Bleuwater at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas Ratings and Reviews
Settled at a Table not set up for dinner for 4. Place setting for 2. Host did not notice. Server also did not notice. Had to ask for place setting for 2 when our meal was brought to table. Server kept coming to pick up our dinner plates before we had finished our meal. Felt rushed. We were there celebrating our wedding anniversary. The experience was disappointing.
We dined at the restaurant for my wife's birthday. They created a memorable dining experience for her. The service was excellent and the food was great. We dined outdoors at the fire pit table, which created a romantic ambiance. I preordered a personal birthday cake for her, which ended the night with a bang.
We chose this restaurant because we stayed at the ritz. We looked forward to sitting outside at a fire pit listening to live music. We figured The setting would make u for the food. Unfortunately it outed the minute we got there so we sat inside. The menu is small, the portions are small and the prices are high. I ordered grilled shrimp and received about 6 small ones for over $30. It did not come with any sides. The server, the hostess and manager couldn't be more accommodating. If we had dined outside I think we would have overlooked the average food. Great setting but average food.
We stayed at the Ritz Carlton and the Concierge highly recommended Bleuwater. I would not recommend this restaurant. The food was not good......too salty, cold and dry. We sent back most items, which we have never done in our lives! When I say too salty, I mean like someone accidentally dumped an entire container of Morton's salt. The fish of the day was dry and had no taste. My steak was cooked to perfection, but cold and mostly fat. The sides were ice cold when they arrived 5 minutes after the entrees arrived. The staff was very friendly. The music was too loud and you could not carry a conversation.
We did find the other restaurants to be delicious on the property.
Good restaurant. Especially if you are staying at the Ritz Carlton or Ritz club. Service was slower than any of the other restaurants on the property, but the atmosphere was cool.
We would definitely return. We are a family of 5 with very different tastes and everyone found something they liked on the menu.
I would recommend requesting a table outside.
We spent a week in St. Thomas from Christmas Eve until New Year's Eve. Of the many restaurants we visited Bleuwater was the worst. We were originally seated at the far end "for the view" which I am sure is beautiful during the day but one could see nothing at night and the wind there was bothersome. This area was nearer to the casual bar a few hundred yards away. The music from that bar was typical Caribbean steel band fare and it completely overpowered the live classical guitarist who was playing for the diners in our area. After requesting a table nearer the guitarist and less exposed from the wind we were more comfortable but the waitstaff was notably disinterested and poorly trained. They did, however, complement the food which lacked creativity and even with the simplest dish, grilled mahi, was dry and overdone. A much finer dining experience in that area can be had at the Sunset Grille and certainly better prepared fish at the very casual and funky "Fish Tails" in Red Hook. Don't waste your time or money at the Bleuwater, the worst experience we've ever had at a Ritz.
The restaurant was absolutely beautiful. We had choices to sit outside by the water or inside with the a/c. The service was great and the waiter was very attentive. Our food came out amazing and promptly. I would definitely recommend this place to friends. Next time I'm in St Thomas I will be sure to eat there again.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner. It was buffet style. There was at least 200 people in the restaurant and ONE turkey carving station, that made no sense by the time you got your turkey everything else on your plate was cold. The line was 25 deep and 20 min wait. The rest of the buffet was very well done they had cold apps and beautiful desserts. I know things are expensive at the Ritz but $125 per person for a buffet was very excessive in my opinion. It did not include any drinks so add on a couple of cocktails or a bottle of wine and you have a $700 Thanksgiving dinner for 4. Shame on me for not checking the price when I made the reservation. In my opinion it was definitely NOT worth the price!!! Many other options off property.
The experience was terrible and not indicative of the typical Ritz experience. The guard at the gate barely let our taxi in because she said that the Bluewater closed at 11 and didn't take reservations for breakfast. When we got to the restaurant the hostess/waitress told me that they were ready to close and tried to encourage me to go to another restaurant on the property, and then again argued with me that Bluewater did not take reservations for breakfast and that I must be mistaken. She did let us in and the food was mediocre at best (again, not your typical Ritz experience) and I even had to ask for a glass to get juice from the buffet. The entire attitude of the place was as if they were doing us a favor. Never would go back nor would I ever recommend it to anyone. The Marriott is a much better value (the Sunday breakfast/brunch buffet) and far superior in quality and variety. What a disappointment from a traditionally superior chain.
