We have been going to Black's for their brunch for the past few years to celebrate the new year. We were a bit disappointed to see that they have eliminated their buffet brunch and replaced it with an a la carte brunch. For some reason, people around us seemed to be getting their food, finishing their meal and leaving before we even got our first course. I usually like the restaurants in the Blacks' chain, but I won't be going back for brunch anytime soon.
Loved this place for their Sunday brunch Buffett. We were so sad that they stopped the buffet 3 month ago. We wanted to just leave but we were hungry. Loved my avocado toast but loved the brunch Buffett more. Probably will never go back ( it's far for us).
Great place to get a meal with friends.
My friend arrived a few minutes before me and the hostess was very accommodating and sat her according to her preference. When I arrived, I was delighted to see her sitting comfortably at what we both agreed was the perfect seat. Our server was attentive and friendly. I especially appreciated how she wiped the wine ring (left from my glass) from the table as soon as she noticed it. The food was impressive and presented/arranged beautifully. Dinner was amazing. We left and went to a concert nearby and decided to return for dessert. Although it was only 30 minutes til close, the hostess received us with a smile and our next server was just as great as the first. Definitely enjoyed Blacks. I hope to return soon.
Lovely evening and terrific food
Been going to Black's for years-- it never disappoints!
Blacks has been something truly special since they redecorated the restaurant and redesigned the menu a couple of years ago. Whether you are a fan of a juicy burger in the bar, a fresh salad with rich soup, artisinal cheeses and home-made mini-cheddar biscuits, or one of the fine steak or seafood dishes, Black's is a lovely dinner experience....and I have not even talked about the yummy red wines.
Great seafood everytime. Loved the Branzino and chicory salad. Friend had the bouillabaisse and it was amazing. The corn bread is super yummy.
This is my favorite special occasion restaurant. This time though, the experience was a bit below par.
Oysters always a treat. We live in Virginia Beach now and only see the taste impaired local water varieties.
Chefs are the best.
One meal did make it from the kitchen: one dinner was absent. It was reordered and arrived about 15+ minutes later. To their credit, it was complimentary.
Pistacio crusted: did not see any on 3 steaks. Powered?
Wine: the list has moved north from what I remember. VERY FEW choices below $100. I enjoy a medium priced wine (I am not a connoisseur), but would appreciate some choices in the $40-70 range (there are many fine CA & WA wines in that range).
Great dating ambiance!
The Sunday brunch at Blacks continues to be my favorite.
Our dinner was superb from start to finish. The bread basket was filled with fresh bread and savory biscuits with butter. We started with oysters, delicious and expertly prepared. The mignonette was very good. Our entrees were perfectly prepared: scallops, rockfish and seared ahi. My rockfish was beautifully cooked. Not overdone and served in a delightful broth of fresh vegetables. Done but not soggy. Lightly seasoned. Yum. The other entrees were also prepared with care and attention to detail. These people know what they are doing in the kitchen. For dessert we shared the key lime pie and it was so good. Original fresh presentation, light not overly sweet filling, dabs of candied orange rind and other bits and pieces topped with whipped cream. Even the coffee was perfect. Service was charming, helpful and unobtrusive. What a gem of a place.
Good food, not cheap
Nothing like before. It used to have a fairly good Sunday brunch. NOT ANY MORE. WHAT A BAD DECISION BY MANAGEMENT. They should feel it by now...NOT ENOUGH CUSTOMERS ON A BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY. WAKE UP MANAGEMENT.
I had previously had a very good lunch here. But the brunch was not good. Three of us ordered the BLT and Avocado sandwich. How can you possibly botch such a sandwich. The bread and tasteless and too thick and yet somehow fell apart while eating it. No enough aioli sauce so the entire sandwich was boring; even the bacon had no flavor.
The others were okay with their meals. It does have a nice feel to it.
Service was slow.
Won't come back.
Blacks used to be my favorite place for brunch, but it eliminated the hot buffet and desserts buffet, leaving only the raw bar; it raised the price of the raw bar. It is awkward if one person chooses from the menu and the other the raw bar because the one choosing from the menu will start later and finish earlier. Overall, the a la carte menu is overpriced (as is the raw bar). May go back, but certainly not soon.
Went with young adult kids and wife for holiday dinner. Outstanding.
My friend ordered scallops and was very pleased with her meal. I ordered the seafood pasta and it came to me wit about a half cup of cool and dry pasta, 1 shrimp, 2 mussels and one clam. Not anywhere worth the price.
Used to love this place. The prices have gone up and the food was not as good as before. Tiny fried oysters with shells in them, rubbery duck and understaffed for number of clients. Hope they fix this.
Great food & service! I had the avocado salad with salmon and it was excellent. I will be back soon.
Overall service was not what I would expect from this type of restaurant. Food was decent but not worth the spend in my opinion.
Big fan of BlackSalt and looked forward to first visit to your Bethesda restaurant. Food was excellent. Two things of note. There is a strong smoke smell that wafts through restaurant and my hair smelled of it. That noticeable. Also, service not on par with BlackSalt. The value was ranked lower here despite good food. Smoke smell and mediocre service doesn’t balance the value equation. Needs work.
The rockfish I had, as well as the goat cheese salad, were good. Coffee and wine were also. A little expensive, so not sure I would go back for that reason.
The team was fantastic!
The menus noted our anniversary.
The food was excellently prepared.
We will return on our next DC visit
The rock fish entree rocks!!! Excellent!
Excellent seafood! Great service and experience! I want to thank Matt bartender from Marriott hotel for the recommendation.
Blacks is solid and reliable. I was slightly (very slightly) underwhelmed this time but overall, I love Blacks and will return many times I'm sure.
Try the seafood stew. It is truly amazing and I order it most every time I'm there. It has a bit of spice to it and is very flavorful. Ample seafood and fish. The butternut squash soup is the best I've ever had.
Poor service. Bartender failed to place order for oysters and when reminded 1 hour later, shrugged it off as “oh, I forgot”. No ownership for poor service. Food was slow in coming and waited over 1.5 hours for table despite being reassured that it will be another 15 minutes.
Black’s Bar and Kitchen is a wonderful find in Bethesda. The express lunch special is fabulous and you will not go away hungry.
Black's Bar and Kitchen consistently knocks it out of the park. Terrific food, great service, and a very nice atmosphere, though it can get a bit noisy at times. We love this restaurant--and keep going back!!
Very accommodating to my wife passing the legal bar. The staff made our night and we will be returning soon. Btw: get the ribeye: the kitchen knows what they are doing please believe me
Service was excellent. Food was tasty and portioned well. Quite enough to hold a conversation at low to moderate tone.
Love Blacks. Have gone many times and for many different occasions, it's never let me down. Highly recommend it.
As usual, a wonderful and sometimes surprising mixture of flavors. Expensive but worth it.
Good food but a bit too pricey. I also charged $2 for a side condiment for my scallops.
Everyone enjoyed their dinner, while bronzino, fish stew, tuna and the hanger steak! Convivial atmosphere and just the right amount of attention from the waitstaff. Spent over 3 hrs there, but of course it was a Monday.
We booked a table for brunch, expecting the extensive and delicious options offered just 4 months ago, a raw bar and a hot food bar with pancakes, waffles, omelettes prime rib, salads, etc. as well as a great desert table.
We were sadly disappointed that the brunch buffet was discontinued. Instead there was a limited raw bar for $35 per person and a separate brunch menu. Not at all what we were expecting.
Keep in mind when heading out for brunch. A lot has changed.
The staff is kind, knowledgeable, and fun. Food is always interesting and exceptional.
Enjoyed the attractive dining room and the service was very good. The food was good but not great because it just didn’t have flavors that made me say, “Wow, I have to come back and eat this again!” I will try again because I liked the interior and the service. My cocktail was unique and tasty but tiny — I’d like a bigger bang for my buck.
