Over all it was nice. I didn’t like the chairs. Although They looked comfy, when you sat in them u sank down. Some of them may need to be replaced. I think they were bulky and difficult to maneuver. The brunch was divided in two separate locations. The hot food wasn’t very hot. I tried the pasta. It was excellent, but not hot. They had doughnuts for a pastry. They were hard. They also had the cutest little pudding cups. They were tasteless. The dessert bar left a lot to be desired. The rest of the food was ok. I have been to better brunch buffets for less money. I don’t think I will come back for brunch.
Appetizer was not very good and my Rockfish dinner was horribly overcooked-very dry!
The entrees were great We ordered the cheese board for an appetizer which for 20. Was a joke. 4 crackers and three tiny wedges of cheese, 3 small bites of ham. Grapes were thrown on to make it look bulky. We had fun with this at the table in a sarcastic way.
The service was good. Although, the manager came to the table and in a round about way told us to speed things up because our entree was coming out. I didn’t take it wrong but the ladies at the table didn’t like it.
Service was fantastic.. food was very good.. parking was easy strangely enough.. would definitely go back and recommend to friends and family..
We went on Mothers day and haven't been back since our service was terrible and they changed the menu. We decided to give it another try and so glad they brought back the spare rib to the menu so we will be coming back again and again.
Lunch food was subpar for $100
The food and service are consistently good here. The one reason that I didn't give 5 stars across the board is that employees and/or patrons would open doors adjacent to the dining area. As it is winter, the cold blasts of air were rather unsettling and uncomfortable.
I typically have no complaints about BWH- Alexandria location. Have been here several times for their brunch, for regular dining, and even hosted a surprise party there for my mother. Food is always good and service great.
However, we went a couple days ago for my Fathers Birthday on Veterans Day and we had excellent service per usual. My complaint is based on the value for two particular dishes. I tried the new rack of lamb on their menu with a crab cake added to it. I was pretty disappointed when the meal came out. The lamb chops were frenched and cooked to a nice medium but did need a bit more seasoning to my taste buds. However the biggest disappointment were the vegetables served with the meal for a $56 dollar price tag. Roasted celery, onion peals and carrots with what tasted like a stir fry rice. For the price, the meal just seemed very lackluster. I was extremely disappointed. My advice is stay away from that meal! Everyone else’s food was good. We did have a calamari appetizer that was basically burnt. Nonetheless, I will be more particular about what I order next time. Jess was our server and she was very accommodating- I give her 5 stars!!!
Great place for a family outing!
My server Jason was amazing!!! but it tool 1 1/2 hour before our food came and when it finally came my lamb was severely burnt and the mashed potatoes were cold. I'm usually very please with the food I'm guessing it was just a bad night
Nice view on the water. Food ok. Pricey. My friend and I had steak and blue cheese salad for a special get together at lunch. Pretty blah and overpriced for a lunch menu. Waiter was hovering and overly familiar. Might go back, but doubtful.
We were a party of 4, and the restaurant was almost empty. We ordered some appetizers and dinner. The main courses arrived 65 minutes after we received the appetizers. It seems that the waitress forgot to send the order. Terrible service. Very disappointed.
Food is of decent quality with the variety n value. Service is below average and the main factor we’d never come back. Showed up 15 minutes prior to reserved time and was told a table would be ready in a couple of minutes. Waited N waited. Thought they didn’t want to sit us until our time slot. Past the reserved time we went up to ask, twice, and was told a table was being set up. On the third inquiry, I asked specifically how much longer it’d be and was told another 30 minutes due to overbooking. The waiting area was full of people with reservations yet waiting for 20 minutes plus. Very bad communication. Poorly managed booking system. Communication was not forthcoming. Service at the table was mediocre. We had to flag down the waiter to get a check n to pay. Will not go back there ever again.
We had a reservation for brunch at 11:45am, and it was crowded last sunday, so we didn't get seated until 30 minutes after our reservation. They kept saying a few more minutes, but it turned into a half an hour. I understand that it was busy, but they weren't giving us realistic expectations... even with a set reservation. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here two years ago, so I'm going to just say they were having a bad service day.
Review on brunch only. Overpriced. Only worth it if you plan on having good amount of oysters and shrimp. Fried chicken was seasoned well. Everything else just average.
Service is Always Wonderful And The Food Is Delicious
We were not aware when we were first seated that the restaurant was hosting a wedding with a live band. The wedding was not in a closed-off area of the restaurant. The music and singing was extremely loud, making it impossible for any conversation at dinner. The food was good, the crab cakes were very nice, but we had not signed up for a wedding band. It seems like they should decide if they want to be a restaurant or a wedding party destination. Being both does not work.
The flaming crab dip was AMAZING! It’s a gorgeous, laid back place I would definitely bring friends there!
Wonderful crew beginning to end of our meal. The food was really good but everything was lukewarm. Flavors delicious. Waiter amazing with his recommendations and service top notch.
Food was very good. Only downside is the Almond Joy drink was extremely skimpy. Very little liquid and too much foam for a $10 drink. Two spills and it was done. ☹
Service very poor - even after asking for manager assistance no real apology or corrections made. Server remained the same and service very poor on an uncrowded evening. Will not return too many other better choices nearby!!
The best part of our meal was the waiter. Slim Black man gave us exceptional service. We all were so pleased that we’re planning on going back for another Sunday brunch. He even saw that we were hit as we left and he came outside with a tray of cold water and found us near the waterfront. Very nice gentleman. I wish more restaurants had waiters like him. Thank you.
Staff was very polite, food was fresh a great variety for brunch.
Good vibe, good food and good people!
Came here for Sunday brunch with the family. The food was good. They had a pretty extensive brunch selection. The servers making the omelettes and by the waffle maker weren’t very friendly. I tried to engage the waffle maker in conversation and she was borderline rude. Not even a smile. If you work in a service industry you should at least pretend to be pleasant. There was a jazz band that began playing as we were leaving. Overall it was an OK experience.
Very good. Enjoyed our time. Money was a fabulous server. Food was great. Will come again. :)
Started off well...seated promptly and got a nice booth by a window. Our server was great, drinks arrived quickly. We ordered chicken, steak, seafood risotto and a short rib sandwich.
The steak, which was ordered medium rare arrived well-done. Medium may have been acceptable, but well??!! Way overcooked. Sent it back while the rest of us awkwardly nibbled at our meals. The sandwich & risotto were good - the chicken was just okay. Skin had a good color and flavor, but the texture wasn’t the least bit crisp...just slimy and hard to cut with the butter knife I was given. This was in fact, just a flattened out cheap piece of thigh. The Brussels Sprouts that came with the chicken were undercooked and hard in the middle. Potatoes were good and the presentation was nice.
Finally we got the the 2nd steak. The outside looked great, but the inside was ICE COLD. Not medium rare, but basically blue. At this point, my guest was over it. Sent back the steak again, and was uninterested in ordering anything else...especially since the rest of us were mostly done eating by this point. The manager offered him other food, but...no thanks. You had 2 chances to get it right.
Other reviews said this place was sub-par for the price...we gave it a a chance, but ultimately agree. Unless you really want the view, eat elsewhere for the price.
Had a client meeting and sat outside for lunch. It was a glorious afternoon. Perfect temperature and every table on the deck was occupied! Food and service very good.
This was an anniversary dinner while we were on holiday in Alexandria. I had read some very mixed reviews and though a little apprehensive decided to give the restaurant a try. Very glad we did. Staff were very courteous from being met outside to our server, Paul who was extremely attentive and helpful. He willingly catered to my husband's request to swap the brussels sprouts with the chef's grilled vegetables. My husband had the NY steak and I had the duck breast. Both were excellent. The vegetables were grilled to perfection. Portions were quite adequate even though reviews indicated otherwise. The desserts were overpriced we thought. The only negative was the noise level which because of the design of the building is a tad high for easy conversation. But we enjoyed our evening nevertheless.
Very good overall experience. Great drinks, outstanding Prime Rib special. Loved it.
Great drinks and food but a little to pricey
The live music is a great addition. It was a bit loud, so recommend trying to sit away from the band. Service was great, aside for the hostess.
Also, for some reason they weren’t ready to seat at 10 am even though they accept reservations this early. The hostess actually told us that is was going to be 10-15 minutes “because we just opened,” which seemed weird. We selected that time frame because we had plans for the rest of the day. They accept reservations this early and they’ve been opening at the same time on Sunday for a while sooooo...
TL;DR don’t bother with a 10 am reservation, they won’t seat you immediately. Make reservation for 10:30 or later.
Grif was awesome!
I was disappointed after what I thought was a great meal by an insect running across the table.
Food was good. Background music was much too loud, we could not hear each other.
We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we are returning...2 days later—for a family birthday dinner. Best oysters and lots of interesting seafood options. Plus it is nice to have a water view.
I expect better from a place that charges $30+ for most entrees. Our server never filled our water glasses, wine glasses, and was extremely pushy about, apps, overpriced cocktails, and dessert. There are far better restaurants in Alexandria that don't charge nearly as much.
I really love this restaurant and wanted to take my brother and his wife there who were visiting from California. I ordered the special lobster risotto which was nice but very little lobster. I have noticed that the portions are a lot smaller than other restaurants for the price. Last time I was there, I ordered the shrimp and scallop risotto as I have to eat gluten free and again, 2 maybe medium shrimp and 2 scallops for $30.
Our waiter was great initially but as the evening progressed, he got very busy and we had to wait quite a while to get our check. Again, he was wonderful but just too busy.
We did have a lovely table by the window as requested so I was pleased about that.
Not only is the place beautiful, the service was Awesome and the food was delicious!!!
