Always a great spot for schnitzel! The sausages and pretzel appetizers were a great start to our meal. The staff is always attentive on every visit and they have a really nice selection of Austrian wines to go with the meal.
Delicious food. Amazing experience. Service was flawless
I like the food. The restaurant has seen better days- I like the decor very much- but the place is not well maintained. The restrooms were dirty and there was no hot water in the restroom I used. The waitress was ‘new’ and was not trained properly by the management. She didn’t know very much about the food or the beers. She forgot an item we ordered- but we didn’t bother with an additional request. She keep bumping into the back of my chair as she walked by- the restaurant was not crowded nor too cramped for this to happen.
Such a wonderful dinner! The food was fresh, delicious and authentic; what else from Kurt? ;)
Will defitnarlwy be coming back
Amazing food, Phenomenal service, and big beers... what more could you want?!?
Simple menu, authentic flavor, classic Austrian fare.
Love going to Blaue Gans but continue to be perplexed by the music choices on weekends. Would love to hear something a little chiller or more authentic to the place over current pop/dance.
In a quick visit to New York, Blaue Gans was great way to spend an easy evening among friends, while dining on delicious and authentic Viennese comfort food. Service was friendly and attentive, the Austrian wines perfect! The table especially enjoyed the traditional schnitzels with cucumber/potato salad...and the delicate apple pastry for dessert. Fun, open & inviting interior.
The bratwurst was tasty. The chicken paprika schnitzel and lingonberry souffle were absolutely delicious. Try the Pear Basil Sipper! It's so refreshing!
The heat didn’t work and it ended up to be a very uncomfortable experience, made worse by the fact that it took a very long time for our dishes to arrive.
Really enjoyed our visit. Would suggest that music volume be lowered a little though.
I had the pork Wiener Schnitzel, cheese spätzle, and a draft Köstritzer.
Just the comfort food I was looking for. Service was friendly and attentive.
Price seemed a bit high, but I'm not a native of Manhattan.
Great place, nice lively atmosphere. Food is lovely, best burger I’ve had in a long time.
We loved it. From the host to the waitress to our first bite of the Viennese sausage and sour croute and trout crepes to our last bite of soufflé , we loved everything!
...been there many times before. Great simple traditional dishes.
The beef goulash and spaetzle was amazing. I am not certain why in an empty restaurant with three other filled tables the host would seat us next to the kitchen? Do they do this to all Open Table reservations? Also, train your wait staff on your wine list. "It's my favorite" does not tell patrons anything about wine.
Particularly good if you’d like some German/Austrian cooking. Casual friendly atmosphere
I live in tribeca and have been going to Blaue Gans now for sometime. I should go even more often as it is consistently excellent, with truly delicious Austrian food - the homemade soft pretzels alone are worth coming for! I frequently bring people from both out of town or uptown here and everyone is always terribly delighted. But also, the design of the restaurant is modern casual but full of art vibes thanks to the incredibly stunning array of vintage museum exhibit posters all around. the bar is gorgeous & proffers well crafted drinks and very good wines (you can have a good chardonnay but think about the Gruner Veltliner for example). All around, it just 'feels good' to be here. That's what makes this place excellent - for either everyday or a special occasion.
the sacher cake was extremely dry and not the dense one I had in Vienna
midcentury modern interior, seasonal german beers on draft, the best weinerschnitzle this side of the atlantic and lou reed posters on the wall—-what’s not to love?
German restaurants are far and few between. This one is not far from the WTC site and is a bit of a longer walk from Wall Street. But it is a beautiful place inside -- nicely designed with period wall posters and light and airy, warm and welcoming. You will see European standards her -- cabbage slaws, schnitzels. Great wine list. Very kind and attentive staff. You'll leave pleased. More people should come here of course and skip and fads and trends endemic in the NYC dining scene, which so often disappoint. This place won't.
Wonderful, authentic Schnitzel in a relaxed atmosphere. The potato cucumber salad is delicious!!
The best schnitzel I have had in the United States since I have returned from Austria in 2016.
While meant to be a simple Austrian Café serving comfort food for lunch and dinner, the Chef owners fine dining experience appear in the attention to small details at the more casual Blaue Gans. The smoked trout crepes (in fact all the crepes) are wonderful.
This is a rock solid always reliable neighborhood joint that is family friendly. Keep up the good work.
Blau Gans is one of my favorite European restaurant in NY! Food is always great, service also and the team is very professional. My favorites from the menu are the pretzel, Cheese spatzle, Jagerschnitzel. Definitely a great spot in Tribeca!
The food was so salty and otherwise tasteless that two of the four did not finish half their dinner. The spaetzle sides were ice cold. A big disappointment all around.
I had been to Blaue Gans several times and was never disappointed. It was my friend's first time there and she enjoyed it very much. There are so few German/Austrian restaurants left and Blaue Gans is one of the best. Excellent food and service.
When we lived nearby, Blaue Gans was one of our go-to spots. We returned after a few years and found it much the same--which to us was a comfort. We've liked the look of the room since it was Le Zinc, and had fun trying to detect changes in the posters covering the walls.
Food: The presentation of the smoked trout crepe has changed, but it was as delicious as ever. My favorite Bibb lettuce salad now has more radishes, and tomatoes ('tis still the season!), but no pumpkin seed oil; it still had plenty of puffed seeds, though. Pork jäger schnitzel and beef sirloin schnitzel suffered slightly from oversalted sauces, but were generally good. The quark spatzle were good as ever, and ameliorated the saltiness. And the Salzburger nockerl was improved (if that's possible) by using lingonberries instead of the huckleberries we remember. Happy to be back!
Excellent restaurant, Viennese flair, food outstanding, very accommodating , I requested a wine that I saw on their other restaurants wine list and they made it happen to serve our fave white wine from steiermark /Auatria, a very heartfelt danke schoen und gruess gott
Food was me
Blaue Ganz is part of the old downtown NYC that is slowly disappearing. It was formerly an art world hang out called Le Zinc. It still has the same decor, floor to ceiling art show posters. The menu is simple, come here to get your schnitzel on. One time we were there and Keith Richards, Patti Hansen and their kids were there celebrating a birthday. Keith stood up at one point and proceeded to fall flat on his face, no one at his table batted an eye.
Love this place. The dishes are always beautifully prepared and served.
Blau Gans is consistent with food and service for decades now. From great fish to schnitzel, & spatzle, Austrian fare the food is always on point. The service seems to care about where they work, whether it is the food or a good beer or wine paring
A perfect birthday dinner for our Austrian Au pair!
I love this Blaue Gans. Every time I visit NYC, I make sure I get to stop by. The Jagerschnitzel is amazing!
Excellent Viennese food... nicely presented and delicious! Love this place!
Nice neighborhood restaurant, unfortunately they have replaced the veal Schnitzel with a Pork Schnitzel and also no longer have the Kaiserschmarn dessert.
Great space, great food and wine! Serve staff is friendly and make great recommendations. Great for a big loud group like ours. Will definitely come back!
We were on a trip to NYC. Saw them on the Open Table listing and they sounded interesting. It was a good choice. Both the bartender and the waiter were most helpful in making menu suggestions. Choices were very good.
