Blu Ratings and Reviews
Food: I can appreciate clean and simple cuisine, however, I found all the dishes to lack much needed seasoning.
We ordered the scallop/pork belly dish and lobster salad appetizer. Scallops were gritty but cooked appropriately and served on top of the pork belly which took away the crunch factor. The salad was my favorite dish. Perfectly dressed and lobster was prepared well. Our entrees included an over-cooked ribeye steak and a bolognese that was oddly reminiscent of chef Boyardee. The ribeye had a nice crust but was medium to medium well in some parts and it was ordered medium rare. Those who are fans of a sweeter, tomato purée-like sauce may enjoy it. Needless to say, we didn’t stay for dessert.
Service: it’s hard to say service is horrible if there isn’t any. I appreciated that our waiter was a straight to the point kind of guy. He took our order once and served us food. No small talk, perfect. We waited 10-15 mins with empty cocktail glasses until he came by to collect the empty glasses without asking if we’d like another beverage. We patiently waited for him to collect our other used dishes before interrupting his race to the finish line. He was clearly busy because he didn’t stop moving for a minute but I wasn’t there to time his speed. I just wanted a drink. We told him about the steak when he collected the plates, as a suggestion to the chef so no one else would have the same problem, but he inspected the half I cut up (to show the uneven over-cooking) in the light and nodded in agreement followed by an “okay”. Good talk.
Overall: This would be great for the bar area.
Came here for lunch on Valentine’s Day for lunch and had a lovely experience! Food was great, but the view was better! We will definitely be coming back. We had Will as a server and he was incredibly helpful with the menu and made good suggestions. Thanks for a great meal Blu!
Great view of theater district, interesting building architecture in restaurant area. Food was excellent all around - appetizers, salmon entree, lamb entree, and dessert. Wines were outstanding as was the coffee. The entry through a cafe and adjacent to a health club is a little odd but once you're in the restaurant you forget about that and the atmosphere is very nice. We'll be back!
We came to blu before the theater. We were promptly seated at a lovely table with an view of Washington st. Our waiter was very professional , he didn’t t rush us but was there when needed . The kale salad was excellent , wine and beer list presented good choices. We enjoyed fusilli and fig and goat cheese flat bread , both well prepared and very tasty . Good place , nice view , not too pricey , we will return .
We had a wonderful dinner before our visit to the theater. I had the rack of lamb, and my husband had the duck breast, which both were perfectly cooked to our liking. Our table had a perfect view of the street below in the theater district. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs. We will definitely come back again!
The view was lovely. The food was not bad, but not good enough for the price (compared to other restaurants nearby - priced close to Ostra, quality close to Back Deck). On a rainy night when you don't want to venture far from the Opera house before a show, it worked - but I doubt I'll go back.
We loved the atmosphere and the view of downtown from the fourth floor. The fig prosciutto flatbread appetizer was very good. We enjoyed both the roasted duck and the beet salad with salmon. Portions were on the small side but adequate. Our server was attentive. I ordered a mixed drink that was very strong, too strong to drink, but that is just my opinion. Definitely worth a try. We will come back again.
This was my first time at Blu and I loved it! Took my boyfriend here to celebrate his new job and we both really enjoyed our meals and the appetizers were notably great. The cocktails were nice too! Great atmosphere and I requested a table by the window, so the view was nice too!
Overall, we love Blu. Been there multiple times. The service was fantastic. Very attentive and always pleasant and professional. If I had one piece of feedback it would be that I ordered my duck medium rare and it came out more like medium well. Although still very tasty, it was a little bit dry. I ate it anyway as we had to head to the theatre. We definitely go back.
We went to Blu before going to the theatre. It's very convenient to downtown Boston and theatre district. The view is very nice looking down Washington Street towards the Paramount Theatre and beyond, especially at night when everything is lit up. Wait staff was very nice and attentive, although forgot to bring a requested second glass of wine for my friend. The extra-dirty vodka martini was perfect! We started out sharing the Caprese salad which they split for us in the kitchen. Nothing to write home about. They put the buffalo mozzarella on a half of tomato (tomato wasn't very good) and the ratio wasn't quite right. Then we both had the swordfish and substituted the lobster mashed potatoes for spaghetti squash and roasted asparagus. That was delicious and enjoyed that very much. Did not have dessert because we like to get peanut M&Ms at the theatre:-) All in all, a nice place with great ambience and would definitely go there again.
Every aspect of our experience at Blu was exceptional from the view to the food and the service. The choices were diverse, healthy, tasty, and perfectly sized. The person serving us took care to make sure all our needs were met, and the check came quickly when it was time for us to catch a show at a nearby theater. Although you have to enter a large building and take an elevator to get there, the view is totally worth it!
View was absolutely amazing! Food tasted great and came out quickly (though it wasn’t too busy). Our waiter was a little slow and less attentive to our table than those around us. Noise level was just right, chatty but not loud or overwhelming by any means. Would definitely come back to try other tasty items on their menu!
Food was delicious, slightly pricey but all excellent. Not too noisy for talking, friendly service was impeccable, waiter checked to see if we had to make it to a show (we did not) so it was relaxed and not rushed at all. This was my second time and I plan to return!
