The fresh and creative seafood at BlackSalt is always on point. Nice touches include the mixture of breads and olive oil and the great wine list and friendly sommelier service. It’s a tad pricey but then the food is a cut above what you’ll get elsewhere in DC.
Amazing tasting menu — do it with the wine pairing. Kristin is an amazing incredible expert and storyteller when it comes to wine.
Good service but the food wasn’t up to the reputation. Very pedestrian salad and pretty unexciting calamari
Great service and outstanding flavors.
Great service and fantastic food
We've been to BlackSalt several times and, as one of our favorites, we visited for V-Day. Previously there we lots of appealing items on the menu. There must be a new chef because the menu was markedly different and less appealing. It will be awhile before we return.
We had a wonderful experience. We had a table next to the kitchen and got
To watch food preparation which we loved. The service was exceptional and did not disappoint. All enjoyed their food immensely.
Great dfood, good service and a pleasant environment
Great seafood; always tastefully prepared. Chile margarita was quite tasty!
Great service as always and good food and atmosphere.
I often travel to DC and thoroughly enjoy the dynamic restaurant scene that the city has to offer and OT is usually the vehicle that I use to find my choices. OMG! Black Salt is remarkable. At a minimum one of the best meals that I have had, possibly the best. We did the five course tasting with a wine pairing.........mmmmmm. DELICIOUS. Every course was great, service was great. Entire wait staff teamed up like a synchronized team to make sure everything was perfect. Go to Black Salt if you want a memorable seafood dining experience.
Dinner was fabulous. We had a reservation for my birthday, January 15th, but had to change because Black Salt's only drawback is no valet parking or a convenient garage, and street parking can be challenging even without snow on the ground. But as an early Valentine's Day celebration, we could not have made a better choice. Everything was delicious, from the the special cocktail that benefitted victims of the California wildfires. My husband had the salad and I had the grilled octopus appetizer (which with Merguez sausage could have been an entree). We both had the crab cakes, which were perfect with the apple and Brussels spout slaw, and we split the special pear dessert. Special thanks to our lovely and gracious server Wendy? and a shout out to the sommelier; her recommendation of the Spanish gewurtzaminer (who knew) was spot on. We have always appreciated the price range for wines at Black Salt. One another thing...while the buzz in the front of the house is fun; we highly recommend the back room.
Excellent food! We will definitely go back again. Enjoyed my ribeye!
5 of us seated at a round table which was wonderful for conversation! 4 of us ordered the special pasta of the day - hand made pasta with rockfish, exotic mushrooms and garlic cream sauce which got rave reviews. Those who had wine or bloody marys had no complaints. We each ordered a small $3 dessert and passed them around the table to taste. All were wonderful but the caramel pudding got the most votes. One person had the wine and 2 course deal - lentil apple soup and fish tacos and was also very pleased. Our waiter was charming, willing to give us separate checks, and not rushing us at all. My only complaint was that the odor of the fish market seemed to permeate the dining room. This has never been a problem during the many times I have been to this restaurant in the past.
Food was good though the crab cakes were over spiced. The waiters were very attentive but a bit pushy.
blacksalt has been one of our favorite restaurants for a number of years now. this visit was for my spouse's birthday and they had just the right touch - special menu with happy birthday on it, quiet happy birthday from the staff, mini brownie squares dessert on the house. the rest of the experience was terrific as always. i only wish we could afford to go more often.
Perfect- if fish is your thing, this is your place. The wines, bread and desserts are fabulous too. We’ve had almost everything on the menu and haven’t had a bad - or even average - meal yet. We love Katie’s service so we can’t speak to all the servers but we make it a point to go to dinner here weekly. It’s not in our neighborhood nor convenient to where we live or work but it’s worth the effort - every time!
Excellent food and great waiter with terrific suggestions
great food, service and friendly atmosphere. management gives special attention
The food was great, but the waiter was quite loud and intrusive. He constantly interrupted our table conversation.
It had been awhile since we had eaten at the Black Salt. All previous experience had been exceptionally positive. That was not the case this past Saturday. We arrived on time for our reservation and we were promptly seated but not in the lower level with its warm, inviting, wood charm. Rather we led to a very sterile, cold dining area where the tables are arranged for maximum seating capacity. A private conversation was not possible. On every previous visit the service has been beyond wonderful. We were always made aware that our dinner selections and their preparation was not limited to the written menu. That was on all previous visits but not this one. The wine and appetizer were excellent but entree was a major disappointment. We both had a halibut, one of our favorites. It was dry, over cooked and serve over a red wine meat sauce. For several years the Balt Salt has been one of our go to places for a nice treat out where we knew the food and service would make for an exception evening. Saturday will be our last meal there.
Incredible service and divine seafood! It's a bit pricey, but more than worth the money!
It was sublime. The sommelier was very helpful and engaging.
Superb, fresh ingredients. Flavorful seafood dishes. A bit on the oily side, which can be improved. Appreciate the excellent service, among the best in Washington. Knowledgeable wine waiter. We always find pleasure dining here.
Amazing consistency and quality. Staff are knowledgeable and well trained. Never anything but top quality
Lunch at Black Salt, like dinner, is varied in choices (small and large, hot and cold plates) and served with great friendliness by staff who recognize those who have come in only a few times in recent months. On a very cold afternoon, we had caesar salads followed by hot and delicious Addie's Mussels in soft broth. Lovely.
Excellent service, food was amazing, great ambiance and setting.
Way too expensive
Dodd is always good
Food good, not great. Was very surprised actually
As always a fabulous night! Everything was perfect and all staff went out of their way to make it a wonderful evening.
Great food as always. Enjoying Maryland rockfish expertly done on a bed of potatoes and vegetables. Had a great dessert paired with a Willamette Valley pinot noir. Fun dessert of the day was excellant. If you have not tried this neighborhood gem put it on your list!
We love BlackSalt. We celebrated our Anniversary at BlackSalt recently with a great dinner.
We enjoyed the specialty oysters; especially the Patriot oysters from MA. Also, the Halibut was incredible...tender, moist, and seasoned perfectly. The Branzino was spectacular; the seasoning was exceptional.
Both white wines we enjoyed with the fish were perfect; a California House Chardonnay and another Italian White to go with the Branzino.
The chocolate peanut butter dessert was rich and a perfect ending to a great meal.
We will be back soon!
The fish was over cooked and totally overpriced.
This is our "go-to" seafood restaurant. The $22 lunch specials can't be beat for quality and value. The seafood stew is magnificent. The fish tacos are suburb. The Nanticoke Nectar IPA is great.
The lunch was excellent. Fresh seafood and a fresh waiter. Altogether, a fun experience.
the fixed price lunch menu was a great deal -- good selections and generous portions
Interesting restaurant with a wide range of seafood. Preparations are unique. Crab cakes were fantastic, lots of chunky crab on a shaved Brussels sprouts and chopped apple base. Branzino was served filet style and enjoyed, the salmon partnered with veal very well. Even the key lime pie for dessert was perfect. We will return!
