Blackwall Hitch - Alexandria

Came at 145 for brunch. Got seats on time. Took 15 min for someone to notice us, then 30 min to get a drink. Service was slow at best. 2 servers in a section that seats 60 people? Would've waited longer for better service. Food for brunch was pretty much gone. $35 for a waffle, some eggs, and sausage. Heard this place was bomb but was majorly disappointed. I'd love to come back but feel like my money was wasted today.
It’s always a great time at Blackwall Hitch for Brunch. 👍🏾
Great experience. We will definitely come back again. Great food, great service, great ambience.
Overall a great experience! Food was delicious, well prepared. Server was polite but seemed a little distracted. It was early for a Saturday dinner in Old Town so I would say it wasn't terribly busy. This our 3rd visit to Blackwall, the 1st was happy hour, 2nd was our baby shower. We would definitely return. Thanks!
Wonderful staff, beautiful location, great fun and good food.
Very loud. Acoustics are bad. However the food was really good. $7 for a small plate of fries for a toddler was a bit much.
Oscar was our server and he was great. The food was delicious, as well as my Figgy Mule.
Very nice dining experience. Food was splendid.
Our meal at Blackwall Hitch was bitter sweet. The ambiance and service was amazing. Three courses of the five were great. Main course at first came out wrong and undercooked. Then the second time the Halibut was not seasoned and the steak was overdone. Of course when they td us the meal would be on them all was good again. We had filled up on the first three courses anyway.
When making a reservation via Open Table for Valentines Day, I came across Blackwall Hitch. After examing the menu listed on Open Table, I was very impressed and decided to book. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were seated and given a tasting menu and informed that it was the only menu for the evening, which Open Table failed to notify you of when booking. The cost was $65 per person, not including drinks, tax or tip. This would have been fine, assuming that we were notified ahead of time. However, although our server was very friendly, the service was terrible and the food was awful. By the time our main course arrived, *which we barely ate due to the poor quality) we were already asking for the check since we had already been there for so long. Very disappointed in the value of what we received along with the fact that Open Table failed to notify you of the select menu. The only upside would be the ambiance of the restaurant and would recommend going for drinks only.
Wonderful restaurant!!! The food was great, Tina our server, went above and beyond to make us as comfortable. Look forward to our next visit.
LOVED the vibe at this restaurant. Loved the apps. Great experience!
Valentines Day Dinner.
Great service, didn’t have to wait, I was immediately seated. Food was delicious and drinks were perfect. Service outstanding.
I would recommend friends, Just not on Valentine's Day. They had a very small set menu on Valentine's Day, it was good but not worth the price they were charging.
The food and service were excellent. The building used to be a food court and it has a lot of metal and open spaces. I know from visiting it in the past that the bar area in the center produces a ton of noise when it is busy on Friday and Saturday nights. Luckily, we visited it on a Thursday night when the bar was empty. So if you are interested in a quiet dinner you should avoid it on weekend evenings.
Enjoyed a great 4 course Valentine's dinner. Waiter Mark provided superb service. Chef Sonny's menu choices were tasty and artfully designed. Ambience was perfect for a romantic date night.
We came for 5 PM seating on a Thursday and there was maybe a few people already there, not crowded at all in the main dining room. We were seated in the middle of the upstairs dining room (empty of guests) and I had mentioned that the empty booth closer to the windows was preferrable, but was not granted that wish. I was okay since it was, afterall, Valentine's night, but that booth stayed empty through our entire meal, so I was a bit bothered.
The upstairs had cozy couch seating arrangements mixed in with dining tables and it had its own bar. Music and lighting were appropriate and since it was not crowded, noise level was fine.
We only had a choice to order from a pre set Valentine's menu, but we were okay with it. The food came out quickly and our server was attentive. The drinks were way over priced in my opinion. $14 for a grapefruit sparkler and we each had a $10 and $15 glass of wine with our meal. The lobster bisque and mango beet salad are a definite must try. I didn't care for the barbeque-like sauce on my lamb, but my husband enjoyed the chick peas and sauce on his halibut dish.
As we were leaving, a musician was setting up for a show, but we couldn't stay for it. Overall, a nice experience that we would only be able to afford once in a while.
Wanted dinner menu didn’t know brunch was til3pm, surprised we couldn’t order off menu. 2pm reservation didn’t get seated til 2:25, plates were scarce and service was poor. I know to never come on Sunday ever again. I previously ate here for business lunch and dinners , so I thought it would be similar and it is not. Hostess should inform guests at 220pm you can only get brunch buffet which shuts down at3pm. My mistake we should have left and went somewhere else. Table wiped but food underneath, never again and this was one of my favorite restaurants and the music playing was nice but way too loud.
Had a 2pm reservation but we weren’t seated until about 2:20. Food was taken to the back literally at 3pm I’m the dot. No one told us that hey you only have about 30 minutes to eat all you can etc. went back for a second plate and nothing was there. Called on manager she attempted to make things right. We came her for my brothers 31st birthday. This was our first time here and we may come back. Our waitress was awesome though through it all.
Everything was wonderful. The brunch was so delicious and the service was spectacular. I will definitely be going again and I’ve been telling all my friends about Blackwall Hitch. This is a place that you must experience.
The only thing that I did not enjoy was the noise of the band. Even though they were excellent and we enjoyed the music, it was too loud that we could not hear each other at the table. Seeing we had a party of 14, we had to walk to talk to the each other.
Edie was our waitress and she did a marvelous job with our table. AND Jeremy the manager was the MVP!!! Because there's 2 managers named Jeremy, I want to make sure the correct one gets the kudos. Jeremy worked on Sunday, February 10th at 11:30am. Even though he was not there at when our party started, he made sure that everything was set in place!! Everyone was impressed and the guest of honor was happy with her surprise brunch. I'd definitely come again, especially on a warm day to sit outside to enjoy the water, view, and breeze.
The restaurant is by the water. Such a beautiful view. They have a live Jazz band that play on Sundays at Bruch. Very amazing band. The food and service is outstanding. One of my favorite places.
My first time there and i was thoroughly impressed! The entire experience was amazing and will be going back!!!
Top notch service and stellar food. Crab dip is a MUST for apps, and on the entree side, the crab stuffed fish and Bayou Penne were both great.
It was our first time dining at Blackwall Hitch and we really liked it. Our server was outstanding. Her food and drink recommendations were spot on for us, and we appreciated her extensive knowledge of the menu. The service support staff was superb, too. As for the food, the crab dip starter and the fried green tomatoes aren't to missed. The fried green tomatoes are served with an awesome corn salsa and cherry pepper remoulade . When we go back, we'll likely stick with the starters and split a flatbread, which look delicious, in lieu of ordering entrees. The entrees (Salmon BLT and fish tacos) weren't bad, but we loved our starters more.
Way too loud. Food was so-so and incredibly expensive. We certainly won't be returning.
The spacious restaurant with its large open windows close to Alexandria's waterfront provides a wonderful ambience. Service is attentive without being overly so, and the menu provides a great selection for both seafood and non-seafood diners. Delicious!
We went to Blackwall Hitch for my Grandmother's birthday and had a wonderful time. Service and food was outstanding. This was my third time here and will keep going back!
Food, ambiance, atmosphere all outstanding. The service on this night left a little to be desired. Still a favorite to go spot in both Alexandria and Rehoboth.
Food was solid - scallops were just okay, but the pork chop with cauliflower hash was great. A little too much oil with the beans. Downsides - drinks (first thing we ordered) came out after we were halfway through the entree. Value isn't terrific either. This review is purely on food & value in comparison to other spots in the Alexandria area.
Matt was my server and he was awesome! Food was top notch as well!
Friendly staff and excellent service. Happy hour music was a bit loud but not so much that we asked for it to be turned down. We had a roasted chicken dish - simple and very good with outstanding veggies. We also had a carbonara that was exquisite. Our waiter (Omar) was great, providing prompt service and making very good menu and wine suggestions.
Could have just been an off night, but... our waiter was extremely soft-spoken and hard to hear; she seemed confused with some of our requests, and it took forever to have our drinks served when the restaurant was not busy on a weeknight. Food was OK, not horrible, not great. We liked the overall look of the place, but there was not much lighting over our table, and it was too noisy for the seniors in our group to hear. I won't seek this place out in the future.
Mimosas are NOT bottomless due to VA laws. It's $2 per drink. Just an FYI and did not affect our experience. Just wanted to let folks know because often with brunch, comes bottomless.
Several brunches later, I would return again and again. the Belgian Waffle stations should serve"warm" waffles or soft butter. Waitress was great even on a busy Sunday morning - early afternoon. Totally enjoy the jazz.
The food was delicious and the view is spectacular however the restaurant and bar area are VERY LOUD
Food was very mixed. Soup was to salty to finish yet the fried green tomato start was excellent. My wife's main course special of the evening was really nice while they got my meal wrong - waiter read me the wrong nightly specials. We ordered red velvet cake and it was apparently cut with a knife that was used to cut vegetables as it had a very odd taste. Bottom line...a mixed experience.
We were here on New Years and loved the place, the menu, the staff and the location on the waterfront. I recently had a business lunch and had some really great fish tacos and spicy fries. The bar is always prepared and you cannot go wrong any time of day.
We always have a great experience here. Food is great and the service staff is excellent. Location along the waterfront also is a plus.
