Blades' Bistro Ratings and Reviews
The blackened tuna with mustard beurre blanc was great - 2nd time in two weeks I have had the tuna. My wife had the chicken dish and it was well prepared and a delight. We were a bit puzzled by the wine service - when the bill arrived they had added $4 to the price and when we asked about it the server said "..ya, I saw that..." but she didn't do anything about it. And then it took a while to get a corrected bill (thus for the reason for the 3 stars for service.
This is one of our favorites. We hadn't been in a few months and it was just as good as ever. We like to sit at the bar and the bartender was helpful and nice. We started with a cocktail, and they make very good ones. Then we had some wine, great selection. We always have a hard time deciding what to eat because it all sounds and is so good. If you like mussels and they are in season, definitely get them. If someone in your party has hearing issues request one of the tables for four in the back of the restaurant. They are enclosed on three sides and help with the noise, which isn't always too loud but if you get one or two tables with raucous folks it does tend to get loud. There is also a kitchen bar if you like to watch the action there.
The non meat entrees were sparse, and the wine pour equally sparse. I wondered if it even reached six ounces, and I doubt it. It was more like 4-5 ounces per serving. That said, it was a nice place. My partner liked the ribs, and I had a wedge salad with crab cakes from the appetizer menu. Slightly pricey meals, and the dining room is louder than we like. Tables along the bench seating area are really close to each other, so conversations aren't very private. We'll probably go back in the spring/summer and see if we like patio seating.
Blades is always amazing, service is great. Their specials are always special! The seafood dish is wonderful, one of the BEST dishes on the menu! Their signature cocktails are excellent as is their notable wine list. we were there to celebrate a birthday & our server Jeffrey was very attentive. It's becoming one of !y favorite places to dine!
We love Blade's Bistro and have introduced many of our friends since we were introduced by friends years ago. It is an intimate setting - definitely a casual neighborhood feel...and the food is an added bonus! Outdoor dining is lovely if the weather cooperates, but an "intimate" feel, nonetheless. From the north valley (Los Ranchos) it was less than a 20 minute drive (less than it takes to get to Montgomery and Juan Tabo in Albuquerque.
We recently moved to New Mexico and although the southwest food here is wonderful we were delighted to find a nice French type bistro close to our home on Bernalillo. It is very similar to our favorite restaurant in Washington state. I had the mussels appetizer (fresh and delicious) and my husband had the brussel sprouts. We both had a seafood pasta dish, which is a specialty at Blades. It was creamy with lots of yummy shellfish. We didn’t leave a bit on our plate. We shared the chocolate sampler. Also wonderful and perfect for two. The wine list wasn’t extensive but had a nice variety. The service was good but our waitperson seemed a bit harried. Can’t wait to return!
When we have special guests we love to go to Blades as we know food and beverages will be great and there won't be unnecessary distractions with service snafus and the like. It is also a good value. You can order a red and a white for the price of one bottle of wine and take home what you don't drink.
We were cold during our entire meal and had to put our coats back on after being there for 10 minutes. As the front door continued to open/close, we were greeted by the strong and cold air. Ordered the blackened yellow-fin tuna only to find it knee deep in a peppercorn sauce. I was never able to taste the fish in the sauce which I couldn't finish due to the overwhelming taste. The sauce also covered my veggies and mashed sweet potatoes. Oddly enough this was the very same sauce that covered my husband's steak entree, veggies and mashed sweet potatoes. The brie appetizer and french onion soup were very good. I've heard so many good things about this restaurant, but we weren't the least bit encouraged. I often feel that heavy sauces are meant to cover inferior cuts of protein.
There was not a lot of attention to detail. The carpaccio was not thawed prior to its arrival at the table. The vegetables looked and tasted tired, like they had been sitting around for a while. Fish was average at best, overcooked but fresh. Cocktails were great.
This restaurant was a great little find. It's a little bit of a drive, but worth it. Our stuffed zucchini was creative and tasty. All of our dishes and desserts left us commenting about one nice thing or another. The kitchen is open, so in a way you can have a show with dinner!
