Definitely the best crab cakes in town. Excellent service. All in all a great experience, as usual.

Excellent and 'different' seafood restaurant including a fish counter and market catch of the day options ... really fresh fish and seafood options cooked to the menu or choice. Delicious - we started with cocktails and oysters (choice of different 'boutique' and premium varieties). My crab cakes were superb (very rich) and the other diners were very impressed by their choices. Only visiting otherwise would certainly be back.

appetizers were not good at all last Sunday. Had dined in the back room and at the bar before and I enjoyed all I had in the past, but they (two appetizers) were not. Not sure if it was something to do with being Sunday dinner? Seafood stew and mussels were very good. Didnt have desserts.

Very good evening at Blacksalt, quiet atmosphere, very good service. Excellent fish and great selection of oysters. Sometimes the chef tries too hard and the dishes are a bit too fussy.

As usual food was excellent, restaurant was very full and therefore noise level detracted from our enjoyment. Wait staff ..some excellent, some not so much. Love the restaurant

We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Black Salt again this year. We did so last year and with luck we will again next year.
We asked for and got a table in the room behind the wine storage area upstairs. If you have a special occasion to celebrate please do yourself a favor and request that area.
We opted for the five course tasting menu and we were not disappointed. And we splurged and got the wine pairing to boot. So it was a pricy evening but memorable.
We look forward to our next visit perhaps around Christmas...and what a nice gift hat will be.

We have dined many times at Black Salt, and love their delicious seafood. This visit was disappointing since all of the food seemed salty to both of us. The wine selection and the Kir Royale we enjoyed as a pre-dinner drink were excellent; we specifically asked that the bartender go light on the Cassis and he did, making it what we felt was a perfect Kir Royale.

We have been going to Blacksalt several times a year for at least 8 years and have never had a bad meal. The food is delicious, well-prepared and beautifully presented. The service is consistently well-informed and courteous. The only negative comment I have is the recent sharp escalation in prices, with entrees now $36-$40--a bit on the high side for a neighborhood restaurant, albeit one with a region-wide reputation.

Great place for a la carte Sunday brunch/lunch. Went with a party of 6 and everyone really enjoyed the food (said what they ordered was "excellent"), but even though the place was only half full, it was loud and really hard to hear others at the table. Except for one party of eight with some kids, we were the largest party in the place, so the noise level seems to be more about acoustics vs. large numbers of people. If I go back, I think I'd confine it to a party of two so at least you can lean in when talking/listening.

What a fun spot. Fresh seafood for sure as you pass the market on your way to the restaurant seating in the back. It was simply delightful in decor and ambiance. Large glass barn doors allowed you to peek into the kitchen and the entire staff was welcoming and friendly.

The express lunch menu for just under $30 let you sample everything including a midday cocktail during “happy hour”. I enjoyed a seasonal cauliflower bisque to die for. An entree of flavorful mussels and tried the key lime pie and butterscotch desserts. The Bellini was my cocktail of choice. If you love seafood and are in the DC/Nova area you must go.

I have eaten at BlackSalt many times before and it was always very good. Sunday, however, I was there for brunch and I must have gotten the bottom of the pot. My eggs Pontchartrain had almost no seafood, little ham, and instead was mostly chopped red pepper with a heavy black pepper flavor--like when you get to the bottom of the soup pot. The service was spotty. I was never asked if I would like a coffee refill and they couldn't wait to shoo us out the door even though the place was half empty. Not the BlackSalt I had enjoyed in the past.

This restaurant provides consistently great seafood -- especially oysters. In fact the only problem I have with the place is some of it's customers, and the inability of management to handle them. We were enjoying a couple dozen oysters and fine wine when a "lout" sat down right next to us at the oyster bar, pulled out his phone and destroyed what had been a lovely lunch. When I complained to a manager she said "what can I do"? The lout proceeded to challenge me to "go outside and fight with him".
Wake up Black Salt and curb your mad dog.

Very disappointed. For a fish restaurant, you would think that they could at least get the shrimp cocktail right. $15 for 5 very small, limp and dirty shrimp. We only ate one and sent the order back. Two other fish/scallop meals were ok. One was horrible. It was a very small dish with two very small bite size pieces of lobster on top of veggies. Waste of money! The bill was $205.00 for three meals, two drinks, and no desert! Horrible!!!

Love this place. One of my top 3 Go-To places in NW DC. Deserve early, black Salt is a local favorite for the surrounding neighborhoods.

Exceptional food with fresh fish expertly cooked and presented. The staff works well together and makes dining a pleasure.

Makes sure to ask detailed questions about the entrees on the menu, there is substantial creativity in the preparation and you'll want to know as much as possible when making a selection. No slab of fish on a plate at Black Salt

We met our friends from Alexandria there and they had received great feedback on my choice of restaurants. We were not disappointed. From cocktails to appetizers to entrees to dessert, everything was delicious, well prepared, and outstanding. I would have gone back the next night if I could have. A great find!

Very nice meal. Have been there multiple times in the past but on Satyrday we sat in the rear wine room. Much quieter than the main restaurant and an extremely pleasant space. Will definitely ask to sit there In future.

Black salt has wonderful fish and my only complaint is the temptation to over garnish dishes. One if ya had the crab cakes which were straightforward and wonderful. I had a scallop dish. Marvelous sweet scallops but to many other things on the plate. Seafood stew again cleaner presentation. Key lime pie for dessert always super. Prices remain a bit higher than seems right for a "neighborhood" restaurant but perhaps that is not the right label for Bkack Salt

Good food but very over priced for what was offered. It’s a place I would mention if someone needed an idea for a place to go but I would not put it on my list as a must go to place. The wine was very over priced ( ex. bottles for 17$ if purchased at the wine store were 17$ a glass here). The grilled squid was ok but nothing to rave about. The sea bass was just ok but at $38 it was vaguely disappointing (4 oz of fish with beans). The oysters were good.

I really like this place a great deal and I’ve never been disappointed in the food, it seems to of gotten better over time as well. The only thing is the tables are simply too close together so they should remove a couple of the small ones to make just a little bit more room. Otherwise just a fabulous place.

We were seated in the quieter linen-tablecloth room at the rear, with attentive and explanatory service. One of us has an extreme allergy to allium family veg -- onions, garlic, leeks, chives -- and it's usually very difficult as most dressings and preparations include one or more of these. The server worked with chef to grill bronzino with lemon & dill in olive oil only, much appreciated. Excellent wines.
