The restaurant quality has gone down
There is a waiter there who is extremely loud. When he is at a nearby table speaking to the patrons, it is difficult to have a conversation at your own table. We have been going to Black’s since it opened, and have noticed this waiter there for many years and don’t understand why management hasn’t asked him to lower the volume.
Great food - wonderful specials on the menu that evening. A little noisy for the hearing-impaired member of our party. It would have been helpful if the hostess had remembered our reservation and seated us without several reminders.
Food was excellent — cheese and charcuterie, NY Strip, sautéed mushrooms.
Very nice selection of wines including half bottles.
Service was excellent. Waitress very attentive.
Decor needs updating. Feels more like a diner than fine dining.
Very, very noisy. Difficult to have a conversation.
Food great. Very expensive. Lost server at end. No where
Brought friends visiting from CA here. Mistake! Food was acceptable but nothing special & quite pricey. Think $30 for bbq’d chicken. Service was awful. Waiter forgot our first course salads, missed my husband’s beer order, was too quick to pick up plates before everyone was finished eating, & screwed up our checks. Complained to manager but got only an excuse and a lukewarm apology.
Food was underwhelming but not awful. Service started out good but then our server disappeared for awhile while we were all looking for more drinks.
Food was good, but service was lacking (and this has proven to be an ongoing problem). We sat at the table for quite some time before we had to ask for a server to take a drink order and while they stepped up a bit after that, plates were not cleared timely. Definitely need to be more on top of the service
The food was excellent. We had never been there but we definitely plan on going there again soon.
Although reservations were made day before, I had written that it was a birthday celebration. No mention of it made, not even a “whose birthday is it tonight? Disappointed. First table the steered us to was a corner table with a curtain there and employees chatting behind the curtain. We asked if another table was possible and they graciously moved us. Food was good but service was spotty as it was crowded. I
Delicious paella and bay scallops, and the side of cauliflower was wonderful. Looking forward to a return visit.
Average but overpriced Easter Brunch. Not at all impressed. Kinda felt like a diner, Buffett not exciting.
The service was okay, but the food was over priced and the portions small. Caesar salad had old lettuce and was over dressed. Crossing Blacks off my list of restaurants to go to in Bethesda.
The host sat everyone in the same cluster of tables in an empty restaurant, when they could have given us some space. Our server was fairly friendly but didn’t have but a couple of tables, so could have been more attentive. There was very little food selection on the brunch buffet and most were cold, inexpensive side dishes. The omelette was undercooked and there was just one meat selection. We expected much better for $45/person. We have been disappointed each of the 4 times we have been to Black’s Kitchen in the last few years. Very poor choice for any occasion or reason.
As always the food was terrific... bone in Veal Chop was excellent... the jumbo prawns are always a winner.
A slight communication misstep, however all in all the service was good.
Thanks to Brando for covering the sommelier duties and to Vince the SIT...smile
Yes pricey, but worth the food and experience.... as are most Black establishments.
Disappointing for a restaurant in the Black’s group. I had a Caesar salad that was tasteless and not fresh. The mac and cheese side was outstanding though. The cornbread was unremarkable, but honey butter makes everything more delicious.
Overall, it was disappointing.
Amazing food and amazing drinks. Would recommend 100%
Our brunch on Sunday was great and the service excellent. Also nice being able to sit outside!
I was a little disappointed in the size of my filet, generally speaking, it was well under 6oz which is what I'm used to... Especially at that price point. The salmon my partner ordered was also on smaller side. Outside of the misproportioned proteins, the experience was great. The Mac and cheese saved the meal!
Black’s has a 3/4 Express lunch which is an outstanding value. The food was fabulous and hot, Sandra was a great server and the ambience was great! Would highly recommend this restaurant!
The night couldn't have been any more beautiful with my beautiful guest dining at a beautiful establishment with beautiful food and service.
First time Home Run. Cannelloni beans prosciutto bruschetta was crazy good. We noticed the kitchen was pushing these out so people were ordering then!! Mussels were also our starters ! Perfect! Drink Rye Cherry Rye was made perfectly! Dinner Salmon and steak dishes were excellent! Matt was our server and he was excellent. Staff and Service were great. Matt and Staff made it and we will be back!!
Ordered a burger to go - simple , huh? Not so much. Wanted no bun and salad instead of fries. Got overlooked burger on a bun WITH fries. Apparently nobody checks...
Probably won’t return. Too many other choices.
Black's is very consistent. The food is typically very good, the service is always very good and the ambience very nice. My chicken was good, but not cooked to perfection. A touch dry. Our waiter was great and the table location perfect.
Food was great, but the kitchen was really backed up.
Good is great and I love the muffins
And my guests loved the oyster selection
Seafood selection always fresh and recipes very tasty. My California and New York guests were impressed with their shrimp gumbo and Branzino flavors and My salmon from the wood fired grill was light and very tasty.
Sunday night so it was quieter than usual. But the food quality has declined significantly. Drinks are still good. Had 2 appetizers and should have stopped there. Calimari is good but lots of pepper. Seafood stew is mediocre. Tuna Nicoise salad was enormous mound of lettuce, about 6 pieces of unevenly seared tuna and pretty much inedible. 2 people received 3 pieces of bread???? Really unimpressive for a $150 meal.
Great evening. Celebrating birthday for a friend and minuets was customized with his name!
Best seafood stew I have had in this area. Key lime pie was delicious.
I chose Black’s Bar and Kitchen to take my out for dinner on our anniversary. I am happy to say they did not disappoint, they actually did an impressive job.
The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable with regards to the menu and drink items. He was always nearby even though he appeared to be waiting several tables besides ours. What I mean to say is that it felt like he was only our waiter.
The young lady that met us when we arrived was very nice and warm. Warm in that she was prepared and made us feel very welcome.
I loved it. Never knew it was there. Glad that we ventured to Black’s Bar and Kitchen. We will be back! Thanks for making a special day even so much more special!
Went for Sunday brunch and opted for the non-champagne all-you-can-eat buffet. Excellent value and tasty. The raw bar was the best with lots of choices. The rest of the buffet was ok, not as many choices. Quiche didn’t stay warm and some items weren’t replenished as quickly as they should have been. The French toast and prime rib was very good. Didn’t try the omelette station but there were lots of fixings for the perfect freshly made omelette. Too full to try the dessert station but there were plenty of options.
amazing food, amazing service...i love this place!
Awesome food and friendly staff. I’ll be back soon.
Food was great. Our waiter seemed in a hurry, not attentive
Awesome location for a lunch date close to work. Spectacular food, well presented and at great prices.
Went on a Sunday night. It was much calmer than on Saturday. Food was delicious and it was a great experience for us and our friends.
I was joined by my family at a table for four reserved with Open Table. We were on time and were immediately seated at good table for us. We ordered and were pleased with the service except for a wait for my oysters and our drink order. Our waiter Joel took charge of us and we were all very pleased with his expertise and pleasant demeanor.
One of our party enjoyed the buffet while the rest of ordered a la carte; and, all of us were pleased with our orders.
Mediocre, over priced food. Service was good
Really great server! Would go back just for her.
