Wonderful experience for the first time. Staff is professional and very friendly and food was absolutely amazing.
Birthday celebration very nice ambiance
This visit the food was not as good as usual. Maybe because we came in for a late dinner but that shouldn’t be an excuse. But the service was great as usual.
The hostess seemed to be a little unorganized and took way too long to attend to us and others. but we loved our server and the food was very good. They also have done a great job with spacing tables during this strange time we are living in.
We enjoyed ourselves. Loved that it was quiet & not crowded. We will definitely return
Great outdoor seating
Never disappointed with food options and taste
Went here because it was heavily recommended by family but we didn’t feel the love. I recognize that all businesses are trying to do the best they can with little these days, so I hope only the best and that these comments are used to create beautiful experiences for others in the future. The layout for this place is beautifully well done with great views of the river inside and out. They also did a pretty good job spacing out tables and creating an intimate, romantic ambience even in the middle of the day. It was disappointing then to be sat at a table w/ my partner at a table overlooking the server station. We asked the host if we could be moved to another open table in the section, to which she replied we have no tables left despite the table behind us being available. We waited for our server for a bit and then as we noticed that the table behind us was set but no one had approached it asked to be moved again. He finally obliged and we moved to that table. As we sat we noticed that one of the chairs were torn and had dirt on it, so we switched it out. The sever watched without assisting and left. We then noticed that the table wasn’t fully wiped down and had some food crusted in, I kindly asked that the server wipe the tables please, which he did and then promptly left the wipe he’d cleaned it with on the table! He came to the table two more times and left with the wipe still on the table. Dude dropped food at the table with the wipe on there and left. If my partner hadn’t wanted to go here so bad I’d been left. I had to flag another sever down and ask her to please remove this wipe. Food wise our experience was mediocre at best. I took the servers recommendation of chicken and waffles but I wasn’t feeling waffley, so I requested eggs instead. My scrambled eggs were hella plain in my mouth and on the plate and the fried chicken was not initially awful but was not above fast food chicken joint quality. There were overly fried and dry bits of chicken. Not great!
Confusion at check-in regarding inside/outside dining; the ipad menu provided had one set of prices (lower) than the bill that arrived. Manager deducted the difference. Asked for steak knife but server never provided - had to ask someone else.
Given this place a try a few times since its been open and it still hasn't improved. Service is awful, drinks are watery, food is bleh. It's a shame for having such a great location and ambiance. Maybe that's their business model since it attracts tourists.
Food was more like fast food quality. Service was slow. $2 mimosas was just orange juice, hip hop music blasting at 10:00 am! 3rd time was not a charm! We will not be going back!
The Host is clueless...... We made reservations and showed up to no wait with open patio seating but was told reservations are for inside seating and patio is first come first serve. If there is no one waiting and no one ahead of us and open patio seats why couldn’t we sit on the patio? Also..... We go to this restaurant atleast once a week, making the SAME reservations and is always seated on the patio and have had the same waiter (Omar) for most of our visits, who is amazing by the way. But it seems as though the host never knows what’s going on. On our last visit she told us the same thing that there is no patio seating but then one of the managers sat us on the patio. Love the restaurant’s ambience and food but the host during our visit was not a good representation of the restaurant when stepping in the doors.
The calamari and soft shell crab were both delicious as well as very generous portions.
Great food. Mostly expensive entrees but a few less expensive. They were out of the dish and wine I wanted but COVID has messed things up. We’re going back
Keep up the good work and our Waitress provided us with excellent service.
An odd snafu at the hostess station which initially told us that our reservation for outdoor seating on our 30th anniversary could not be honored because there was a waiting list was quickly resolved. Our waiter was outstanding and the trio fish dish on garlic potatoes was good but the fish slightly overdone. The desserts were scrumptious.
Appetizers were great..however the waitress never bought my entree. 🤦♀️🤷♀️
This place is not wheelchair accessible. It claims to be, but it really isn’t. No one cared. We couldn’t even get seated in spite of having a reservation
In light of COVID, reservations should clearly state location. Outdoor seating is a commodity but shoukd be an option. We were told when we arrived for our reservation we would have to wait another hour for outdoor seating.
Awesome service, environment and most importantly, great food. This is my favorite local getaway for my wife and I. Meals are not cheap, but they are worth the price.
We were surprisingly a little bummed. We all got different breakfast items and we’re not super picky people. The main complaint was the breakfast potatoes that were dry and seemed like they were previously frozen. Two of us got crab omelettes, which tasted good, but seemed small for the price. Maybe two eggs? My mom got the chicken and waffles. Chicken was great and crispy, the waffle was very bland and more plain than what you would typically get at a brunch place or even places like IHOP. My hubby was pleased with his eggs benedict, minus the potatoes.
Can’t go wrong with $2 mimosas and $6 bloody Mary’s.
Hopefully it was just a bad batch of potatoes.
Service was ok. We probably saw him 5 times during the whole brunch including the check, but we were self-sufficient and relied on the food delivery people for a few things as well.
We wouldn’t return for brunch, but I do love some of their other menu items for dinner.
My Birthday and the waiter was perfect and professional
We had a wonderful time here. Our server was a wonderful presence- funny and so good to us. The atmosphere may have been our favorite part next to the service provided and how delicious the food was. We will definitely be coming back.
So great !
Lack of consistency. While my swordfish dish was spot on, my wife ordered the rockfish dish. I previously ordered the rockfish on another occassion and it was amazing; perfectly crisp and seasoned with a large mound of crab meat topped with a sauce. On this occasion the portion was smaller (not a game changer), had the consistency of bacon (not in a good way) on most the portion, crab meat was almost unrecognizable, and little to no sauce. Our server was overwhelmed so he could not attend to us much; looks like he had 2 large parties to cater to simultaneous to our 2 person party. While the service was bland, again this wasn't a game changer. The issue was the low quality of food on this occassion considering the price you pay. I expect to have consistently great food when I visit. In this case, we were served something that looks worse than what I would have cooked at home. If you cannot create the rockfish with consistent size, cooking time, and portion of crab meat, just don't offer it.
My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary at Blackwall Hitch. We chose outdoor seating, and it was a very nice, cozy, and relaxed environment with views of the Potomac and an occasional take off from National Airport. Omar, our server provided excellent service, and every, single thing we ate and drank was exceptional. I recommend the flaming crab dip, the rockfish, and the New York Strip (I added a crab cake to my strip dinner).
Service was absolutely terrible. WiFi went down and they were delivering food to the wrong tables. Our appetizer did not arrive for ONE HOUR After being seated. Servers were pulling masks down to shout across patio at other servers. Bathroom was untidy and showed no evidence of regular sanitization. A woman came out of the restroom into the dining area without her mask on at all. No one seemed to be watching over any of these issues. I was very disappointed.
Enjoyed a lovely late lunch to include delicious ribs as an appetizer, salmon kale salad, and a seafood trio on top of mashed potatoes. Absolutely AMAZING service from STEPHANI - she deserves EVERY accolade imaginable! Probably the BEST server I’ve had in my dining experience.
First time dining here and it was amazing! Our server Richard was great and very attentive to our appetites. Will be back very soon!
Great food, good service and aesthetic are pleasing
Waiter was the best. Will highly recommend to our friends.
The food and ambience was great! Out waiter was young and new and couldn’t answer many questions about the bar. The bar manager Ki made up for it! My birthday celebration was great! I will definitely go back and plan on trying brunch.
We made indoor reservations, the booth seats were literally falling apart. A fake leather material that was shredding all over everything. All over our clothes (suit and dress). They definitely need to get new booth seats. They were messy and getting on the table and our hands. Not enjoyable. The view would have been better if they would clean the handprints and splatter off the glass. It was the inside of the glass not the outside. The outside could use work too, but overall the windows were filthy.
The food was amazing, the mixed drinks were not so good/not very good quality compared to their $14 average cost.
The staff, it seemed, were overwhelmed. The waiter forgot to put in our appetizer/starter. Meals were brought out first and when we questioned about the starter the waiter acted as if to go back and grab it instead of admitting to forgetting to put it in. (On the receipt order list it showed it was put in much later than the first item we had ordered). It came out 20 minutes after the entrées. He also was only taking mental notes so it left room for personal error. He was very nice though, but he was running around everywhere and it was hard to “catch” him throughout the evening.
The atmosphere would have been great if the seat wasn’t all over my clothes and the windows viewing the water and bots were not filthy. Light fixtures were beautiful. But I feel if the meal is $130 the seat shouldn’t be falling apart.
Overall, the food was awesome but the little things here and there brought the experience value down.
We had four different servers at our table. Had to waive our initial server down multiple times. It would have been better if we had one consistent waiter who regularly check on us. I also asked for a birthday dessert and sing for my fiancé in a striped polo (who I specifically showed to the waiter). All I got was a bus boy yell out who ordered a cinnamon roll..... no candle, no signing, nothing. I was really bummed about that. I wouldn't recommend for a birthday party but if its a small party it is good.
Nice ambiance and they truly make customers safer. Good food and selection. We ordered crab soup, calamari, crab-cakes and rockfish. Friendly server - Derrick and excellent chef Sonny. Definitely a good place to eat and relax.
Great service from Derek!
Stephanie was our waitress and she could not have been less intrusive but always present when needed. Stephanie was also extremely genuine, sincere, and authentic and we were thrilled to give her a very respectable tip. She was a gem and was the icing on the excellent dining experience.
Really loved our entire time at the restaurant on 8/27. Our waiter was Doing his last night of training And he was excellent. Gave us the best recommendations and kept the water filled. We will be back
Last minute birthday dinner. Dinner was great, had the calamari, lobster special, and the shrimp and grits. Everything was tasty. Our server was GREAT. Would definitely go again. Heard the brunch there is good too.
BW Hitch is also a sure bet for good food, service, and atmosphere.
