Anniversary dinner, excellent food and service.
I truly hate writing negative reviews. I understand how hard it is to run a restaurant, so unless things are really bad, I give mediocre service and good a pass. Last night I took my son and his friend to dinner at Black Salt. We had a reservation, were promptly seated in a good spot, and a busboy came by to fill water glasses. From there, everything went straight to hell. The waiter took a drink order, a few minutes later the drinks arrived and he disappeared. It took another 20 minutes or so for him to show his face and take our food order. He mentioned something about a big party at another table, as that were an excuse for ignoring our table for three, and with a decidedly dismissive attitude turned on his heels and one again disappeared.
The food was long in coming. We tried to get the attention of the Maitre'D, she stopped, said she would check, and we never heard from her again. I don't know if this haughtiness of the staff is taught by the manager, but it is beyond rude. The food finally arrived, the mussels were very small, the portions on the other dishes not at all generous, it was a poor value at best. The highlight of the evening was our water glasses were always topped off. The only courteous person working at the restaurant was the busboy. I've eaten at Black Salt several times. I never thought the service was great, this time it was abominable. On the way out, my son who has been dining there for a decade, talked to the Maitre'D - the one who ignored us, and told her about our evening there. She didn't respond at all. Amazing. Keep away from Black Salt.
Excellent evening to celebrate our family
The food was great! We went for restaurant week and it was a great time. Would definitely recommend.
We went for Restaurant Week, which was a very good deal for this restaurant. The staff was very good-natured and friendly, given what a challenge week this can be for restaurants.
The service was just okay. We were served the wrong meal and it took a while for someone to come back and change it. The mussels were tasteless and the experience was a little tainted because our meals were not served at the same time.
Great RW menu, loved our server and food was excellent.
Perfect in every way!
Delish! Very elegant and amazing flavors.
We went for the Restaurant Week brunch menu and weren't especially wowed. This place sources really good seafood, but the atmosphere felt really stilted and the food didn't seem to be worth the money for full price.
We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation. The hostess told us that the dining room wasn't ready yet but she then started seating walk-ins (it was restaurant week). A different hostess sat us after we were standing their unattended for awhile. Once we were seated our food and service was excellent. It was a little off putting to start with and it's unlikely that we'll return despite the otherwise excellent food and service. There are too many other restaurants that seem to value their customers more.
Had a great restaurant week experience at Blacksalt. It’s one of my favorite places. They accommodated a group of four and a baby. The food was excellent and great value, they also did a great job accommodating a serious allergy. The waiter was exactly the right amount of attentive. We had a great time and did not feel rushed.
Visited BlackSalt for first time in a while for Summer Restaurant Week. First time I had been there for brunch. Was quite impressed by quality and variety of brunch offerings for Restaurant Week. Also quite pleased by service. Will definitely go back!
Good food. Would have liked more attentive service and the price was quite steep for what it is.
Some of the entrees were lovely. Three of us ordered the “best anywhere” crab cakes and were pulling shell pieces out! The servers were phenomenal! Eric and Steve? It’s pricey, so expect that if you go.
What a great meal and setting!
Great food and service. We were in the back dining room that was pleasantly quiet.
I cannot wait to return to BlackSalt for another very sumptuous and well-plated meal. I was especially impressed by every staff member's conscientiousness and eagerness to provide a top-notch experience for my guest and me.
The food was fantastic & the service was great. Nice to have a Sommelier on hand to talk about the wine list.
For my 3 course meal, I chose the Mussels as a starter, then the swordfish and key lime pie for dessert. Every dish and the side dishes popped with flavor in my mouth.
Had a wonderful experience that they are with my family I am my wife and two children under the age of 12 enjoy yourself great atmosphere customer service was supreme and location was a little far from our home but it was worth the trip
Excellent experience for Wash restaurant week lunch. All dishes were tasty and well prepared and the three course meal at the restaurant week price was an excellent value. Service was also very good.
Blacksalt always great food and friendly service.
The fried calamari was cold
It had been previously fried
I had eaten it before when it had just been fried. TOTALLY DIFFERENT
Food excellent as usual and service very attentive. The noise level was very high with the restaurant full during restaurant week lunch otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
The noise in the back (wine) room over lunch was so painful that we left early, rather than lingering over dessert. Alas, this cancelled out the effect of otherwise excellent food and good service. I mentioned this to the hostess who seemed indifferent to my comment. It seems obvious to me that there needs to be a sound-absorbing treatment for the ceiling in this room, as the conversations from nearby tables came through almost as they were amplified.
my friend ordered the mussels and they came out with very little broth. we weren't halfway through the appetizers when our entrees arrived. instead of putting the entrees on the side, they removed our appetizers and replaced them with the entrees.
BlackSalt knocked it out of the park. Even though it was Restaurant Week, food and service were excellent. Bravo!
The Food was amazing!!!!! The service was wonderful!!
BlackSalt is a gem! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious- cocktails, appetizers, seafood, fish, dessert and all is fresh and beautifully presented. They have a nice wine selection too. Service was pleasant and accommodating and the main dining area is comfortable with just the right level of activity. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you!
Excellent sample of food at RW and good service. Altho I was alone, i was immediately led to roomy seating in the main dining area (rather than seated in the bar or some hidden, dark corner). I had the heirloom tomato salad, seafood stew, and key lime pie, all super delicious. And when I asked, great bread. The only shortcoming: the stew was a bit skimpy. And I'm not sure if my waiter ever checked on me - but I was fine, and the food (and champagne kir) great.
Perfect in every way
We love Black Salt. The food is consistently very good. The wait staff are so nice. It is a treat to go there and over the years have taken guests there.
Outstanding food and service! Highly recommend Black Salt.
Delightful place that serves well prepared fish and other dishes. We went with a group and we all want to return and try other dishes
We visited Black Salt for restaurant week lunch. The food choices and preparations, service and ambience were all great! We were very happy that we chose Black Salt!
Excellent seafood. Good service.
Amazing food! This was my second Restaurant Week lunch at Black Salt. The calamari, fish stew and key lime pie we all delicious.
The quality of the food is excellent. The only drawback is the heavy fish smell at the front of the restaurant because it’s attached to an open fish market.
I took my father to Blacksalt for his birthday after reading about it in the Washington Post and we were not disappointed! They serve beautifully prepared fresh seafood. Everything we ate was delicious. They also have an extensive wine list. Just be aware that portion sizes are pretty small (you won’t leave hungry but you won’t have leftovers either)z
