It's closed now. Go get the famous pancakes at Redbird
Looking for a great hamburger. Unfortunately did not find one. Beef was salty. Vegan burger replacement was tasty but mushy. We'll really miss the chocolate sorbet from ICDC!
They messed up my order twice and the eggs benedict was not good. They overcooked my poached egg and the english muffin was awful. It took the kitchen awhile to fix my order and everybody at my table already finished eating by the time my correct order came.
I'm crying while I write this. BLD will be closing on Jan. 31st. 2017. You will be missed!
The food as usual was a amazing. I had the warm olives and Mac n cheese to start, along with a dirty martinI. I had the pork chop for my main and my friend had the salmon. Both were superbly prepared.
For dessert, I "sweet talked" them into making us some 'Adult Milkshakes ' for old times sake, and they were happy to oblige.
I don't know why they are closing (the restaurant business is tough), but I wish they weren't. I will be there on the 31st for the 'Brunchathon'...you should too!
Thank you BLD for getting it right.
THE REAL RAY COMBS...
I adore BLD and I cannot believe that it is closing at the end of this month. This is a huge loss for the west side dining community. Why does this happen so frequently in LA? Please convince the owners to come back!!
Always love the food here but the service is usually a little lackluster. No hustle or quick greeting once seated. It's happened more than once but not bad enough that I'd stop going.
I arranged a brunch to celebrate my birthday here. The food was terrible to mediocre at best. I've never had a hollandaise sauce so bland and watery. Even the biscuits were bland. When we told the server she apologized and said she would let the chef know but did nothing to really make up for it. The other items my friends ordered were edible but by far nothing special. It was a complete let down, especially considering I had heard good things. I would never recommend this place.
The atmosphere was OK. The prices seemed a bit high. We did not like the taste of their $18 hamburgers (of the 3 of us , no one ate more than 2 bites). The fries were good, but extremely salty. Won't be going back.
Unfortunately BLD has lost some of its excellence. On this visit the service was lackadaisical at best. It took quite a while to get service, they didn't bring a wine list, they rarely checked on our table (restaurant was half empty), and the food was a bit cold when it arrived. In addition despite there being plenty of room in the restaurant we were seated next to a huge party that were very loud. Two out of three plates were enjoyable but all lacked the level of flavor we're used to from the "old" BLD.
I had obtained a Gilt City certificate for BLD, and needed to make use of it, so we went there for a late-night dinner. Fantastic food and great service.
Other than having a real food temperature issue with dinner (food was served at room temperature )... the quality and taste was amazing... just hoping it was an off night as I would go back in a heartbeat.
Came in for dinner for the first time after many brunches at BLD. The food is pretty tasty (albeit a bit pricey for what it is), but the service was terrible. Server forgot to input my entree and even after my friend got her food, never came by to check on us. It wasn't until about 10 minutes later when the manager saw us looking around did he come over and ask how we were, and I had to say I was still waiting on my food. While the entree came up quickly (brought to us by a food runner, not our server), I never received an apology, and the server still didn't come by until we flagged her down for the bill and a box. And after my water glass stayed empty for way too long, I had to drink my friend's water. I worked as a server for 10+ years so I'm pretty damn forgiving, but this was bad, really bad, on all fronts.
Friends and I went to BLD before a show and we were very pleased. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service was terrific. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Consistently good. The service, the food, the location. I could go on and on...
I always have a great dinner at B L D. I took a friend who is now a regular there as well. The service is attentive, the wine choices are great and the food is absolutely outstanding.
The salmon special was beautifully prepared. I have always had great meals, great service and a great time at b l d. Anwar is a terrific manager.
I've gone to BLD so many times for lunch and brunch and have to say that the last couple of times it seems to not be as good as it once was. Sorry to see a once good restaurant start to slide. Eggs were not prepared properly and had to be sent back and 3 out of 4 in our party were disappointed in our meal. Second time in a row that this has happened.
This was our 4th or 5th time back - the Gilt City deal is a steal. By now, we know the drill: crab cakes, cauliflower, short rib, and last, the best dessert in LA: donuts with spicy chocolate dipping sauce. Pro tip: hit up ICDC next door on your way out for a few extra donuts to go - for breakfast, y'know?
Wow! Talk about a great pancake! I don't even like pancakes but I LOVED their special blueberry/ricotta recipe.
Anyway, delicious pancake starter to share aside, the dishes were absolutely delicious. Their brunch menu was so hard to choose from because everything looked so good! The three bean huevos rancheros were phenomenal and the beans were very flavorful. The music was a little loud for my taste, but was easily overlooked once our food came. A tad pricey for brunch but the ingredients were all fresh and prepared to order, so well worth it.
Went here for a date and love it. The ambien was romantic and quiet. The service was excellent. Food quality was good.
Over all the food was great. Here the problem at 11 am on a Sunday they were "sold out" on multiple items on the menu. How does a restaurant on Sunday morning run out of French Toast and donuts?
The short rib and salmon were creatively served and absolutely delicious. I would send anyone there and often meet friends at this friendly, awesome restaurant. Easy to park with valet service.
I have attended BLD many times and I am never disappointed. I wish you had better parking, but I still love the place and your staff...
Food looked much better than it tasted, nothing at all to write home about. There was even a moment when we were worried we walked into the wrong place because the food didn't seem to match the reviews we read before selecting the place. We had the crabcakes and lobster roll sandwiches. Well, the French fries were good, but how hard is that. :/
Brunch is stellar. Pancakes exquisite and also the steak Benedict.
Food and service were very good. The music was too loud.
I'd been here years before and it was very good. This time, the food was just ok. The server seemed quite inexperienced. There were only two other small parties (at 6pm) yet they were out of the main course my partner requested ... and they didn't tell us at the outset.). All in all, it was an ok evening but I was disappointed since it was better in the past.
Great food, great service, good prices. It's easy to park out front with the valet and they validate parking. I c d c next door has great homemade treats.
Great vibe, delicious food, good for groups if make reservation. For brunch, only takes reservations for 5 or more people
Restaurant was empty for a Friday night and the food was fair.
Overall very quiet and uninviting.
A completely satisfying lunch experience with old friends ! We were seated immediately for our 1:00pm reservation; service was efficient and friendly; food was an excellent value in quantity & quality. In fact the chicken club sandwich, ordered by three of the five of us, was so so ample that boxes were taken home! Yum! Great french fries too!
I chose BLD for a night out with friends because they have a few vegan menu options. I was excited because it's hard to find a restaurant that can accommodate my special diet and satisfy my non-vegan friends. However, the vegan burger I ordered was super bland and disappointing. I've had much better vegan burgers elsewhere. The service and ambiance was nice though.
We went to BLD while on vacation in Hollywood. We were there for breakfast, so it was very quiet and lovely. The food was delicious and unique and we bragged all day about the beautiful breakfast we had. I recommended it to everyone I spoke to that day.
I usually like BLD and especially the salad nicoise. However, they were out of that when I went. Disappointing, but OK... I moved on. I ordered a burger which came too rare. These things happen. Sent it back to get cooked more and it took FOREVER for it to come. The place was not busy and the service was not great. Plus it was one of the worst burgers I ever had. Not sure I will return.
Went for dinner. It was fine. I understand breakfasts are good
Food was just bad not going to return.
We went to BLD to make use of a Gilt City certificate. It had been a while since our last visit there and I was happy to see that the restaurant has maintained its quality. The food was excellent & our server was very friendly & attentive. Overall, we were very pleased with our meal.
Went for dinner. Seemed like there was only 1 server for the entire restaurant. The place wasn't very crowded but it was busy enough that we had to keep flagging down our server for stuff. Charcuterie plate was bigger than expected, but only had 1 meat with 2 cheeses. The prosciutto was cut thick so it seemed quite fatty.
3rd time back to BLD, and by now we know the drill. The short rib is great, as are the crab cakes. The burger and lobster roll are not so great. The donuts-with-hot-cocoa dessert is perhaps the best dessert in LA - we dont get crazy over desserts, but holy cow, that dessert by itself makes the whole dinner worthwhile. Order it ASAP - dont wait till the end of the main courses - just in case they run out. (We lucked out and got the last 3 orders available.)
The Gilt City deal, which comes up now and then, makes BLD an absolute steal - the included bottle of house red (a Garnacha, on the menu for $44) is quite good.
Service is very pleasant and unpretentious. We'll be back.
Overall the food was well made and the drinks were good. My only issue with the restaurant is the service. We were a party of 8 that were placed in a corner table. The placement of our table wasn't an issue - it was actually very cute and out of the way. We received water, our drinks, and placed our food orders fairly quickly; but after that the server forgot about us. We waited for over 15 min to get water refills, and that was only after I called out a male staff member and asked him for help. In total the server checked in on us only 2 times (when she took our drink order, and we we waved her down for the check) even though the restaurant was fairly empty.
Granted, there were about 3 other employees that day but they were all just hanging out and talking. I only saw our server actually taking orders.
I'm not sure if this was a rare occasion or if it's the norm, but all I can say is that the service leaves a lot to be desired. As a result, I only left a 15% tip on the $200+ check - had the service been better I would have left my standard 22% tip given that we were such a large party.
