BlackSalt Ratings and Reviews
The freshest seafood prepared in delicious an delightful ways plus great service = unbeatable combination. When we arrived at 12 noon, the restaurant was dimly lit, as for a romantic dinner. When I asked if they could possibly turn the lights up so that I could see my food, the staff obliged, which was truly wonderful. Everything would have looked gray in that dim light, but in proper lighting, the beautiful color pairings shine.
Went for Washington Restaurant week lunch. Three course meal offered significant extra value over normal menu prices. Soup (a different one from the website menu), the Provencal Seafood Stew, and the Truffle cake were all well executed. Service was also appropriately attentive and pleasant.
Had lunch for 2 twice on restaurant week. The value was excellent, the food very good, especially the seafood stew. We all had seafood. The only drawback is that the noise is deafening even in the innermost room. I have a hearing problem which compounds the problem, but an attempt at insulation would help Black Salt.
Great dining experience! The food was wonderful, and the preset lunch menu a great option for a quick, relatively affordable option. My only complaint: the $6.50 Americano and $4.00 iced tea. While the iced tea comes with endless refills, the Americano does not. Still, the small biscotti was a welcomed touch and ending to my meal.
A lovely evening at Black Salt enhanced by outstanding service! The food was excellent - from the butter poached lobster appetizer (worth the price!) to the big eyed tuna and branzino and topped off by a yummy dessert - triple layered butterscotch pot de creme. Made it worth it to slog thru rush hour traffic.
As my date said, "this dinner was perfect from start to finish!" Wendy was our server and she was amazing! When we sat down she greeted us and gave us a great menu tour! Wendy made the perfect recommendations. We started with wendy's recommendation of the charcuterie board. We also had the calamari and Thai spiced shrimp. And of our apps were great! For the entrees I ordered a simple tuna and my date ordered the halibut. The halibut was amazing! I'm not the biggest seafood fan, but I really liked the tuna the way the chef prepared it! To finish off we had the butterscotch dessert. The sommelier came over and paired wines with our apps (the alberino) and the house riesling with our entrees.
This is a meal we will remember for a long time and we will be back soon! A great experience, great service, great food and friendly staff! This meal was more than 5 stars!!! Thank you Black Salt!
The service was superior. We just had to look up and someone was there to attend to our need. (My husband let the Manager know how responsive the staff was.). The swordfish seemed to be fresh frozen and my husband was disappointed. The oysters were outstanding and the staff explained what kind and the amount of brine, so it was both a taste and educational treat. We shared the three different creme brûlées and they were delicious. The beer and wine list are substantial. The oysters and service will have us come back again.
Another lovely lunch at Blacksalt! Food was great, service especially so, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. We lingered with another glass of wine, and even though the dining room was pretty empty by that time, the service was wonderful all the way through.
Everything was delicious! We were nicely surprised to find this gem. Sunday lunch/ brunch is a completely different experience from the happy hour!
We shared the pancakes and each had a entree, love my crab cake dish! Great bloody marys made with fresh tomato juice. Highly recommend Black Salt for a lovely Sunday afternoon.
BlackSalt has a varied and creative menu, with specialty in fresh fish and seafood which are well-prepared and served. Since my last visit there, prices have increased dramatically and I would say it now ranks with the most expensive places to eat in the DC area.
Overall the seafood is good. I ordered the grilled branzino (whole fish) - was slightly overcooked/mealy, but had a nice flavor. The others in my party ordered the swordfish and they liked their entrees. Ipswich fried clams and beet salad were good starters. Desserts were pleasing (creme brûlée trio, banana mousse, and warm brownie). Good neighborhood restaurant.
Last family dinner together before shipping son back to college, and the whole family is still talking about it. Impeccable service: Doug knew everything about all aspects of the menu, from oyster source and flavor profiles to appropriate preparations for various fish options to wine pairings. Meal was perfectly paced, and as it was a family dinner we also appreciated that we could easily hear each other talk even across a large dinner table while sitting in the center of the room. The food was beautifully prepared and presented with well balanced flavors. The meal was a highlight of our entire holiday season. We will be back.
We've been coming to Black Salt for years, and it's always consistently good. This time, stopped by for a pre-theater dinner during happy hour, which was preferable to the overpriced options at the Kennedy Center. Just note that they do not take reservations in the bar/café area (where you can enjoy the HH menu). Docked 'em a star because there was a slight hiccup whereby our wine order seemed to get forgotten (until several exaggerated glares at the bar), but otherwise was great. Food was delicious and got us well fed with plenty of time to drive down to the KC for our show.
We had a superb dinner with excellent service and drinks. To our great surprise and pleasure we were seated in a room beyond the wine cellar, which was wonderfully quiet, with white table cloths, carpeting and just the right amount of light. None of our group of six had to strain to here the conversation! Heaven.
No big deal food ok not going back any time soon what how many ways can I say no big deal other places even in Reston are just as good so will not go back nor recommend it to any one next time will chose another restaurant better suited for mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmaammsdjjddjjdjdjdjhdhshdhdhdhdhrhrhrhrhrhrhrhhrhrhrhrhrhrhehehehehrhrhrhrhrhehebsiejdjdhrhrjejebrhrbrbdbrbrbrhrnrbejdjenrjrbrbrnrnrnebrnrjjrjrnrnrnrnehebennej
We had the express lunch (wine, appetizer, and entrée). Both the mushroom and sunchoke soup and the mussels were very good. Unfortunately, we couldn't say the same about the Caesar salad and the tuna sandwich. They were only okay in our view. That's why I can't give this restaurant a very good for food. The wine that came with the express lunch was nice. And the value was excellent. $22 for a glass of wine and two courses is a real bargain.
After a long wait to be seated and another wait to place our orders, service improved. Generous with comped drinks. Appetizers were good. Main courses were mediocre. Seafood in the low-country stew was over cooked. Branzino came as bland filets with tomato glaze. Not recognizable as the fish we ordered.
