This is the second visit here. First lunch then this time dinner. The ever attentive professor was very interesting. The students were polite, well dressed, and clear with explanations when required. We felt that our server required returns to 'the source' to ensure she had the correct explanation of one/two of the menu items. Was she fully briefed? If briefed, had she fully understood the description? Were our questions hard?
This is a wonderful location. Exceptionally clean. The food choices are varied for a wide selection. The preparation and display were high quality and appealing to the eye. I question the wine selection. Considering the high quality and highly diversified possibilities available through VQA, having California wines do not match. Economy is one thing, taste, quality and local Canadian should be the mark. We will return
The food was amazing and the service was great! If this is an indication of the future of the local restaurant industry things are in good hands!
I have been going to Bloom for many many years. Used to go there every month, then they stop changing their menu every 2nd week, and thus I reduced my frequency, to almost once a year. It had not been there for over a year and thought to go there again to the new Bloom. The new place is cold and very very open. All the traffic in the hallways with glass takes away all the privacy of fine dinning.
I have introduced Bloom to many of my friend over all these years. I don't think I will be returning.
The service was great and the food was excellent. Beverages were refilled without having to ask. They catered to my allergies and made me a special dessert not on the menu. It was fantastic!
Excellent food and excellent service. A wonderful experience.
Great food. Great service. A bit slow, but totally understandable as the students are still learning. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The ambience was pleasant and the servers, although reticent, were very polite and made every effort to be hospitable. My first time at the restaurant was for dinner a few weeks ago. Everything was wonderful for our group of 10 and everyone was in awe of the quality of the meals. Unfortunately, compared to the first visit, this second experience on February 20th for lunch proved to be less than mediocre. Our soup arrived lukewarm and two of the four meals were undercooked. As the one to recommend Bloom to the group, I felt unsatisfied with my choice. However, given my initial experience, I plan to go back again ... just not right away.
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely post valentines meal. The food was wonderful. I had the risotto and my hubby had the hanger beef. The soup was perfect and the green apple sorbet with toffee was the perfect ending to a delicious meal
Excellent Valentine’s Day dinner!
Lovely looking restaurant. I felt that there were too many people serving us and asking the same questions It may be better to assign one person / server for the entire meal.
I asked for dressing on the side and it arrived with dressing on squash salad so I scraped some off and ate half of the appetizer.
Overall the experience was okay.
Great value for reasonable price. Amazing food and service! Will definitely recommend and make next reservation!
Seated promptly. Our waiter tried his best to communicate with us, but was a bit hard to understand. The food was very good. Exceptional value.
Enjoyed all three courses and service was efficient. Thank you so much.
This was our second visit to Bloom. The ambiance is lovely, the student servers very keen to ensure a hospitable environment with true concern for the pleasure of their diners. The ink linguine seafood platter was scrumptious with interest for the palate in every bite. I highly recommend this dish for seafood lovers.
The food and the presentation were outstanding. Excellent value for the price. Our servers lacked confidence, which is understandable since it was their 2nd time taking orders. Getting 10 individual bilks straightened out took way too long. Nevertheless, I'd highly recommend Bloom!
Food was excellent , staff friendly. We will be back!
The service was superb and the food was delicious as always!
Our service was great, very professional! There were quite a few customers when we were there which made the restaurant seem energetic & bustling. Given the amount of people seated, service was still very efficient. Enjoyed our experience, would definitely recommend.
This was a very rewarding experience! It was interesting to be part of the first day of training for the servers at this college learning restaurant. The maitre de made sure we were well taken care of inspite of the obvious learning curves of the student staff. Nice to be part of their learning and we look forward to returning toward the end of the training course.
The service was impeccable, but not in your face, the food was wonderful and presentation was superb.
Appetizer (squash & pear salad) was excellent - equivalent to 5 star restaurant. So good I asked for the recipe and program co-ordinator was kind enough to provide. Brie burger was too rare for my liking, not consistent with my 2 companions' burgers which were fairly well done. Burgers and fries were much too salty, but overall flavour was good. Very enjoyable experience despite all, because restaurant ambience was great and student servers were very polite and eager to please. Will definitely try again.
You have to understand that Bloom s a teaching facility and there will be bumps along the way. The value was very good. We will definitely go back.
Our food and service were both great. We would definitely recommend Bloom to anyone interested in a great meal and great value, while being a part of the students training program. We were delighted.
Great dinner and the servers were attentive. We will be back
Totally different from the previous restaurant. Bright, and great for a social gathering.
The College students do a great job with the food and service.
Can’t believe the expansion of the Waterloo Campus. The food prep Learning facilities are amazing.
Absolutely amazing meal. Incredible service. Great wines and atmosphere. My favourite place to dine!
Absolutely amazing! From the moment you walk in to the time you leave, the experience is top notch. They have sparkling and still water, kept in glass carafe at your table. Wine and cocktail list has a nice selection. Food portions are fair size. Made our next reservation and can’t wait to return! Thank you for an enjoyable dinner!
It was very good and we will return.
The food was free licious and well presented. We were treated very politely and overall our experience was great.
The only things I may suggest is having a vegan option or Gluten free as more and more people have allergies and are trying to go green. They will continue to be able to enjoy the great environment!
Awesome ambiance and fantastic food
Spectacular food presented in a delightful way. Service was extraordinary.
Unfortunately parking is a trial.
It was our first time visiting the restaurant and it was very enjoyable. The server was so sweet and enthusiastic -he truly wanted our experience to be pleasant. I had no idea of what the menu was going to be like and was pleasantly surprised that our 16 year old son (who is very fussy) enjoyed the steak! (He doesn't like the steak that his dad barbecues.). We are coming again in December with our daughter when she returns home from Halifax and are looking forward to another visit.
Non-alcoholic mint, cherry, orange slushie--delicious!
Charcuterie--beautifully presented; lovely range of tastes; some found the chorizo too spicy, others just right; I usually dislike liver intensely (I often eat vegetarian and was only trying someone else's) but the mousse was amazing! Don't know that I've had bresaola before but wow that was good.
Roasted squash/pear salad--PHENOMENAL! Gorgeous mix of flavours, never had such featherlike shreds of parmesan, pepitas a nice touch. One of the better appetizers I've had in my life.
Seafood chowder--lovely, substantial, savoury.
Arctic char: "Out of this world" says the six-year-old in our party. "Fantastico!" says the 79-year-old.
Noodles themselves amazing, but a bit too much butter. Spinach fine (perfect colour) but likewise a bit too buttery
Rice bowl: BEST-tasting tofu I've ever had, ditto the mushrooms, delightful flavour of cucumber and rice. Egg lovely though I was originally wary.
Chocolate tart with praline-"Zowie!" (6-year-old), but too rich to eat the whole thing, even for the adults.
Waterloo Apple Fritters--such a cool idea; the apples beautiful and delicious in their small dice, but the honey was too intense and the cute fritter balls a bit dry. GREAT idea, just needs tweaking?
GREAT service as always. Every meal at bloom is amazing, and the former setting was nice too, but the new dining room is quite something! If I were to learn that a chef in a restaurant of whatever city I was in graduated from Conestoga/bloom, I would definitely go there if at all possible. Bravo, bloom students and teachers!
Turbo had nicely charred skin but filet was mushy and bland. Surrounding saffron sauce - beautifully fragrant
Excellent. Saneel (sp?) did an outstanding job supporting students.
This most recent visit was an exception in its total failure to my guest and myself. The butternut squash soup was thick and room temperature but tasted fine. The fish was slightly under cooked (a concern). The crust on the quiche although very delicious was close to twice as thick as service should allow. The final course of dessert was chocolate something resembling the texture of a hockey puck. We were barely able to puncture the chocolate rock with a fork or knife and this item should not have been served. We were told the wrong thing was plated. Our server was so nervous and barely spoke english or if he did, you wouldn't have known, he appeared way out of his league on table service. We barely saw him, he seemed to be hiding in the kitchen all the time. He mixed up our wine orders. He has never been taught how to use a pepper mill and his hands/arms were above our food in doing so. The chef should be spoken too very seriously about his lack of supervision. Our visit was just under $100 for 2 and a total disappointment. Worst experience at Bloom ever. Might skip Year 1 student luncheons in future.
We went to Bloom for an anniversary celebration and they did not disappoint. The food was delicious and wonderfully prepared and plated. It was fun to see hospitality training in action.
We very much enjoyed our dinner at Bloom. We will definitely return. Excellent food and beautiful presentation.
The food was outstanding. Beautifully crafted and unique. The dishes were definitely beyond the usual fair served at most restaurants served in the Waterloo Region. We were treated to the menu of David Chang's Momofuku. The fusion of unconventional foods like kohlrabi, pistachios, mizuna and mushrooms were a delicious surprise. I look forward to many more meals at Bloom and anticipate what the culinary students have to offer.
The service was outstanding and the food was fresh and beautifully presented. Try the Yuca fries for sure!!
