BLD IS NOW ACCEPTING RESERVATIONS FOR PARTIES OF FIVE OR MORE DURING BRUNCH.
Within its sunny space BLD (breakfast, lunch, dinner) is both a popular neighborhood spot as well as a great destination restaurant. This latest venture of husband and wife team Neal and Amy Knoll Fraser with partner Richard Drapkin, is another successful collaboration of the talented team from Grace Restaurant just down the street. At BLD diners can remain comfortable all day long in a friendly, upscale café atmosphere. The enticing space and the service are approachable from the moment the doors open early in the morning until they finally close late at night. BLD has become the go-to spot for all day gourmet comfort food. House-made pastries, salads, sandwiches, and more feature seasonal ingredients. The all-day charcuterie and artisanal cheese section may just be LA’s answer to the ultimate bar food.

BLD Ratings and Reviews
They messed up my order twice and the eggs benedict was not good. They overcooked my poached egg and the english muffin was awful. It took the kitchen awhile to fix my order and everybody at my table already finished eating by the time my correct order came.
I'm crying while I write this. BLD will be closing on Jan. 31st. 2017. You will be missed!
The food as usual was a amazing. I had the warm olives and Mac n cheese to start, along with a dirty martinI. I had the pork chop for my main and my friend had the salmon. Both were superbly prepared.
For dessert, I "sweet talked" them into making us some 'Adult Milkshakes ' for old times sake, and they were happy to oblige.
I don't know why they are closing (the restaurant business is tough), but I wish they weren't. I will be there on the 31st for the 'Brunchathon'...you should too!
Thank you BLD for getting it right.
THE REAL RAY COMBS...
I arranged a brunch to celebrate my birthday here. The food was terrible to mediocre at best. I've never had a hollandaise sauce so bland and watery. Even the biscuits were bland. When we told the server she apologized and said she would let the chef know but did nothing to really make up for it. The other items my friends ordered were edible but by far nothing special. It was a complete let down, especially considering I had heard good things. I would never recommend this place.
Unfortunately BLD has lost some of its excellence. On this visit the service was lackadaisical at best. It took quite a while to get service, they didn't bring a wine list, they rarely checked on our table (restaurant was half empty), and the food was a bit cold when it arrived. In addition despite there being plenty of room in the restaurant we were seated next to a huge party that were very loud. Two out of three plates were enjoyable but all lacked the level of flavor we're used to from the "old" BLD.
Came in for dinner for the first time after many brunches at BLD. The food is pretty tasty (albeit a bit pricey for what it is), but the service was terrible. Server forgot to input my entree and even after my friend got her food, never came by to check on us. It wasn't until about 10 minutes later when the manager saw us looking around did he come over and ask how we were, and I had to say I was still waiting on my food. While the entree came up quickly (brought to us by a food runner, not our server), I never received an apology, and the server still didn't come by until we flagged her down for the bill and a box. And after my water glass stayed empty for way too long, I had to drink my friend's water. I worked as a server for 10+ years so I'm pretty damn forgiving, but this was bad, really bad, on all fronts.
I've gone to BLD so many times for lunch and brunch and have to say that the last couple of times it seems to not be as good as it once was. Sorry to see a once good restaurant start to slide. Eggs were not prepared properly and had to be sent back and 3 out of 4 in our party were disappointed in our meal. Second time in a row that this has happened.
This was our 4th or 5th time back - the Gilt City deal is a steal. By now, we know the drill: crab cakes, cauliflower, short rib, and last, the best dessert in LA: donuts with spicy chocolate dipping sauce. Pro tip: hit up ICDC next door on your way out for a few extra donuts to go - for breakfast, y'know?
Wow! Talk about a great pancake! I don't even like pancakes but I LOVED their special blueberry/ricotta recipe.
Anyway, delicious pancake starter to share aside, the dishes were absolutely delicious. Their brunch menu was so hard to choose from because everything looked so good! The three bean huevos rancheros were phenomenal and the beans were very flavorful. The music was a little loud for my taste, but was easily overlooked once our food came. A tad pricey for brunch but the ingredients were all fresh and prepared to order, so well worth it.
Food looked much better than it tasted, nothing at all to write home about. There was even a moment when we were worried we walked into the wrong place because the food didn't seem to match the reviews we read before selecting the place. We had the crabcakes and lobster roll sandwiches. Well, the French fries were good, but how hard is that. :/
I'd been here years before and it was very good. This time, the food was just ok. The server seemed quite inexperienced. There were only two other small parties (at 6pm) yet they were out of the main course my partner requested ... and they didn't tell us at the outset.). All in all, it was an ok evening but I was disappointed since it was better in the past.
A completely satisfying lunch experience with old friends ! We were seated immediately for our 1:00pm reservation; service was efficient and friendly; food was an excellent value in quantity & quality. In fact the chicken club sandwich, ordered by three of the five of us, was so so ample that boxes were taken home! Yum! Great french fries too!
I chose BLD for a night out with friends because they have a few vegan menu options. I was excited because it's hard to find a restaurant that can accommodate my special diet and satisfy my non-vegan friends. However, the vegan burger I ordered was super bland and disappointing. I've had much better vegan burgers elsewhere. The service and ambiance was nice though.
I usually like BLD and especially the salad nicoise. However, they were out of that when I went. Disappointing, but OK... I moved on. I ordered a burger which came too rare. These things happen. Sent it back to get cooked more and it took FOREVER for it to come. The place was not busy and the service was not great. Plus it was one of the worst burgers I ever had. Not sure I will return.
We went to BLD to make use of a Gilt City certificate. It had been a while since our last visit there and I was happy to see that the restaurant has maintained its quality. The food was excellent & our server was very friendly & attentive. Overall, we were very pleased with our meal.
Went for dinner. Seemed like there was only 1 server for the entire restaurant. The place wasn't very crowded but it was busy enough that we had to keep flagging down our server for stuff. Charcuterie plate was bigger than expected, but only had 1 meat with 2 cheeses. The prosciutto was cut thick so it seemed quite fatty.
3rd time back to BLD, and by now we know the drill. The short rib is great, as are the crab cakes. The burger and lobster roll are not so great. The donuts-with-hot-cocoa dessert is perhaps the best dessert in LA - we dont get crazy over desserts, but holy cow, that dessert by itself makes the whole dinner worthwhile. Order it ASAP - dont wait till the end of the main courses - just in case they run out. (We lucked out and got the last 3 orders available.)
The Gilt City deal, which comes up now and then, makes BLD an absolute steal - the included bottle of house red (a Garnacha, on the menu for $44) is quite good.
Service is very pleasant and unpretentious. We'll be back.
Overall the food was well made and the drinks were good. My only issue with the restaurant is the service. We were a party of 8 that were placed in a corner table. The placement of our table wasn't an issue - it was actually very cute and out of the way. We received water, our drinks, and placed our food orders fairly quickly; but after that the server forgot about us. We waited for over 15 min to get water refills, and that was only after I called out a male staff member and asked him for help. In total the server checked in on us only 2 times (when she took our drink order, and we we waved her down for the check) even though the restaurant was fairly empty.
Granted, there were about 3 other employees that day but they were all just hanging out and talking. I only saw our server actually taking orders.
I'm not sure if this was a rare occasion or if it's the norm, but all I can say is that the service leaves a lot to be desired. As a result, I only left a 15% tip on the $200+ check - had the service been better I would have left my standard 22% tip given that we were such a large party.
