Blooming Grove Inn
Good food but consistently nice quality. Very good service. A little bit on the pricey side.
Outstanding outdoor dining ! A varied menu with top-notch service made a memorable anniversary dinner!
We celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary at the Blooming Grove Inn because we wanted to stay local, but try someplace we hadn't been before. When we made the reservation, we indicated it was for a special occasion, and cited 10th Wedding Anniversary. When we arrived, the owner had a vase filled with a dozen beautiful roses for me to take home on the table! It was very thoughtful. The decor was great, the staff were tremendously friendly and it was fairly loud because our seat was placed close to the musical entertainment (who was pleasant, took requests, and enjoyable).
We had the calamari to start, which was cooked to perfection, and was a generous portion. I enjoyed several expresso martinis, also made to perfection.
My husband ordered the Ahi Tuna special that came with Wasabi Mashed Yukon Gold potatoes and Swiss Char. It wasn't a great cut, and was overcooked (they told us it would be rare, it was definitely closer to medium.) It wasn't seasoned well, so his side was far more exciting.
I asked our waiter for his recommendation, and went with the Bronzino special, which came over Basmati Rice with with lemon, garlic, spinach, butter and capers. It was by far, the best sea bass I ever had, again, a generous portion, and which I enjoyed as leftovers for lunch the next day. I would encourage you to get a recommendation from the staff if ordering off the specials menu.
Dessert was a Chocolate Mousse Cake, gigantic portion. The flavor was ok, but a little bland.
Overall, highly recommend.
Through word of mouth, I heard this place was fantastic, so we decided to try it out for a special occasion. Word of advice: RUN! The "host" was rude and couldn't crack a smile to save a life. Certainly not happy to see us, this guy clearly wanted to be anywhere but there. After we were seated by this absolute delight of a zombie, we immediately noticed that we had to raise our voices to hear each other across the table. The one and only time we saw our waitress was to put in a drink order. She brought our drinks and an appetizer and never saw her again. An hour later, after glasses were dry for at least 30 minutes, I decided to try the bar to get a refill. I was ignored by the bartender and gave up. We walked out after an hour of nothing but drinks and an appetizer. The coconut shrimp was fantastic, but still falls short of making up for the awful service. This was by far the worst "dining" experience I've had since I lived in the area. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy and would compare the Blooming Grove Inn to the 6th circle of hell. EXTREMELY disappointed and will not be returning. You'll get better service and more pleasant staff at McDonald's.
UPDATE: In response to Steve's 5 star review, which is a clear attempt to defend your business's shortcomings: There is no excuse for poor service. What you are describing in your "review" is exactly that... an excuse. The staff was rude and inattentive. The excuse you fed me on the phone about being short a cook does not explain nor excuse being ignored for A FULL HOUR at our table. Your bartender didn't acknowledge me either. If you are short staffed on a Saturday night, hire more staff or cross-train. Plain and simple. For the record, the couple sitting at the table behind us felt the same way, but must have been repeat customers. Unfortunately, it was our first and last time. This is part of being a business owner. Take it on the nose and chalk it up as a learning experience.
We sat in the bar area and listened to music as we ate- great vibe
We have dined at Blooming Grove many times. They just changed to a new menu, which has lots of choice. We love the patio seating, but unfortunately we dined on a rainy day, so we sat inside. Inside ambience is very nice. The restaurant handled a party of 8 with no problem. It's a favorite and we will return.
My fiancee and I dined here with some friends last week and we were all very happy with the entire experience. The cocktails to start with were delicious, especially my fiancee's mango martini. We had the bottled water and house Malbec ($25) which was fine! I had outstanding mussels, while my fiancee had the soup de jour. For main course, I had the short ribs, which were delicious. Everybody ate everything. The staff were quite attentive and the ambiance was very welcoming. If you go, I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy your meal!
We had a very lovely dinner! The seafood risotto appetizer was excellent. Entrees were tasty. I wasn’t thrilled with the mashed potatoes (was it horseradish added?) but the tuna was quite good. Fairly attentive service. We would and probably will return.
Relaxing atmosphere, friendly bar, good food and beautiful outdoor seating.
Food was DELICIOUS. We had a great time. A bit pricey and a tad noisy, but not overwhelmingly on both.
This was my first visit and it will not be my last. My party enjoyed the price fixed menu and variety of offerings. Everyone's meal was was perfectly prepared and presented. The service was helpful, attentive and we especially appreciated the timely dish and glass clearing.
Great find and great food.
Very good. A little loud on bar side of restaurant. Definitely going back.
Always wanted to try this place, as it is close by. All the negatives people have mentioned were true. Ignored by staff as we waited for table. No one even said hello. Took over an hour for food to be served despite the empty tables around us. Prices do not reflect quality. Tuna 6/10, chicken Marsala 7/10, pork was excellent. No bread or water refills offered. Will try it again and continue to hope it improves.
We are sorry that your experience was not what you expected and we are taking corrective action to improve. We also respectfully disagree with parts of the review, particularly with the claim that you were ignored before you were seated. A full statement can be found on Trip Advisor.
Three out of the four of us had salad as a first course. We all agreed that they were the best salads we'd ever eaten at a restaurant. All our main courses were also delicious.
We also appreciated the fact that there are [slightly cheaper] "house" bottles of wine, each offered for $25.00. And they constituted a nice selection of reds and whites, too.
Our only regret is that we didn't ask to be seated in the room where the musician was performing. We knew that he would be there and wanted to hear him, but this was our first time at Blooming Grove Inn, so when we were shown to our seats, we didn't know that we had the option of sitting in the bar area, where he was located. We really didn't hear him at all in the room where we were seated and felt bad about that.
We could see that the grounds will make for a beautiful view in the spring and early summer, so we will make sure to return then.
Second time here... both times had reservations and sat accordingly. Excellent food and cocktails! I preferred the dining room near the bar. The room where you enter lacks a little something. You won’t be disappointed. We will be back for sure... want to sit on patio in warmer weather.
Staff was extremely accomodating. Coldn't have been more sattisfied
Food and service is always very good at Blooming Grove. Five people enjoyed a great late lunch - two had the seafood salad and the other 3 had a lunch special burger. Of course, their desserts are tremendous. We shared a banana cream pie (a favorite at Blooming Grove) and a lemon cake (light and delicious). Chaz, the bar tender (and banquet specialist) is always very nice. Will go back! Can't wait for the outside dining to begin.
As always food and service was outstanding. Barbara Trent was there that evening which made the time there even more enjoyable. Looking forward to the next visit.
Outstanding service, grate tasting food, beautiful atmosphere, great bar, staff is pleasant. Great musicians. Phenomenal desserts.
Perfecto! We arrived in between lunch and dinner, so our server allowed us to select from the lunch menu. He was amiable, the chef's and bar specials were delicious, and the clean up prompt.
Devin, our server, was delightful.
Our lunches were very good - pastrami melt, short-rib burger, soup and sandwich.
We had been here a few times for dinners, but this visit for lunch remoinded us how nice the place is.
Good food...half of the staff was very young and inexperienced but trying...atmosphere was pleasant.
If the entree’s were more in the $22-28 range we would go every week, but most of the specials were $35-45 range. A bit high in price. Service was good and food was good.
Excellent, diverse menu with a good number of specials. Plentiful portion with superb taste. Dining was accompanied by a guitar player who was excellent and not too loud. Server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. This was our first time there but it will not be our last.
Great meatball appetizer. If it is not on the menu, ask for it!
Food always excellent. Great variability in menu. Very nice wine list, and even offer a $25 per bottle selection of wines. Drink prices extremely competitive for a fine restaurant, ex: $10 Beefeater martini's, and VO manhattans. Carafes filled with iced water placed (and refilled) on table.
Service is a highlight. Very professional, attentive waitstaff (Jamie is awesome!).
Recent dinner for 4 consisting of 6 cocktails, bottle of wine, 2 salads, 4 entrees (2 specials), tax and tip was $260.
Other then the waitress’ there is nothing else to say. My parents always said....”if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.”
Then.....why did you say something? Leaving a one star review makes a pretty strong statement. What was it specifically that warranted a one star review? We appreciate all feedback, good and bad. We use it to get better and better at what we do. We would really appreciate a call to 609-882-1150 to hear about your experience. Tell us what we can do to make you agree with the 95% of customers that have left us a positive review.
Food was delicious as always - had the salmon entree and my guest had the steak entree. It was a wee-bit crowded due to Valentine's Day compared to normal lunch. The Blackberry Sangria was delicious as well!
Great food with friendly service, we enjoy dining at the Blooming Grove Inn.
Thank you Jack! We appreciate your business.
I drove 1 1/2 hours and my sister drove from PA to go to the Inn. It was worth every minute . The service was "right on the money" from beginning to end. Our club sandwiches were outstanding because they were made with REAL turkey! The macaroni salad was homemade and melted in our mouths! We shared a piece of delectable Key Lime Pie which was one of the best we've ever had! What a way to celebrate my birthday! I am going to be going back very soon!!
Thanks so much for the great review! We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed everything. We see that it's a far trip for you but we hope you'll visit again whenever you can.
Service was great, and it's such a pretty restaurant. Great live music playing throughout the evening. Food was yummy!
2nd visit. Food and service was great both times. Service was prompt and friendly. Continued to check on our needs and satisfaction.
The ambiance is superb thanks to the very talented guitarist. The cocktails are excellent. The food selection is varied and delicious. The portions are generous. Overall a great expereince. Our new favorite in this area.
We always have a wonderful meal at Blooming Grove. This time, the noise level was unusually high. This made hearing our dining partners difficult. We had requested a quiet table and I believe we got one, as we had it before. Somehow it was just very loud that evening. Food was still very good. Price was reasonable.
As usual the service and food were superb. We had ten people and the service was well organized and the food was warm when served. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to get that special attention.
This was our first time at Blooming Garden. A beautiful restaurant in an historic house was just what we were looking for in our “date” night ( married 48 yrs!). We were brought into the front room next to the bar where live music was softly being sung by a one man guitar player. All our favorite songs! We were promptly attended to with delicious warm bread and drinks. Our waitstaff was pleasant and prompt. Our food choices were both fish, I thought mine was delicious but my husband thought his butterfish over cooked and chewy. I’m not sure why restaurants present food stacked on top of each other on the plate. It’s probably just us but we’re not used to it although the presentation is beautiful. That’s the only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars. We will definitely be back soon.
This may very well be Ewing Township's best kept secret. Dinner was for 4 during the Christmas holidays.
The decor, ambiance, food and staff were excellent and hospitable. Staff did not mind that we ate and talked for 3 hours - told us to relax and enjoy the evening.
Delicious entrees, refreshing beverages and a fireplace in the dining room truly made our visit complete and enjoyable. Yes, we'll go back again... and again. Kudos to the chef!!
There is also some good live music here on selected evenings .
Great food and service!
Daddy-daughter pre-Christmas dinner.
