I was there for brunch on a Sunday. I think they put most of their effort into their brunch buffet and would not recommend ordering off their regular brunch menu. My friend and I did and were very disappointed. The medium rare steak was cooked well done and everything tasted very average. When we ordered coffee the first coffee cups were dirty on the inside and they poured coffee in the cups with it being dirty. We asked for new ones. It has great atmosphere and maybe it was just an off experience but not in a hurry to go back and overpay for average.
Food was ok a little bland. Service was good and atmosphere was great....
Sat outside on a beautiful afternoon, not much to complain about. Arrival was friendly, quickly seated on the patio. service was ok, no major flaws but lack of attention to detail showed. Refills on water and iced tea were only accomplished by flagging down the server. BTW, anyone else bothered by Iced Tea with little to no ice by the time it hits the table? Kills me. Oysters took some time to arrive but were cold and briney, shucked with expertise.. Steak and eggs prepared perfectly but the star was the garlicky potatoes. Give me a plate of those and a few beers, I’m good. Overall good experience. The restaurant was kind of quiet, maybe they cut some staff. Seemed like the kind of impact on service that occurs when the room isn’t buzzing. Busier the better in this market.
Black's Sunday Buffet is back! We had a great brunch there and the quality, variety and quantity of food is well worth the $. Great brunch and excellent service. Definitely going back
arrival and order taking great. food arrived initially well but didnt see our sides until our entree was finished as well as the waitress. Food did taste very well, but for a near empty restaurant was disappointed not to have everything in order. Everyone seemed working hard, maybe a bad day but it dropped our opinion of being the next great place..
I booked a table for 4 for a business dinner here. We were seated promptly. The service was just right. The food was delicious. We shared 2 dozens oysters, a bottle of red and white wine then I had the seafood stew which was so good. My colleagues had the roast chicken, pork chop and scallops, and everyone said their food was perfect. The price was also very reasonable.
Great selection of oysters, except for Sweet Jesus which had no taste at all. But that is a question for the ostericulteur to answer. Tuna tartare with yuzu was delicious. The entrees seemed too big and too expensive.
So it may be a good idea to offer demi-portions to those who love good food but cannot eat much- yes, that category does exist!
Plum and Armagnac ice-cream was terrific. If at all I come back, I would come back for that!
tasty oysters in July; pleasant and attentive staff; a consistently good restaurant for many years
Been coming to Black's for years. It's a consistently good restaurant for casual get-togethers.
The drink selection is reasonable, and the service always good. If you're a foodie, you should probably look elsewhere. On this visit, I tried the ribeye steak, which was very good. The calamari appetizer, however, was not so great, and the sides decidedly average. Overall a "good not great" dining experience.
Attentive waitstaff but not intrusive
Always a pleasure to dine there
I was very sick that evening and think it was from the rockfish. Not good at all.
Very nice service and ambiance but my $14 Black's salad was tasteless and mostly wilted greens with very few of the advertised vegetables. A shame. Salads are easy! Bean soup was tasty.
Delicious food, sophisticated ambiance and great service
Food good but nothing special or innovative. except for specials menu the same. Many mains come with out sides , not good value.
The food was delicious as always. However, our service left much to be desired. I ordered an apple and Brie salad - no Brie. I ordered two sides for dinner, they brought the wrong one. I was surprised they didn’t leave the wrong one until mine was ready, you would assume it was headed for the garbage anyway. When my side did finally arrive - a vegetable dish, and the restaurant was not crowded (a Monday night at 6:30) - we were done eating. They packed it up to go, but didn’t say anything. For a 24th wedding anniversary dinner celebration, it was a disappointing evening.
Great oysters and mussels along with good service. The tables are not jammed together and its possible to have a conversation.
We were back to celebrate Father’s Day and my dad was very pleased with the experience and food. Our sever was fantastic.
Very disappointed with our meals-mine was overly seasoned-way too spicy from Old Bay, others said their entree was just ok in taste. Pricey for what we got. Service was fair at best.
We had entrees of whole grilled branzino and soft shelled crabs. Both were excellent and the service was really good too. This was a Saturday night and not quite the place for quiet conversation, don't know about the sound levels the rest of the week. The food and service alone make this a recommended place to go.
Disappointed this time. Out of gins of choice, asked for no dressing, come slathered in dressing. Usually terrific and have gone often to this restaurant. Use to be our favorite. Will wait awhile before returning...seems to have slumped.
I've got a new favorite in Bethesda - wonderful food. Service was a little slow - waitress seemed to have a lot of tables but was very personable and the food more than made up for it
My wife and I had lunch on their outdoor patio. The noise level from the construction across the street was oppressive. Jackhammers banging away. Our waitperson was very friendly, but the food took a really long time to come out. One item was not served as ordered, and had to be sent back. The quality of the food, itself, was typically very good.
The ambiance is good, good design. The food wasn't outstanding but good. The service was surprisingly bad. I've been to other Black's. This is by far the worst.
We celebrated our son’s 41st birthday with dinner for 5 people, ranging in age from 9 to 71. We’re frequent Black’s diners, and our meal was delicious as always. And because it was a birthday dinner, we all had dessert,
Overall just not a very good meal. Service was lousy and the quality of the food was equally bad. Hamburger too salty and the bar food was flavorless
We were able to sit outside on the patio which was delightful. The food was really excellent-salads then salmon and rockfish. The server was only fair.
Great outdoor seating in Bethesda. Food and service was fantastic. I have been there twice for business lunch and would highly recommend.
Awesome food overall. Friendly and professional service--like all Blacks group restaurants.
Always a good bet for food and service - love the food and perfect spot for catching up with friends.
We really enjoyed our dinner. The food is always outstanding. Our waiter was top notch (a cut above the more casual bar staff). Good and reasonable kids menu.
The oysters were outstanding. I chose from the specialty oysters and enjoyed all. The Addie's mussles were huge and delicious AND spicy. The burger and its roll were scrumptious and the special salad with smoked salmon a hit!
The staff and kitchen produce a super product: first class meat, very well prepared, attentive staff, great wine list. The best kitchen/bar/staff/location in town, despite competition of Morton and Woodmont Grill. We always leave with a smile.
I took my friend to lunch for her birthday. It was quiet. The waitress was very helpful with changes I wanted for my meal. The food was served promptly. It was very good. My friend enjoyed her meal too. My friend and I were able to catch up in a quiet, relaxing environment.
Love everything!!! My favorite place. I can find something to eat always
We celebrated Mother's Day. Food was very good. The pork chop was slightly overcooked. When we mentioned this to our server, he told us that the kitchen would grill another chop. A new and delicious chop was served promptly. The restaurant did not charge us for the chop and our dessert. We had excellent service.
We all enjoyed our experience and dinner. But my mom AND dad cannot stop raving about their dinners!! Thanks for making Mother’s Day a hit for my family.
Service was great, but I wish the buffet was better. I have spent less for better tasting meals.
We had a wonderful pre-Mother's Day dinner with the family. Black's never disappoints! (really, at dinner we talked about how consistently good our experiences at all the Black's restaurants have been).
