Black Salt food is consistently good and the service is also always superior. We always look forward to a meal there
Love blacksalt. I’ve been coming here for the last 12 years and never disappointed. Kids love love their menus. Friendly staff and great atmosphere.
The service was excellent from check in to departure. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful in describing the dishes. Most of the portions were adequate although a few were not. The coconut Thai stew in particular was disappointing and had very little seafood content. Overall I thought the restaurant experience was okay but certainly didn't live up to our high expectations, based upon the reviews we read.
Food, ambience and service excellent! Recommend and will be back!
We sat in the back room which was nice and quiet and cozy. The food was very good. I would highly recommend it!
Excellent service. Delicious food. Perfect atmosphere. Thank you for accommodating us. Great experience.
Perfect as usual. Was a Thursday early evening so packed but the service was quick and efficient. Food was outstanding as expected. This is probably my 6th or 7th visit and I’m never disappointed.
Wow- if you’re looking for pristine fresh seafood skillfully prepared this is your place! Also very notable, from the front of the house to every one working the tables and the bar, this a first rate professionally staffed restaurant. The seafood preparations are obviously the product of a chef and kitchen at the top of their game. Lobster app was incredible, galangal seafood stew will make you happy and get some of those fried clams! A neighborhood restaurant yes (lucky neighborhood) but so worth a short cab ride if you’re staying down town. My new “go to” place when I’m in D.C.
Always a good choice for fish lovers and fine dining.
A good beer and wine list and gracious staff.
Best seafood restaurant in DMV. Dishes have a lot of flavor and fish is cooked to perfection. Look forward to returning.
I don't understand how this restaurant has fooled so many people. My grilled branzino -- the only whole fish on offer -- was way overdone, dry and tasteless. I do a better job at home. The tashimi starter we split would have been insufficient for one person and was not great. The ambiance is dreadful -- dark, noisy. Pesce at Dupont is much better and much better value so if you want fresh, seasonal fish, properly cooked, go there, and enjoy the charming ambiance. We wanted to give Black Salt one last chance and they flunked.
Poor service and a unkempt restroom dampened our experience. I will not return
It is always a pleasure dining at BlackSalt! Because the cost is at the high end of what we like to pay for eating out, we tend to mark special occasions here. Have never been disappointed with the food. The main dining area is fun and noisy, the smaller rear dining room a lot quieter and conducive to a relaxing conversation over delicious food. We enjoyed sharing the soft crab and baby octopus starters from the specials menu, and our mains of mussels, grilled branzino, and crab cakes were all demolished with delight. For us, it is very important that the breads served are of excellent quality, and in this regard too we were well-satisfied.
Black Salt is a classy restaurant with attentive service and delicious food. However, their dessert menu is missing an essential item for a classy restaurant: a dense chocolate-only dessert. We go there twice a year when French friends come to town and a chocolate-only dessert has never been on the menu.
The seafood was excellent. Our party of 4 had three different seafood dishes - all outstanding.
The food is very well prepared. You have lots of options since it is also a retail fish market and they will accommodate your requests. The service is not rush and we where able to linger for lunch.
Wonderful birthday dinner at BlackSalt. Excellent fish - perfectly cooked- and lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend
We had another terrific experience at Black Salt. That is why we keep returning!
The food was, as ever, outstanding. The service was even better. Our complements to Eric who made our lunch most enjoyable.
Black Salt has become a "must go" during our frequent trips to DC to see our family. And, we understand that our daughter who lives in DC is also a frequent customer. Keep up the good work.
This is an outstanding restaurant with excellent service, food and overall appeal. It was our anniversary and I can stress enough how special we felt as a couple coming here. It is now a top favorite restaurant for us.
The food, wine, and cocktails were absolutely delicious. The prices for oysters, salads, and appetizers are reasonable, but the entree prices are insane. Next time we go, we will happily nosh on the starters! Service is outstanding.
We often eat at one of the Black's restaurants because they are consistantly excellent. This night was no different. I started with oysters which were nice and meaty, but a little less flavor and that's all you can expect now from farmed oysters. Hard to get those tasty brined oysters any more. Main course was the snapper, maybe a hair overcooked, but the crispy cover is the way I like it. My wife had scallops which were absolutely perfectly done. Desert was the peanut butter chocolate cake...a 9.99. Had a nice chardonnay recommendation. All in all another great evening at a Blacks resteraunt.
Thank you to everyone at BlackSalt for making my wife's birthday absolutely amazing. From the warm greeting we received upon arrival by the host, to the attentive servers, for the incredible tasting menu that we had,the personal touch on my wife's dessert, even down to our departure where the host thanked us for coming, everything was done in excellence and I again am truly thankful for making our evening an experience we'll never forget. You provided a meal that blew away our expectations and took my wife out of her comfort zone where she felt it was one of the best meals she's had. Even our water glasses remained full. I'm glad I came across this gem and we look forward to returning.
Amazing service and very knowledgeable wait staff!! Definitely will be back!
The Seafood Tower was good, the New England Clam Chowder had an overwhelming taste of salty bacon, the Red Snapper Entree was dry. The ambience in the back restaurant with the white table cloths was very nice. The wine was excellent and the service too. Overall the experience was ok but the cuisine was a disappointment.
The soft shells had just arrived from Georgia. They tasted like the ocean. Best I've had since AV closed.
Excellent food, though few wholesome options, and -- as forewarned by other reviews -- small portions. Fine service.
Outstanding food! I eat out a lot in DC this is my favorite restaurant hands down!
Every meal I’ve ever had at Black Salt has been a culinary adventure. Today’s lunch was spectacular. The service is outstanding as is the home-made ice creams. No wonder I ate there twice this week for my birthday.
Excellent as always 😊
The room at the back has bubble like echo so a few noisy people in the room might impact a private dinner conversation but the food and service are wonderful.
In a word, fabulous.
Best food I’ve had recently. Very tasty food and nice ambience.
Reconnected with old friends for dinner and the food, service and setting were perfect.
Definitely better for the older crowd. Atmosphere feels like you are going to Sunday dinner with your grandparents, kinda stuffy. Food was good, but not as good as the hype. 7/10, much better seafood options in the city.
Celebrating boy friend’s birthday. Waiter was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and attentive! Wonderful dining experience!
Seven of us and everyone was very, very pleased—
My favorite restaurant. I celebrate my birthday there every year and it never disappoints.
Have always loved, loved any variation of the crab cakes, (and any other dish) at Blacksalt. For this dinner, though, this dish did not work. It was salty and heavy, which is very surprising. My companions loved the seafood tower, and dessert was terrific.
