I was a little hesitant to go here after reading it was in the Equinox sports club. However I'm glad we went. The service was very good. The drinks were great, my Old Fashioned was made properly with 1 large cube. The flat bread appetizer was large and tasty. The salmon entre was also very well done with fingerling potatoes, roasted Brussel sprouts, and carrots.
Great place for a pre-theater dinner!! Relatively small dining room, nice and quiet. Service was very good - friendly, attentive but not too much, and we were able to enjoy a leisurely meal. Fried calamari were excellent! Italian sausage flatbread was good but broccoli rabe was overcooked. Then the herb roast cod was delicious!
Waiter was excellent. Food came out in a timely manner. Food quality was decent. Expected higher quality food for price.
Food was OK. Two of us had salads with protein added, they were good. Another ordered the swordfish, barely ate any, said that it had no flavor.
What a wonderful spot at which to dine before going to the theater! The dining room is so beautiful with a view that is stunning. Fantastic food and service also, but I would have given the food five stars if they had served what I call a REAL Caesar salad, unpickled anchovies that is, and had green beans that were really tasty! Hubby had swordfish over lobster mashed potato and I had the rack of lamb, both delish with the small exceptions above. Oh, and the cheesecake turtle dessert couldn’t be beat!
Blu is a favorite of ours. It is located in the heart of the theater district, has great food and atmosphere, and the wait staff is outstanding. We go regularly to the theater from the suburbs, and the travel time is unpredictable, but Blu is always accommodating when we get caught in unexpected traffic.
The food was delicious. I had the herb cod with vegetables There were so many different tastes that each bite was a pleasant surprise. The tapas platter for 2 to share was also delightful. This is a restaurant where you can hear each other and that was my number one reason for choosing it. We had a lovely view of the theatre district from the fourth floor. My guests were impressed with my choice. Everyone was pleased with their main course as well. Highly recommend if you have out of town visitors. We took a walk on the nearby Boston Common to see the holiday-lit trees which was a nice prelude to our dinner.
Did not like the menus choices
Always a lovely experience here. This was our second time visiting Blu and we could not have been more thrilled. The food is excellent (I had the salmon) and the view cannot be beat. We will definitely be back in the future, likely the next time we do another friends-night-out!
Excellent food in a room with great views of the neighborhood.
Good food, nice ambience, really nice service. Good price.
Everything was perfect.
Was pleasantly surprised by how nice Blu was as is never heard of it before. I found it by searching online so it was a risk booking. We all really enjoyed our food, the service and the view of downtown crossing. If you can plan ahead try to book a window table!!!
Food was delicious with great views of the theater district.
The food and drinks were wonderful. Great place to eat before seeing a show!
Went to Blu with friends prior to the theater and had an great experience. They were very accommodating and flexible for dietary constraints and late arrivals. Portions were generous and food delicious. Definitely will go back.
Blu is always our “go to” restaurant before attending shows in Boston. It’s only a short walk from the theatre district and the service, food and view are all outstanding!
Very nice restaurant , service was great as well as the food .
Wonderful service and the view is to die for.
We were absolutely delighted with the food, service and great menu. Coming from the south shore we will definitely tell our friends to have dinner at Blu. A great end to an evening in Boston. Hope to return soon in 2020.
My wife and I were quite pleased with the room. It had a fresh look and the lighting was perfect for a romantic dinner. We were both underwhelmed by the food. My wife had the vegan feast that by her description tasted funky, and was under seasoned. I had the rack of lamb that was also under seasoned and was over done and quite tough. We had theater tickets so didn’t complain as we would have been late. Maybe just an off night but noticed man next to us sent his steak back. Our waiter was attentive so no complaints about service.
2 year anniversary dinner before the nutcracker. Unbelievable experience, we’ll be together until death do us part because of the time we shared at blu!
The view from our table, looking up at the theater marquis lights, was amazing. My wife said her dinner was excellent. My calmari was very nice, nothing spectacular. The kale salad was a bit of a miss, in my opinion.
Phil is a delight , surprised it is not busier as the food is outstanding. Thank you
Reliable and good food. One of my favorite places in downtown Boston.
Drinks were so-so. I had the pear vodka drink and it tasted like bland baby food. Food was fine, but should have better. More of a "food for food's sake before a show" than an enjoyable meal. Tends to happen with restaurants in the theatre district. Ambiance is nice - very contemporary with a great view of the Paramount Theatre. Although it shares a lobby with the Equinox gym.
the view is amazing at night but the food is very so so - the tapas plate came cold and the food was disappointing. it would be a venue for a drink for its view - but not for diner.
Our daughters 25th birthday
Just love the ambiance , service, and overall quality of a dining experience. The menu changes seasonally and it’s always good!
Nice salad, great wine, enjoyed scallops with lobster risotto. Very pleasant ambiance with nice view of Washington street and paramount theater.
I LOVE blu. Gorgeous setting four stories above the Theater District, so one dines bathed in the soft light. Tables spaced graciously apart, so one doesn’t have to hear another’s recitation of Her Awful Day at one’s elbow. Subdued and gentle service (no “I’m Bruce and I’ll be your server tonight”)—-although I have gotten to know the names of the servers because they are so very good, and I keep coming back. Diver scallops with lobster risotto was the perfect combination of cozy and elegant. My guest loved the cod. I have never had a bad meal or a bad experience at blu.
Food and service were very good. But very quiet for a Thursday night.
One of Boston's best kept secrets! Blu is fantastic! An amazing view, fabulous service, excellent food, reasonable prices and QUIET! Did I mention the amazing view? Floor to ceiling windows? No need to even dress up! Love Blu and highly recommend!
Great place to eat before or after a show. All the tables were full but we didn't feel crammed in. Also the noise level was pretty low so we were able to talk and here each other. The tuna tartar was perfection- I would go back again just for that. All portion sizes were great and huge but also not small just right. It was also nice that Blu is on the 4th floor so you get a better view. Our waiter also asked if we were attending a show after so he could make sure we were done our meal on time- very thoughful
The location is good for a pre theater dinner near Boston Opera House. We were lucky enlightened to score a table near the window with a view. Food was edible but underwhelming, not least at those prices. Specific complaints / one guest asked for their fish not to be covered in sauce, it was, in my case pasta itself was the opposite of all dente, it was watery and soggy, the basil pesto was mediocre, barely a hit of basil and the consistency of thin gravy - I even suspected it was made with something else. When food stooges we had to ask for silverware - again at those prices that’s sloppy service. In Fairness our server was pleasant and polite but clearly had his hands full at that time. Probably won’t go back.
Wonderful restaurant pre-theatre dining. Good wine list and good service.
Thank you so much for the great review. It makes us really happy that you enjoyed your dinner within us. Hope to see you back soon!!!
Great staff and great location. Lite bites as well as a full menu. Get on in there after shopping or before the theatre. You wont be disappointed!

Our 3rd pre-theater dinner at Blu. Food great as usual and the waiter was the best - efficient and detail oriented and friendly.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this great review. We really appreciate it! Hope to see you back soon!!!
this is my 500th review on open table and this was one of two most enjoyable restaurants I have eaten in. Everything was terrific and we will be back soon!

Cauliflower soup was delicious!
High end service.
Thank you so much for letting us know that you enjoyed dining with us. Hope to see you back soon!!!!
Friday evening, before the theater, we arrived at Blu 20 minutes before our reservation. There was no problem being seated early. Our waiter was extremely efficient with water, drinks, our dinner orders, bread & dessert. The food was outstanding! I had the scallops with lobster risotto & an arugula salad...amazing! The scallops were large & cooked to perfection! My niece had the steak. She said it melted in her mouth & was cooked to order...medium well. Her wife had pasta with bolognese sauce & garlic bread. She also commented on how delicious it was. We also enjoyed our desserts...turtle cheesecake, Italian donuts with ice cream & chocolate mousse cake. Do not hesitate to indulge in a fantastic meal at Blu!!!
Thank you so much for the great review and private note. We are really happy you and your friends enjoyed dining with us. Hope to see you back soon!!!!
Blu is an excellent stop for dinner before a show. The location (next to a fitness center on the 4th floor) is a bit odd, but the restaurant is lovely. The view over Washington Street with the theater lights and energy of the people on the street is what I love. The food and service is also very good. Don't be put off by the "entrance" by elevator: it is worth the experience at the top! It is a very short walk to the Opera House.
Thank you so much for the great review. We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know how much you enjoyed dining with us. Hope to see you back soon!!!!
