Blackshop Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
I've taken my wife a couple times to Blackshop and generally it was great. But I felt this Valentines menu fell short. The food tasted great but portions seem smaller than usual. Not sure if it was because its a Valentines menu and they were so busy they went will smaller sizes. But my main issue was the incredibly intoxicated lady beside us swearing like a trucker and the servers not doing anything about it. I suppose I should have talked to a manager but they were right beside us I didn't want them to say anything to us. Even our server said he knew she was wasted but yet nothing was done. I don't feel like we will be returning for another visit.
We came to celebrate a friend's birthday and were not disappointed with the menu choices nor the wine list (his favourite). The service was great......the quiet family dining room was intimate and the surprise birthday dessert was delicious and not expected. Thanks for a lovely evening.
I found this spot on Trip Advisor having never heard of it before. I made my reservation through Open Table. Very easy to do. The decor was lovely and the service was outstanding. Our server helped us with selections and was very attentive. The food came out hot and delicious. I ordered the pasta special and it was excellent. Good wine selection as well. I highly recommend this restaurant. I will defiantly be back.
The Blackshop was very accommodating regarding menu items. The last time I was there was about 2 years ago and the restaurant had plain schnitzel with mashed potatoes as an entrée. I do not like cheese and did not see this item on the menu. When I asked about it, the waitress indicated that it could be done without cheese. As well, I just wanted a garden salad that was not listed on the menu but again they were very accommodating.
The only issue I had was that when I did the booking online, I did indicate that it was for my birthday but somehow that message did not/was not conveyed over as I did not receive my birthday dessert.
The ceasar salad and french onion soup was delicious..but the salmon entree didnt taste very good at all...and for 31.00 you should be able to enjoy your meal..
Also....the seating could be more private...
You felt like the people beside you were at the same table..
We had a gift card to try it but probably wont be back...sorry
Excellent restaurant. If we lived in Cambridge we'd eat there every week. The restaurant is very relaxed in its colour palette, comfortable seating and quiet atmosphere. The menu has enough variety and the wine list is superb. Service is always friendly, professional and attentive. We look forward to dining there anytime we need to be near Cambridge.
Would only recommend to a friend for their main courses and for sitting in the bar area. The seated couch area is not very cozy or intimate. Feels like your eating in a group setting or in a fish bowl. Our Ceasar salad was underwhelming. We think they forgot to add the dressing and our coffees came to us lukewarm. Unacceptable for a restaurant of this magnitude. So will restrict our attendance to when we want a good main course without the unnecessary fanfare. Thus the bar and the high seating areas are more suitable to ensure we get some privacy while we eat and talk.
This is hands down the best restaurant in the city! The food is excellent. Cooked with no shortcuts or added chemical flavour enhancers. Just true, talented cooking. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Always our go to place for special occasions, dates, dinner with friends and business dinners. Hope this restaurant is around for a very long time as we would have to travel a very long distance to find another awesome place to eat!
5 of us met for a Sunday brunch, 3 of us have been here before. 3 ate off the brunch menu and 2 of us ate off the lunch menu; nice that there was a choice. We all had a difficult time choosing as there were many good choices. The 2 people who were visiting for the first time were highly impressed with the ambience and the food. Our service was outstanding, around enough if we needed anything but did not rush us at any time. We all agree that this will be a go to place for us in the future.
We are regular customers at the Blackshop and this visit was to endulge in their Winterlicious Menu. We were not disappointed! The Goulash soup was excellent, (our favourite soup!) and both the Shepards Pie and Pork Tenderloin were delicious. The sugar pie was decadent and as always, the service top notch (thanks Tanya!).
I have been using the Blackshop for over 25 years ( in 3 locations) and this was overall the worst meal I have ever had. Very disappointing and in a way sad.
The food was well below the old standard in terms of quality and quantity.
The current staff have an obligation to keep the standards at a very good level.
Although the staff were attentive they lacked energy and vibrancy.
The greeting was pleasant and polite. We were given options for our table and we able to choose the ideal spot for a nice Sunday evening meal. The food was excellent as was the presentation aling with the attentiveness and help from the staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
My friend and I had a birthday that we wanted to celebrate. (Even though we didn't mention it was a special occasion). We consider Blackshop to be a special occasion restaurant as we come from out-of-town and normally is priced above frequent dining for us. We enjoyed the service, beverages and meal very much and finished off with delicious deserts. Thank you for the gracious serice and delicious meal.
