Blu Ratings and Reviews
The food was very good, no complaints but it was not spectacular. Our waitress was dull, not the caliber of employee for that kind of restauran. Perhaps if we had had a more animated and interactive waitress we would have enjoyed the place more. Thankfully the company was good. My husband did not like going through the fitness club to get there but that didn't bother me.
I dine at Blu fairly regularly. I especially like it for pre-theater dinnner, as I did this last visit. I like the atmosphere and design - sleek yet comfortable. The staff is friendly and efficient. The menu is exactly the kind I like: simple dishes, well prepared, with a bit of flair but not overly fussy or striving too hard to be "artistic." I also find that the pricing at Blue is reasonable, considering the quality of the food and preparation.
This last visit I requested a table away from the bar (which can be noisy at times), and we got exactly the right type of table I had requested. The waiter was efficient and attentive, and got us our bill promptly so that we could make our curtain for the theater.
In its modern by warm setting that offers a view of the larger buildings in Boston unobstructed by the very short ones -- not the view from the top of a skyscraper, but more like one of the roof of an apartment building -- Blu offered us a relaxed (and unrushed) experience. The server was pleasant, and our meals each had interesting combinations that went well together. Not so much the place for a quick bite before the theater as the one for a romantic one afterwards.
Overall would give Blu 3.5 stars. The food was prepared nicely and was tasty. It's presentation was excellent. The service was cheerful and friendly. The location is close to the Theater District and its adjacent parking makes it a great pick for an evening on the town.
The view and locale are definitely unique, but that's about it. This is great if you're staying at the Ritz and want an easy meal. But as a place to go beyond that, skip it. It's waaaay overpriced for what it is. Nothing bad, but just completely average and run of the mill. I don't want to get a dish and feel like I could have easily done better myself at home, and that's what this felt like.
This place has so much potential. Great views, excellent trendy, urban vibe. Excellent service that makes you feel like you are having a 5-star experience. But Blu misses the mark on the food. Just terrible. I did something I have never done before and sent a meal back. I can eat just about anything, but the trout was nearly inedible. The replacement meal (gnocchi) was not much better. Change the chef and I'd go back in a second!
Great view and interior design. Service was mediocre, most of the time we felt forgotten even though the restaurant was half empty and clearly the staff were not very busy. Food was bland and unimaginative, the bread had more taste than the entres. Pricing is moderate but still seems too high for the quality of food and service. Go for the view but don't expect much else.
Ok we were there on a Monday and were the only patrons. That made it FANTASTIC. Service was there when needed and everything was brought out at a good pace. Food was very good and the space looks down Washington Street dominated by the Parmount's marque. Very romantic with about 30-feet of floor to soaring ceilings windows. Very nice romantic spot and just the right size for personal attention. This is something of a hidden gem.
Went with good friends for anniversary dinner for both couples. Thought would be a fun night in the city. Though food and service were both good, Blu was empty on a Saturday night. Only one other table occupied and few folks at bar. If want "intimate" setting is the place. View was not as good as expected.
Small, Not a lot of selection on the dessert menu, the group of women next to our table were noticeably having a great time(loud), Not a great view(Over looking the parking lot), Love the colorful lighting(Maybe a little to dark), filet mignon was EXCELLENT(Melt in your mouth), chicken breast with spinach was also good.
We decided to try Blu given location - close to Wang Center. Our service was super - we were seated & finished with more than ample time to attend our event. So no complaints in terms of getting a meal in before the show. Food was ok - not great. Nothing really stood out - but nothing was "bad" either. Collectively we found the appetizers/salads better than the entrees. Ambience is kind of fun, although horizontal view a lot better than vertical (down) - big parking lot!
I have been here a number of times for lunch, but this was my first trip for dinner. I brought a date here, the food was good, ambiance was great, and the service was excellent. There are definitely restaurants in Boston that have a better menu, but Blu definitely trumps most for presentation and location.
