You don't need an ocean view at Blue Boheme! The ambience is so charming and country French. You feel like you are in Europe and the village feel of Kensington supports that.
The food and service have been excellent all 3 times I've been there.

Almost everything was perfect except for two of their specialties. Their basil martini was too sweet. Their French onion soup had too much melted cheese.

We had opera tix and told the waiter we needed to leave at 6:30. He lost track of the time so we had to take the dessert that came with our meals with us. The gingerbread dessert was burned, dry and just terrible -- it got tossed out after one bite. The beef bourguignon was pretty fatty, little actual meat. My friend had the salmon and just loved it. Part of the issue might have been that folks line up outside the restaurant to get in right at 5 PM. So, the kitchen probably gets slammed with orders all at the same time and it might affect how well they can prepare the meals ordered. I liked the restaurant and will go back to see if things are just a tad better next time.

Went to Bleu Boheme on a date night with my wife last Wednesday. The decor and ambiance are great, very romantic. However, the lighting was a little low, which made it difficult to read the laminated menu. The menu is diverse, which is great. We ordered the foie gras to share as an appetizer, then, I ordered the mushroom raviolis and my wife ordered the trout after being recommended by the waitress.

I thought some of the food did not make sense, such as the trout served with french fries. The trout was dry as well.
The mushroom raviolis' sauce was a little too loose, I could not coat the raviolis with it.

On a good note, the foie gras was very good, as well as the Pinot Noir.

The food is fabulous. Enough said there.

The service was spotty. On several occasions our server couldn’t remember who ordered what. I tipped almost 40% and thought our server might say a personal ‘thank you’ to me. Nothing.

Great atmosphere and menu. Just fails at execution. Steak tartare should not be made ahead and should be seasoned (if you aren't going to provide accoutrements for the diner to do so him/herself). The onion soup, for all it's hefty price, was just thin, lacking any depth of flavor. Try making a broth next time. A real one made with bones you've roasted.

I've been here several times before and while this experience was worse, I'm afraid they have all had the same theme. Shame they can't elevate the food to the ambiance. Or the prices.

We were quite late for our reservation due to events outside our control, but were welcomed and made to feel wanted and cared for. The trout, the lobster crepe, onion soup and duck were all absolutely wonderful. Our server was warm, but not intrusive, and quite knowledgeable . It was a lovely evening after a very busy day! Thank you!

I loved the food and service! Unfortunately, the restaurant was way too loud. We had a lot of trouble hearing each other. We would have stayed for dessert, but we wanted to be able to enjoy some conversation too. So we left to go somewhere quieter to enjoy dessert and coffee.

The service was excellent the atmosphere was charming and cozy. Unfortunately the food, primarily the recipes, was just not successful. My musssels were prepared with bacon in the sauce so the bacon was limp and tasteless. We shared escargot dish that featured mushrooms and a non traditional sauce that was very so so. One friend had a New York steak he just said it wasn't good. I didn't try it. Other friend complains that the beef bourguignon was too fatty though I thought it was tasty. The fourth person had another non-traditional mussels dish that she liked. We shared the flourless chocolate cake which was so so and did not have chocolate intensity that I have enjoyed in this dish and other places.
I would repeat that the wait staff was excellent and the atmosphere was very pleasing. I would consider trying it another time with it getting different food but my expectations are not that great. And it's not inxpensive.

The food is consistently good. They have a creative menu without being weird. Lots of vine choices. The service was good, as usual. The only drawback is that the main room of the restaurant is too loud for easy conversation. Recommend the area off the wine bar for seating.

Wife & I wanted to try a different San Diego neighborhood venue to celebrate our Anniversary. We are from NoCal and certainly could have opted to celebrate closer to home (i.e. SF); but, chose to play a little golf and explore more of SD as our daughter graduated from UCSD. We were very pleased with our choice to dine at Bleu Boheme. We were in Paris 2 yrs. ago and our Escargot, Salade Maison duck confit, and Beef Bourguignon selections were on-point. The wine list was extensive enough for our consideration. The ambiance and service was just right. We look forward to another opportunity to visit in the future.

I had the scallops they were quite good, my guests had some sort of beef dish which looked good also. We had a table in back so it was not as noisy as on previous visits. One of the better restaurants that we have been to lately.

Anniversaire suberbe. Just sublime! Went there for our anniversary and were treated like old friends. Excellent food, wonderful atmosphere, but not too formal, terrific service. I don't know what else you could ask for in a restaurant. We have fallen in love with the place.

I did some research online and the restaurant got great reviews and I wanted a place that was dimly lit. It didn't disappoint as far as ambience but the food wasn't great and it took forever. We had French onion soup, scallops, and mussels and they were all lackluster. I wouldn't eat there again but would go to the bar for a drink. I gave a three overall because the server was nice and the bar was cozy.

Went for restaurant week. Menu allowed one appetizer, one entree and a dessert. A few items were available for $6 more. Anyhow, the quality was very good. Portions were on the smaller side but that's okay as this is rich food. Service was very good. Overall dinner was very good and I'll return. Parking is challenging.

We went to Blue Boheme for Restaurant Week. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and it definitely didn't disappoint. The restaurant is very romantic and authentic. The tables are farmhouse style and make you feel like you are in France. The creme brûlée was amazing, definitely worth the splurge. It's a little pricey so I would be less inclined to return, but overall a spot to definitely check out.

We absolutely love Bleu Boheme, but we found ourselves there during Restaurant Week and felt mildly disappointed with the overall quality of the food this visit. It was quite clear our food sat for a while before being brought to our table (cold, overcooked steak), and we felt rushed having to order everything up front.

We will absolutely be back, but next time maybe keep the menu selection smaller for restaurant week to ensure quality. Also, it would have been nice if we were told of a limited menu when making the reservation online.

I went here for restaurant week with friends and this place did not disappoint. We 3 have heard about Bleu Boheme for some time now and thought about going, but just never made the trip to try it out, until restaurant week! We made reservations using Open Table the day of in the morning with time slots still available. We arrived and our hostess got us seated promptly with the restaurant week menu, dinner course for $40. The menu had tasty options and I went with the onion soup gratinée, the pork ribeye with a potato purée and braised red cabbage and for dessert, crème brûlée - I ate it all!

This is our favorite French restaurant in San Diego and restaurant week did not disappoint! I started with the mussels, they were so delicious I had to make myself stop using my bread to soak up the broth. We also tried the tart which was also super tasty! For our entrees we got the beef Bourgogne and the duck confit. Both were cooked to perfection. Our only complaint is the beans with the duck were just ok, we would have liked other sides. The desserts were great as well. I got the gingerbread and my date got the goat cheese cheesecake!

We attended as part of SD Restaurant Week. The restaurant called to confirm my reservation, which was a nice touch, and had a table ready upon our arrival.

Bleu Boheme's Restaurant Week menu offered a lot more choices than the three typically seen at other restaurant. That made choosing difficult.

For appetizers, we had the Steak Tartare and the Foie Gras au Torchon. Both were excellent. The steak was meltingly tender, with a hearty taste of the house-smoking it had received. It was served with housemade potato chips, whose saltiness provided a wonderful contrast to the meat. The Foie Gras was also delicious, and was served with hot, toasted brioche, a tiny Arugula salad, and housemade blueberry preserves. Smooth, rich and very tasty!

For our main course, we had the Boeuf Bourguignon (made with beef cheeks) and the Entrecote du Porc. Both were ample and hearty, and bursting with flavor.

As desserts, we had the housemade cheesecake (with Marscapone and Goat cheese) and the Brioche bread pudding. We couldn't finish either, despite being exceptionally good. We were that full!

The service could NOT have been better. Everyone was polite and attentive without being intrusive. They must have been keeping a watchful eye over the dining room, as they appeared always at just the right time. Drinks were refilled without the need to ask, etc.

The ambiance at Bleu Boheme is also noteworthy. They strive for a cozy French bistro vibe, and they deliver on that feeling. Our table was lit with a beautiful candle, as are other tables. There are beautiful flower arrangements and candelabras as well. The floor is concrete, which is perfect for the look and feel of the joint, but when the restaurant is full, it's not the most-quiet. (This is nice if you're having a private or intimate conversation - there's no way one could be overheard)

All in all - Bleu Boheme is a gem. I'll definitely be back again!
