. The band played happy birthday, I was brought a small confection with a lit candle and my wife and I were emotionally moved. I would most certainly recommend Blu and ask for John.
The ample sized portioned lasagna I ordered was very tasty and enjoyable, and the cheese was seared perfectly on top. Maybe a bit more ricotta cheese in the layers would have been ideal for me. The Kentucky bibb lettuce salad was fresh and tasty. As for my girlfriend, she found the pork chop and the sauce to be bland. She says the mashed potatoes were also bland and butter-less. She would have preferred either the pork chop or the sauce to have been seasoned/ tasteful in any fashion. Adding salt didn't make it better for her. The Makers Mark cocktail with lime was good. Overall we had a good dinner and enjoyed the atmosphere and decor.
We booked this restaurant as a pre-concert dinner with friends on a Saturday night. With a 6 pm reservation we were the first customers. Only 4 more tables (in a fairly large dining room) were occupied during the dinner. With its location in the Marriott it might be more of a weekday - business option. The service was attentive, the food was good. The downtown location was a plus.
At 1:00 the Sunday brunch was a disaster. None of the dishes was warm. The omelet station had one soggy English Muffin for its Eggs Benedict, no onions for an omelet and only three spinach leaves so this vegetarian wound up with cold potatoes and an badly over cooked omelet. But there was a nice fruit selection.
Super Dinner - Love this place. Spent my birthday here and it was a great night with amazing food! The service was quick and polite. Joe our server quietly watched our table and seemed to be there exactly when we needed him for refills. The manager checked on us and made helpful suggestions when we reviewed the menu.
Our Dinner was delicious but I could make a meal out of the appetizers and just get them all. The ones we tried were amazing and I am looking forward to returning soon. Also mixed drinks from the bar were very good. This was my first time using open table and I really like how easy it was!
The waiter ignored us..we had to ask for water...we went to the manager and left the meal and the restaurant because of the waiter...oh the food...rib and chicken were bland. The manager apologized and said we didn t have to pay for the horrendous service. The Blu is obviously under new management because our previous 2 visits were very enjoyable. We won t go back.
The menu and decor set expectations the good and service can't meet. Our server had a great attitude and was attentive but he was inexperienced at moderately fine dining. Other than the burrata salad, the dishes were not tasty and the portions were way too large. Its common today to get portions big enough to feed two, but this place serves portions big enough to serve three.
Heavy garlic or perhaps garlic salt on most things.
The burrata salad was good, but instead of neutral crostini or its served with thick foccacia slathered with garlic butter and heavy savory spice. Not good. Cooks and servers need experience under a more seasoned leader.
Wow, has this place tanked! I lived in Louisville until 2007. I thought highly of this restaurant then. Over the last 9 years, I've returned for multiple business trips and stayed in the Marriott that houses this restaurant. Unfortunately, it is consistently declined in quality and service. The sea scallops I had tonight were OK, and that's all I can say. The service was terrible. After rushing me to get my order in, they dropped my food on the table and forgot about me. After I finished with what I wanted from the entrée, I waited for more than 15 minutes for somebody to note I was just reading email on my phone and take the plate away. That didn't happen, so I put the plate on the other side of the table, and watched as waiters, buspersons, and others passed by in a virtually empty restaurant and ignored me. Terrible!
Add to all this, the table was obviously designed by somebody trained in torture. I was seated at a booth, and the poles on the table ran so closely to the bench, I could not slide across without going through gross contortions of my ankles and pelvis. It was obviously designed for 3-year olds or persons of similar size who had no feet.
Let me start off by saving that, my fiancee and I have dined at Blu a couple of times before and we loved it. It's safe to say that this restaurant is only for "date night" and couples. If you want to have a romantic dinner for two, that's your place. With that being said, I reserved a table for 20 for a birthday dinner for my fiancee, and they were not prepared. Our server was nice enough, but she failed to offer us kids menus although we had eight kids in our party. Some of our guests sent their kid's food back because they wouldn't eat it and you would've thought that would've set a light bulb off to offer the kids menu but she did not. It wasn't until one of our guests asked that we were informed. I ordered a steak and it came out well done instead of medium well and it took them another 30 minutes to bring my food, so I just had them pack it to go. It took another 20 minutes to get my son a refill on his drink. I don't know what happened to their menu either. The other times we've dined there, I feel like they had a better variety.... no one really cared for the menu or the food and the portions are terribly small for the price. Their drinks were good and strong so that was a plus. We also found out that they are without a manager and seemed understaffed so that may have had a great deal to do with the slow service. Overall I like Blu, they just had a bad night.
We went to Blu for Sunday brunch for a birthday celebration. It was fantastic in every way from start to finish. Trina was our server and she was excellent!
There was a 3 part jazz band in an offset room, so the music was the perfect level and the perfect vibe for our get together.
The food was outstanding! They had an omelet station, a bourbon station, breakfast station, anti-pasta, salad and cheese bar, carving board (beef tenderloin!) and a dessert bar. And their chocolate pie was better than any I've ever tasted.
The atmosphere was very comfortable and wasn't stuffy in any way. You could go casual or dressy.
Blu made my step mother feel so special for her birthday celebration.
