Blackwall Hitch - Alexandria
Book your next event with us
Delightful experience! Although we were there for lunch, it must have been a holiday or people were watching the trial. We had great service and seating any place we wanted. The day was beautiful.
My boyfriend and I went for brunch on Sunday. When we walked in, there were lots of people waiting to be seated. We had a 1:15 reservation. Instead of waiting, we found a table in the bar area and was able to seat ourselves pretty quickly. Our server, Money, was very attentive and took great care of us even during a big rush. The food was good and there was a good variety. The only con I would say is that maybe they overbook or people sit too long because people shouldn't have to wait too long past their reservation time to be seated. I would definitely go back again!!!
We had a birthday brunch celebration!
Spend sister's brunch at Blackwall Hitch on Sunday. Not only were the $2 mimosas flowing but the soundtrack for brunch was on point. Food was well maintained and service staff were friendly and attentive. We'll be making this our brunch spot regularly:)
If you are planning to go be sure to book a reservation. It's worth it.
Food was good but the service is extremely slow.
Great food and great experience!
Sorry, but the mouse roaming the dining room detracted from the experience for us.
First visit to the restaurant was great! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I plan to return in the very near future.
Food and service were good and I'd go back. But, Blackwell Hitch advertises on their website that they have a parking arrangement with Colonial Parking on Union Street. They don't. So we got overcharged for parking in a dilapidated parking garage with low ceilings and narrow parking spaces with far too many cement columns. So, the restaurant needs to correct that false advertising before I eat there again.
I've been to Blackwall Hitch (Alexandria) several times. The food and service have been consistently good. Unfortunately, I am not a dessert person so I can't comment on the desserts but would recommend the venue otherwise.
Had to send the crab soup and a salad back. The crab cake sandwich had hard bread. The waiter was good but the meals left a lot to be desired. We’ve been to the one in Annapolis and recall a great dining experience.
Blackwall Hitch was excellent but I have to say that it was pretty hard to hear my waiter other than that excellent restaurant
Met up with a friend for Sunday brunch. It was our first time experiencing the restaurant. I had heard great things and wanted to try something new. The food, ambience and the overall experience did not disappoint. There was a station for everything....omelette station, seafood station, meat carving station, waffle and French toast station, and so much more! The only thing missing was an unlimited mimosa option. But $2 mimosas was just fine. I will definitely return.
Ambiance and location were excellent. Service was great. And the music was excellent (he was great!). The food? For the price it was less than stellar. Not enough choices, one soup with old crab meat, only two meats at the carving station. Way overpriced for what they offer. Plus, an automatic 18% gratuity? I’m used to it for parties over six but not three and one was a child. Not sure I’ll make another visit for these reasons. Founding Farmers is a much better option for both the food and the price.
The food was good- especially the calamari! My biggest complaint was that it was really loud and difficult to hear the people at my table.
Great food, service, and relaxing music.
Our server, Jordan, was really great! The caramel hot chocolate wasn't as good as before, but was still good.
Date night with my wife and we said we wanted to attend Blackwall Hitch because we heard the food and atmosphere was nice. We checked in ON TIME for our reservation. The hostess checks us in, but as soon as another man comes up to the station, she passes us along to him to be seated. Well it was evident he didn't want to seat us because he was too busy telling us he was going to seat us (at least 3 times he said it), but he was fiddling with Christmas decorations (separating snowflakes at the hostess stand). Another woman comes up and he asks her to seat us. I guess the Christmas decorations were more important than the customer.
We get seated and we wait and wait. One waiter walked by our table and instead of asking had we be waited on (our menus were closed) he just kept walking by us with his hands in his apron. 10 minutes later I asked my wife if she was ready to go and she said yes. We wound up eating at the Chart House instead. Just ridiculous. Rude. No customer service.
The food was mediocre. Crab soup with mixed frozen vegetables (corn, peas, green beans) and a few pieces of crab, very odd. Fish/shrimp entrees over cooked, no flavor. Risotto side and rolls were good though. Waiter was very nice. We told him we didn’t really care for the food, and he sent over a manager who comped our soups.
There are too many excellent restaurants in old town, I’d skip dinner here and go later just for drinks and live music.
Great staff and food was awesome!
Great short ribs!
Excellent food and service. Will definitely return.
Website advertised a New Years brunch. Restaurant served an a la carte brunch with a limited selection. The eggs Benedict was bland and On a soggy slice of English muffin. The poached egg was slightly overlooked. Best Featusres were the friendly , prompt staff, Eapexially for a New Year's Day.
Made a reservation on Open Table for 10 AM brunch. Got a confirmation e-mail and text. Then the restaurant called at 9:52 to let me know they wouldn’t open until 11AM. Wasted an hour waiting for them to open. When finally seated, we staff was friendly and courteous. However, all four meals came to the table cold. Every single item. Biscuits and gravy (biscuits were stale, as well) grits, home fried potatoes, omelette, the works. The gravy seemed as if it had been prepared the night before and perhaps just began warming up over a low flame. I used to rave about this place but now I won’t be returning nor will I recommend it to someone else. Very, very disappointed.
First time of many! I absolutely love this place. Great food & friendly staff!
We went to Blackwall Hitch for NYE. We were sat in a dark corner by the bar service area, and no one came to the table to greet us for 10 minutes. It was hard to read the menus because it was so dark, but what we noticed was that the restaurant was using two separate menus. One was a la carte with few options and the other was a 3 course NYE special that was not only over priced, but it was tiered based on the time you were eating. It started at $75 per person and moved up to $125 per person by 9pm. The better items were all on the special menu and the a la carte menu had the leftover choices. We left before eating due to the poor service and seating.
We had dinner on new years eve and everything was great! We had a fantastic table with a view, great food and drinks including amazing dessert. All servers were wonderful as well. Recommend it highly!!!
We loved our meal at Blackwall Hitch. It was our first time there and the food and service were amazing! The location is wonderful, right near the water in Old Town. We will definitely be back.
Food was incredible, service was outstanding. Unfortunately, you better keep an eye on the check, as I was caught with service charges and generic food fees on a fixed price meal and a la carte menu, which added almost $40 to the meal. Definitely caught me off guard.
Brunch was delicious as always. Live music was nice. A little on the pricey side once gratuities are added. Overall, great dining experience perfect for families, large groups and special occasions.
Our server Jason made our brunch experience a wonderful treat... Thank you Jason we’ll see you again soon...
Great food/drinks and service. The restuarant itself was beautiful, and the live band was nice. My husband and I will definitely be back!
The waiter had zero personality and maintained an expression of pain when I asked for a second round of alcoholic drinks. When he passed out checks, I stated I would pay for mine and another and he sighed audibly as if I made some outlandish demand. The food isn’t food enough to make up for the service. I’ve always wondered why people that have a disdain for service work in the service industry?!
For a Saturday lunch, We were a very large group of 25 who made six separate reservations of 4-5 to make it easy on them.
They were so accomodating! They put us at two tables of ten and one table of five. Food and drink were good, i loved the crab cake sandwich which came with crispy, tasty fries.
Thecwaiter did not a great job of refilling our beverages!
The service was great. We loved Shawn. The food was ok. The band was really loud in a place where we went to enjoy a meal and conversation. We enjoy live music but thought it would have been more enjoyable. The ambiance was very nice and it was the most enjoyable part.
Super slow service and not a packed restaurant
My friend and I had a most wonderful lunch on Thursday!
Wonderful experience. Lovely setting, great ambience and service. Food is good and prices reasonable. Will definitely return.
Made a reservation and arrived 5-7 minutes before reservation was told to have a seat and would be called shortly. Guest walked in party of three but full party was not present and was seated before us. We were told table was being prepared but guest who walked in after us was seated with no reservation. Once we were seated guest that was seated before us was at a table near us which means table was ready but reservation was skipped or reservation doesn’t matter. Waiter Edgar changed our experience just by being a great host and exceeding expectations with providing detail menu options and drink recommendations.
Had an awesome time and will be back.
