Blind Burro combines traditional American versions of Mexican food items with more traditional Mexican street tacos and the like. The guacamole with sweet potatoes served on plantain chips is simply to die for. The service is excellent and the staff is present without being intrusive. It can be a b it noisy at times, but if you are downtown and want good Mexican food, this is the place to go.
We ate hear with a friend from out of town. Everyone loved their meal. The Baja ceviche was great. I had the shrimp machete and my wife had the seafood enchiladas. My buddy had shrimp tacos.
Visited the location for a 3rd time because I wanted to give them 5 stars. The food is awesome and they have options to help with allergies like mine. Nikki was the best all 3 times, I blame the kichten stag the previous 2 times for mixed up orders. Other wise all 3 visits would’ve been 5 stars from the get go. Thanks for making me see a GREAT side of san diego.
Had lunch here on a Saturday during restaurant week. The restaurant was fairly quiet with a few people, including us, scattered around the bar. The SDRW lunch menu is an amazing value, with regards to both the quantity and quality of food. I had the guacamole and lengua tacos (the bartender was happy to customize the toppings for me- as I prefer a simple cilantro and onion topped taco), and my love had the queso dip and al pastor tacos. Everything was delicious, portions were great, bartender was attentive and friendly. Will definitely return.
Just meh. Fish wasn’t fresh. Margarita was decent but the ambiance and food weren’t great. Now that scar Eye Club is gone I don’t have a reason to return.
I liked the ceviche. Little shrimp and scallops with avocado, nice citrus flavor.
Chips were too thick but also served with crackers.
Pork tacos lacked flavor and the poblano rice was a bit dry.
But churros were tasty dipped in the anglaise.
Maybe go back again and try different tacos and different sides.
Food was just ok. Place was cool and service was great!
Menu selections were quite different fro the usual Mexican fare. This was uneven and sometimes missed the mark. The street corn was recommended as a special treat. It was served at a cool temperature and was closer to cream corn with cheese. Terrific salsa and attentive service brought up the rating, as did the churros.
First time here, wanted to try something new, went late afternoon, had shrimp tacos, they were good, better than average.
Food is always good but service is spotty.
Extra long quesadilla is just that! Delicious tortilla - definitely not out of a package. Didn’t care to guava margarita. Would go back again.
Great setting near Petco Park with great food, drinks and the service is excellent.
It’s was a fun super delicious spot! Loved it!
Great margaritas and food. We enjoyed it!
Our server, Gabby was great. Had the Lobster Tacos and they did not disappoint! Fun atmosphere.
Waitress was so sweet and attentive
It was my 21st Birthday, had a group of friends come out to San deigo to have dinner. The food was amazing but the service was terrible. Everyone at the table felt the girl that was our server was curt and rude. Yes me might just be young girls but we are also potentially returning customers. Our server didn’t make us feel that way. The manager had to help us check out at the end because she kept dodging our table. A number of girls at the table including my self are servers at nice and busy restaurants. We understand everything that factors in to being a server and how hard and how easy it can be. Dry humor and snide comments aren’t always the way to go!
1st time here, made a reservation and loved the cozy location that was waiting for us when we arrived, food was awesome, maybe a little pricey, but really delicious, look forward to coming back!
Really good food and service. I would go back and recommend it to anyone
The food here was amazing! We were visiting the city and looking for some good mexican and were not disappointed. We ubered so no idea about parking. Getting seated wasn’t too bad although we had to change tables since we needed a high chair. The waiters were friendly and helpful (high chair incident aside - we had to ask to be moved), and the food took about 10-15 minutes longer than I would have expected, but it was soo worth the wait once it arrived that all the other things faded away fast. Would go again! If you’re going for a date and the weather is good, consider sitting outside, inside was too noisy for easy conversation.
We made a reservation and were seated in a table by the window, a few minutes later the manager came over and told us the table was meant to be attached to a large party and he’d need to move us. I was a bit caught off guard and this normally would kinda put a damper on someone’s dinner possibly but as we got up to move the manager was so nice, so apologetic sent us complimentary appetizers, checked on us a few times and we had a great waitress who was very accommodating They made it all worth the while and very enjoyable. The food was excellent and so were the drinks
Our server was really sweet and nice, but the manager with black facial hair on the floor has a terrible customer service approach and attitude. He never seems too happy to be working, extremely unpleasant. We use to love going to this place, but now not so much.
Horrible customer service. Took my family there while visiting San Diego. My shrimp tacos were tasty although salty. My sons both ordered the chicken enchiladas and the sauce tasted sweet. The waitress couldn’t be bothered explaining the menu even though it was taco Tuesday with certain specials available.
Disappointing after seeing this place listed in lots of books as a popular local favorite. Went before ballgame for happy hour and dinner for 6. Happy hour tacos for $4.50 were tipoff and terrible. Petco's Ballpark Tuesday Tacos for 2.50 were fabulous by comparison and best fish tacos ever. Entrees ok but overpriced and nothing special, tried burrito and salmon tacos and chicken wings. Best thing was convenient to Petco. Guess they figure they have captive clientele.
So good we went back both days we were in San Diego!! The Lobster tacos are yummy, but the street corn stole the show! I will dream about it for years.
Food was good. Service was ok. A bit arrogant. Waitress kept over talking my husband when we had questions or comments. Short rib tacos were great!
Watched World Cup semi final. Bartender was great. Awesome food, great drinks. Highly recommend.
Mmm like the location. The food left way more to be desired.
I specifically made my reservation because it was a 1,000 point reservation. The restaurant changed my reservation without my permission to a time that awarded less points, and I was only awarded 500 points. Totally unprofessional and shady. I didn’t know my reservation had been changed to the time offering lower points until after I was done dining. If I had known this, I would’ve never given them my business. I will never be back to this restaurant. There are much better restaurants in Gas Lamp that actually run their OpenTable platform like it’s supposed to be run.
This place was great for a family dinner. The Mexican food was delicious and there was even a hot dog on the kids menu for those of us not interested in Mexican dining. The staff were super attentive and helpful. Overall awesome.
Fodors was correct these is a great place for a family.
Short rib tacos were amazing! All the food was delicious. We also ate the Ahi Tuna tacos and power bowl with skirt steak. Service was great! We went during a Padres game on a Saturday night with our two young kids. It was more of a bar atmosphere but we had a very comfy booth that was perfect for our family. They had kids menus and crayons to entertain them and got their food out fast. The kids loved their tacos too.
My husband and I truly enjoy the food and that is why we eat there when in San Diego.
The Blind Burro has a lively bar atmosphere, creative Mexican cuisine and great table service. We had the carne asada tacos and the grilled swordfish (catch of the day) tacos. The two tacos are fully-stuffed street tacos served with your choice of a side. Along with an appetizer it was plenty of food. The churros were to die for. Everything had a twist on the authentic style, a very good upgrade. Ideal for pre- or post-game dining as Petco Park is close at hand.
I went here to have a family get together with family visiting from out of town since we were all staying in the Gaslamp. Figured we're in san Diego so Mexican will always be a good option. Found this place via browsing recommendations from a few websites saying it was a good choice if you're in the Gaslamp looking for Mexican dining (Yelp, Chowhound). Turned out to be a great place to go. The food was quite good - I had coffee-blackened salmon tacos which were very tasty, along with a shared nachos with a topping of al pastor pork - killer, and a huge portion. I didn't try the margaritas or sangria, but others at the table said they were a hit. Almost everywhere in San Diego has a good craft beer menu, so I won't go into detail on that one. Very close to the ballpark, too. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone in the Gaslamp and not looking to travel too far. I'm sure there are excellent options if you're willing to travel further afield. But in the Gaslamp, this one might be close to the top.
Went before a Tuesday night Padres game. Happy Hour deals was a deal- delicious cheese crisp, fish and carnitas tacos, great beer and wine.
Food was excellent!
The food was just ok. The chips that came with the endless chips and salsa were too thick and not crispy.
We came for a birthday which was not acknowledged and the waitess acted as though we were a nuisance.
Very nice place. Loved the decor and lights on the bars. Yes, more than one bar area...I think there are three. Despite being a bar, there were many families there on the late afternoon time we were. Plenty of seating/tables not at the bar. We were there with our 12 year old and she loved it as well. The food was great (the burrito was HUGE and tasty). Lively place and location downtown. Lots of TVs for sports watching as well if that is what you like. We would return.
Love the Mexican street corn. The bowls are fantastic too.
