Extremely overpriced, but otherwise a good all around experience
As always a very relaxing and enjoyable time. I couldn't get by without Blacksalt, especially now.
So fantastic, Wendy took care of us for my girlfriends birthday. Completely gave the menu to her to help us and wow, so amazing. Great time, great staff, such a wonderful experience. Thank you BlackSalt!
BlackSalt never disappoints, still a solid restaurant. The oysters were amazingly fresh, the himachi delicious, however the octopus was described as grilled and appeared to be poached maybe? Still good, just not as expected.
Dining room comfortably accommodates groups and couples. Limited vegetarian options.
Great except for one guest very loud
Only grabbed a few bites but we were greeted by ALL members of the team from Management to the front store workers! HUGE DEAL! Very warm and welcoming! Wendy was our server she was very kind and informative. We will be back to try the 55.00 PF Menu soon!
The food was so good! Love the service. Thank you for a great date spot.
Excellent service. Excellent food!
Great service provided by both Kate & Eric
The food was great! Our waiter was nice and very attentive. I would definitely go back again
My friend and I came to Black Salt for DC Restaurant Week. I enjoyed the food and the wine. I will definitely come back!
We went to Black Salt for Restaurant Week (lunch), and had a marvelous time. The food was excellent along with the service, and all COVID-19 safety measures were implemented. Fabulous!
Great food as always, great and friendly service too. Given the current pandemic situation, the restaurant and servers did a fantastic job making us feel safe & welcome in a surreal situation.
Restaurant week has a great selection of offerings, but the chef and kitchen always rock.
Our 'go to' for seafood in DC. Great staff and food. Always willing to accommodate special requests and you can't go wrong with a James Beard recognized pastry chef. She created the best birthday cake for my 70th. Seafood is top quality and always fresh or they won't serve it. Highly recommend this restaurant. Michelin quality without the hype.
The CoVID procedures at this restaurant was outstanding. The staff all had masks and gloves. The tables were spaced out. The service was absolutely amazing. We went for lunch and we had for our appetizers, the lobster dish and the octopus. They were both excellent. Our main dishes were just okay - we had the Halibut and the Snapper. The snapper was a bit dry and unseasoned and the Halibut was a bit rubbery (with the crust) and dry. The forbidden rice served with the Halibut was outstanding. Dessert was a so-so chocolate cake served too cold to enjoy so we passed on the calories. We would definitely continue to support this restaurant as we have had amazing meals in the past and these are weird times for restaurants.
We have eaten at all of the Black’s establishments and wanted to try BlackSalt for a special occasion. The menu appears to be scaled back from what had been previously on line, but that is understandable during the Pandemic. He staff was very friendly and the service was excellent. I didn’t much care for the seating arrangement but that is again a result of the times we live in now. Having had the mussels at Addies, we were excited to order them here as an appetizer. Unfortunately they were not nearly as good as those served at the other, now defunct restaurant. They came out barley warm. We sent them back and the waiter replaced with no problem and an apology. While the new batch was hot, they were very small, some came with just the shell and nothing else, but the broth was quite good. Our entrees were very good as was dessert. The offered wine selection was very limited and overpriced. I again attribute this to trying to cope in a difficult time. Overall I would say it was a good, not great experience, but certainly better than staying home.
Always great to be back!! The dishes were outstanding, very creative!
Outstanding restaurant. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the outstanding food and the outstanding service. We will turn to BlackSalt and highly recommend to our friends.
I had dozen oyster, it was the worst oyster I have ever had. It wasn’t shucked (?) right, I chewed some rock(?) shell debris (?). It also smelled a little bit too, my husband couldn’t eat them at all. I heard that they had best oyster so we went, but so disappointed.
Excellent- so glad you’re back. 😊
My wife and I had a lovely lunch at Black Salt. All of the food that we had was outstanding but the wood grilled Branzino really stood out, perfectly cooked with Mediterranean accompaniments. Our service was attentive without being overbearing.
Lobster and avocado salad; dessert; service: outstanding
Ipswich clams—a little over-fried
Swordfish: very good but far too small for the price.
Great restaurant—very good food, some room for improvement.
This place was great! Wanted to find the best seafood in DC for my boyfriend's birthday and have every confidence we found it. Service was fantastic and we felt very cared for. Will definitely be returning for our next special occasion.
Every time I go to Black Salt, it gets better and better! Truly a hidden gem in the city. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who loves seafood.
So good to be back
Our dinner evening marked the first time we had been out since March, and while we're pretty proficient in the kitchen our visit reminded us of the sheer pleasure and magic when a superb chef and a welcoming and professional staff combine to create a piece of art. We are so grateful, and hope that others will go soon; this is a treasure that should not be allowed to go under in the troubling times we all live in now--or ever, for that matter. Thank you for a terrific evening.
Our first restaurant visit since the shutdown. We have visited BlackSalt many times in the past. Food is consistently good. I enjoyed the oysters Rockefeller, salmon poke & calamari. My husband had the cream of mushroom soup & the branzini, our daughter had oysters on the half shell & lobster all were good. Service was pleasant& dish delivery was well timed. A very nice evening!
I had the unique (?) experience of having lunch at Black Salt on the last day it would have table service during the COVID-19 pandemic. There were three of us who were looking for good food in an atmosphere that would permit conversation. We found both.
The restaurant was rather empty and there were no issues with being able to practice social distancing. Service was attentive and excellent.
There is a prix-fix lunch of which I availed myself, having a vegetable salad with interesting ingredients which were presented in an appealing manner. I then had the tuna sandwich, that came with cole slaw and chips. The fish was excellent but was overpowered by the focaccia bread (my only criticism). i finished with a delicate sliver of flourless chocolate cake dubbed 'chocolate alchemy."
My companions also enjoyed their dishes.
I will go back as soon as the world permits such a foray again.
BTW: There is a fish market in the front of the establishment when you enter.
We enjoyed being seated in the back room where patrons could be spaced apart to observe the rules for limiting social contact. As always, the dinner was delicious and the service was perfect.
Turns out this was our last night out for the foreseeable future thanks to Coronavirus. At least we went out with a bang! The food was absolutely delicious, service was flawless, and the dining room was very nice.
This is always my favorite "go to" restaurant. The food and service are superb.
Good to get out
I had the express lunch The mussels were soft and not good. I usually get the mussels and are very good.
Special place to eat seafood. excellent atmosphere and attention. I recommend it.
Overall a great place. Seafood varieties galore. Knowledgeable waitstaff/sommelier. My only issue was the swordfish was overcooked. Otherwise a great place.
As always excellent food, great flavors and wonderful service. Introduced a friend to Black Salt and she said she will be back!
Generous portions. I really enjoyed my seafood stew and seasonal salad. Service was excellent.
Went back to Black Salt for the first time in a few years. Not sure what caused our hiatus. As always, we had a great, fun meal. Our server Brett was great and the sommelier brought us a great value wine that perfectly complimented our excellent entrees.
Unquestionably, one of the best seafood restaurants in DC. We will be beach again soon!!
