When we got there. We were informed that they were inly honoring restaurant week for lunch...
And the restaurant week menu was an excellent value. I loved the sweet potato and apple soup.
While our waiter, Tom, was very nice and attentive the food was sub-par. We all had different things and none were good. Three of us had the crab cakes, Which I personally have had on several occasions. There was no lump crab meat but LOTS of filler. The clam chowder had 3 clams and the rest was bacon....while tasty (cuz after all, bacon!) it should be called bacon chowder. We were all very disappointed.
BS was as outstanding as usual. Terrific food, creatively prepared and expertly served
Wonderful food, service and environment. Excellent drinks, appetizer was perfect. Only real complaint is the price, but for a special occasion, it’s fantastic.
Excellent service and delicious food. We had a party of 8, so we were able to sit in the back room of the restaurant which was super nice. It was like a private room with a few other tables.
We came for restuarant week, and all the courses were so delicious. The server mentioned they offered a similar deal for lunch throughout the year. That is really worth the money in my opinion.
The seafood is fresh, tasty & outstanding — BlackSalt knows seafood! For Restaurant Week lunch, we had fried calamari & steamed mussels as appetizers. Mussels were delicious with tasty broth, calamari was sweet & crunchy though little greasy. For entree, both the mahi mahi & Provencal seafood stew were excellent. The chocolate dessert was exquisite. Service was professional & efficient though bread was not served until we requested for some to sop up the delicious mussel broth. Even RW wine was excellent (Spanish granacha) & reasonably priced at $7. Fully recommend BlackSalt.
Excellent service and food was good. Enjoyed the open concept and the view of the kitchen. Like the fresh market also.
Service was very slow
Another great meal at BlackSalt. What I noticed this time was how well timed everything was. Our waitress and the support team did a great job. Everything beyond fresh and Delish. Special call out for the wine steward (not sure if she’s a sommelier). We felt very well taken care of even though we did not choose a very expensive bottle.
Food was delicious. Service was Impeccable. I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant
Incredible experience! Made my friend’s birthday extra special...the food is fresh original and delicious! The service is attentive with small touches that matter.
We have had lunch at BS before and we always have an enjoyable experience.
Not if it’s the restaurant week or not, the food portion seems smaller than expected. Otherwise overall pretty good experience. Service was very fast and courteous.
Mother in law dinner treat
Excellent, as always. The Best
Excellent, as always.
The service was great and the ambiance is very nice.
However, the food was over salted and a bit overpriced. I love salt and it is rare that I am one that complains about salt levels. All three in my party complained of there being too much salt in the three different entrees that we ordered.
Great Sunday brunch menu, lot’s of choices. Good brunch drinks as well.
Hands down, the most consistently dependable seafood in DC
Great food. Excellent wine. Seating at our particular table was hard to get in and out of.
Outstanding service and food!
Great place, great food. Excellent menu, all carefully prepared and beautifully presented. Wonderful place for a special meal.
Another great meal At Black Salt. Love the food, the atmosphere and staff. The drinks were fun and the food as always was outstanding. And Catherine was so great...paid attention to us!
We went for the Express Lunch - first time! Fantastic and we hope to go back soon.
The hanger steak salad was outstanding. No typical 80% filler of arugula. Lovely flavors and dressing.
My companions were also pleased with their ancient grains salads.
Wonderful ambience and service. The wife's crab cakes were delicious and tasted unlike any I'd had before. My John Dory was small and seemed a tad bit overcooked. It tasted ok but not $48 ok-kind of a fancy tilapia. I googled it and found out it's a quite expensive fish, so that made me feel a bit better. Perhaps a few more than 2 green beans would've helped, but they were tasty, as were the drinks we had from the cocktail menu (there's a specialty drink w/their name in it, a bourbon-based drink, and a sweet one w/yuzu that I wish I could make at home.)
Great spot for a NYE dinner-hope to get back by sometime to try something else.
Great atmosphere, very attentive service, food was amazing!
Excellent, as always.
Great food and friendly service
This was our second time there, but first time in the main dining room... from the time we entered the experience began. The staff is professional, knowledgeable, and take Pride int the service they provide. The food was amazing. We all ordered a cold appetizer, hot appetizer and an entree.... everyone was pleased, satisfied and talking about the next time we will return
We loved Black Salt! The service and the food were excellent. We were impressed with the teamwork of the staff. We had a dozen of the premium oysters, and they were delicious. The clam chowder is the best chowder I have ever had, and I loved the fried clams on top. We were able to order the scallop ceviche by itself, although it is an add-on to the seafood tower. We then had the fried lobster with mushrooms and ravioli. Tasty! We enjoyed the desserts: German chocolate cake and the snowball.
Every plate’s presentation was perfect. Just a fantastic dinner experience.
the food is amazing, every little touch seems perfect. my spouse and i are semi-regulars; we go as often as we can afford. service was a bit off this last visit, normally it too is outstanding. so why not 5*? well, how much is too much for a 4 oz serving of halibut? is $47 too much? will $50 be too much? a meal for two costs more than the computer i am typing on ... though it tastes a lot better. highly recommended for special occasions when price is no object. ask for the back room if you want somewhere quiet and charming.
I thought the menu was diverse and interesting. The lobster tempura was nice, but the crab cake entree was disappointing with a mushy texture despite being told by the waiter that they were mostly lump crab. Key lime pie needs to be slightly more tart vs sweet, the sorbets were excellent. My dining partners thought their entrees were "good", not great, thus the 3 star review. Suggest reviewing the menu and prices before going so as not to be surprised.
Server was great! I was there last year and it was fantastic. I think this year was colored by my new gluten allergy and not being able to order anything I wanted to eat.
What a lovely evening! We sat at the bar and Katie was her usual delightful self! Everything done to our liking.
It is that little out of the way seafood restaurant that you’ve been wanting to find. Great food, great service and a seafood market to boot.
First course appetizers were outstanding in presentation and taste, especially the calamari, and main course fish very good. Desserts, key lime and peanut butter concoction, were excellent. Service impeccable. The very reasonable prices for food of this quality and for good wine were quite a pleasant surprise after seeing the very high per pound prices in the fish store at the front of the restaurant. Only drawback was that finding parking was not simple. It was not impossible but it did take time to find street parking at midday on a Saturday.
Celebrated the night with wife and friends. The service was top-notch and probably the best part of the visit. The food was excellent as well. Terrific cold tower and desserts.
