Watched World Cup semi final. Bartender was great. Awesome food, great drinks. Highly recommend.
Mmm like the location. The food left way more to be desired.
I specifically made my reservation because it was a 1,000 point reservation. The restaurant changed my reservation without my permission to a time that awarded less points, and I was only awarded 500 points. Totally unprofessional and shady. I didn’t know my reservation had been changed to the time offering lower points until after I was done dining. If I had known this, I would’ve never given them my business. I will never be back to this restaurant. There are much better restaurants in Gas Lamp that actually run their OpenTable platform like it’s supposed to be run.
This place was great for a family dinner. The Mexican food was delicious and there was even a hot dog on the kids menu for those of us not interested in Mexican dining. The staff were super attentive and helpful. Overall awesome.
Fodors was correct these is a great place for a family.
Short rib tacos were amazing! All the food was delicious. We also ate the Ahi Tuna tacos and power bowl with skirt steak. Service was great! We went during a Padres game on a Saturday night with our two young kids. It was more of a bar atmosphere but we had a very comfy booth that was perfect for our family. They had kids menus and crayons to entertain them and got their food out fast. The kids loved their tacos too.
My husband and I truly enjoy the food and that is why we eat there when in San Diego.
The Blind Burro has a lively bar atmosphere, creative Mexican cuisine and great table service. We had the carne asada tacos and the grilled swordfish (catch of the day) tacos. The two tacos are fully-stuffed street tacos served with your choice of a side. Along with an appetizer it was plenty of food. The churros were to die for. Everything had a twist on the authentic style, a very good upgrade. Ideal for pre- or post-game dining as Petco Park is close at hand.
I went here to have a family get together with family visiting from out of town since we were all staying in the Gaslamp. Figured we're in san Diego so Mexican will always be a good option. Found this place via browsing recommendations from a few websites saying it was a good choice if you're in the Gaslamp looking for Mexican dining (Yelp, Chowhound). Turned out to be a great place to go. The food was quite good - I had coffee-blackened salmon tacos which were very tasty, along with a shared nachos with a topping of al pastor pork - killer, and a huge portion. I didn't try the margaritas or sangria, but others at the table said they were a hit. Almost everywhere in San Diego has a good craft beer menu, so I won't go into detail on that one. Very close to the ballpark, too. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone in the Gaslamp and not looking to travel too far. I'm sure there are excellent options if you're willing to travel further afield. But in the Gaslamp, this one might be close to the top.
Went before a Tuesday night Padres game. Happy Hour deals was a deal- delicious cheese crisp, fish and carnitas tacos, great beer and wine.
Food was excellent!
The food was just ok. The chips that came with the endless chips and salsa were too thick and not crispy.
We came for a birthday which was not acknowledged and the waitess acted as though we were a nuisance.
Very nice place. Loved the decor and lights on the bars. Yes, more than one bar area...I think there are three. Despite being a bar, there were many families there on the late afternoon time we were. Plenty of seating/tables not at the bar. We were there with our 12 year old and she loved it as well. The food was great (the burrito was HUGE and tasty). Lively place and location downtown. Lots of TVs for sports watching as well if that is what you like. We would return.
Love the Mexican street corn. The bowls are fantastic too.
Food was cold and a bit overpriced
I was very disappointed with our experience at the Blind Burro since it was a special occasion and we had made group reservations. The server was very rude and demeaning to our group. After we ordered our food we asked for them to box it up and we took it home because the staff was so unwelcoming. We will not be back.
Went here with colleagues on a business trip and the tacos were fantastic. The restaurant was not busy but the service was very slow and barely came by to check on our table and forgot to bring drinks that were ordered. Employees seemed to care more about socializing with each other than working. So while the food was fantastic - be wary of the slack service!
Pleasant meal. Food was ok but not outstanding. Friendly staff and good service
I never leave reviews, actually this is my first. The service was incredibly poor. The waiter and waitresses seemed annoyed with any question and everything took forever. I had read on the reviews that the service was bad and want to confirm that it is. If the staff was a bit friendlier and attentive then it could be a great place to have a margarita and some food.
Service was spotty at best. Food was ok. Mimosa bar was he highlight when you could get the server’s attention. Won’t return with so many other choices downtown
We arrived at 6:30 Friday night. One day prior to Cinco de Mayo. NOT busy. Service, while pleasant was SLOW. Margarita 90%ice with good flavor. Dinner took over 45 min to arrive (enchiladas). Waitress had to press the cooks for it. Food arrive COLD. When asked to reheat, they said they would comp the entire meal. Reheating was not an option and had to entirely remake the meal. We couldn’t stay another 45 minutes. They were very quick to comp the meal so seems like something is going on in the kitchen and they knew it was an issue. They will not survive Cinco de Mayo with that kind of service
Our compliments to the waiter. We had lunch on Tuesday with a reservation. Everyone loved the food and the nice atmosphere. Very well done!
A really great Mexican meal!
Slow service. It was a little hard because a Padres game was starting soon so as soon as the restaurant filled up we lost our server. I’ve been there before and it wasn’t too bad.
Everything is fantastic, but the guacamole especial is my favorite!
Food was great and this was a great atmosphere for a business lunch.
Very lousy service, terrible service recovery and just awful experience. The saving grace was the food...maybe try takeout instead.
Very loud but the food was delicious! A little pricey for what you get, but again everything was tasty so it was well worth it! Also it wasn’t as crazy busy as other places would have been, and for that we are very appreciative.
Friendly staff and great service. Drinks and food brought immediately.
The food was amazing per usual. The drinks were pretty weak. Our server never brought us any water and must have left at some point during our meal. Another individual stepped in and seemed extremely rushed as she ran around from table to table.
Awesome service and great food.
This is actually the second time that I am writing a review for this restaurant. It's funny because in my last review I stated: "Next time we're in SD I'm going to return to try something else on the menu."
We decided to a take a train from LA for a day trip to visit the San Diego Zoo. Although I said it would be good to get back to the Blind Burro I considered a lot of different places based on their proximity to the Santa Fe Depot. After a long day at the zoo and discussing trying other restaurants we decided that we had to come back. Since we left San Diego our last time we had both said how good the food was. I have had some good food from great restaurants with some memorable service etc. and this place is just good. We were hungry because we saved our appetites for this meal considering we only ate early in the morning.
To start, we had chips and salsa and they hit the spot. As stated in my last review my intention was to try something else if I got back to the Blind Burro and so I did. I decided to order the Chicken Tinga Torta with street corn off the cob as my side. I was satisfied the first time I ate here and upon returning I can say that my opinion of the restaurant stills stands based on my first review. My girlfriend had the Power Bowl with chicken and she enjoyed it. She was describing how she would like to make it at home and that's when you know something is good because she doesn't necessarily enjoy cooking.
Long story short, I suggest that you try this place if you come out to San Diego for something casual, flavorful with a good vibe and service.
They had our table ready to go and the waitress was very attentive
Bland, flavorless food. A disappointment. Surprising that it is rated 4.5 stars on Open Table.
Amazing service with very friendly front entry staff who welcome you even if you show up 10 minutes before closing. They are nice and not fake. They made me feel like they actually cared about getting my food done correctly. They definitely are kind genuine and real.
The food was tasty, healthy, as well as unhealthy options. Think of burgers in a taco place.
I went here for a business meal. It was very nice. The server was very nice and took my allergy concern very seriously. She was knowledgeable about the menu and answered all the questions my associate and I asked. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
Nice place, appetizer and dessert was really good. Service was ok. I would go for drinks and hangout but not for food so much.
Food was awesome! Def will be visiting again. We went for restaurant week menu and it did not disappoint well worth the money.
Friendly service, yummy food!
For girl's night last week I decided to pick a restaurant from the SD Restaurant Week menu. I love Mexican food and haven't been downtown in a while so I chose Blind Burro. The friends I was with said that I had chosen well; they've been here before and really like it. After my experience, you have another fan! Everything we ate was delicious. The Ceviche especially was unique and delicious.
The Restaurant Week menu items were plentiful and yummy. We purchased two meals from that menu, in addition to your salsa sampler, and had way more food than we could eat. I was still thinking of it the next day though and wish we would have brought the leftovers home! I will be back soon and also be introducing others to your establishment.
