Excellent service; very fresh fish
The paella was too spicy, loaded with butter, and had very little sausage, fish or chicken as in a traditional paella. The chef needs to learn how to make this dish. Also the food in general is too peppery. We like spicy food but prefer to not be surprised by loads of pepper in dishes that are supposed to be milder.
Our server was very attentive. The oysters were excellent. We also enjoyed the mussels. They could benefit from more choices from the "wood smoked grill". The seafood stew was not a hit, but other dishes were excellent (Branzino). The hard surfaces on the tables and floor make for a somewhat noisy background.
The restaurant was very loud, the food was just ok and the service was not great. I asked for the candle right above our table to be lit 6x since it was dark and our kids were trying to color during dinner. The candle never got lit and it took forever to get silver wade, water refills and appetizer plates.
Everything was great - delicious food and excellent service.
Great chicken sandwich with hummus appetizer! Thank you for the excellent food and wonderful service. This is one of our go to places.
the menu was less and the costs more than I expected. Very nice atmosphere and great quality food, though.
Made a reservation but chose to sit at the bar outside which was energetic and fun for a Friday date-night. The drinks were incredible and the food was ok.
There is a soft double cream brie cheese on the charcuterie board that is honestly the best i've had in my life. I asked what cheese it was, even just the brand/farm it came from and they wouldn't tell me. The waiter claimed he asked the chef but then forgot on the way back to our table. This wouldn't be a huge deal but apparently they change the cheeses on the charcuterie board weekly. I still need to know what cheese that was, it keeps me up at night and I am furious that I may never eat that cheese again because of this silly restaurant.
Additionally, my boyfriend and I found it overpriced. For two appetizers and two drinks it was $68, not including tip. The charcuterie was the star of the show, but nothing on it was made there and they charged $25 for it, which is not outrageous, but also not moderately priced. Our other appetizer was the grilled calamari which was truly terrible. It just tasted like grill and needed lots of sauce to make it palatable.
Thank you for the kind words on our Open Table review, please pardon our server's narrow minded thought process, the cheese you enjoyed that night was Brillat Savarin Brie - cheese maker Henri Androuet -- Regards Black's Bar & Kitchen
The food and service was outstanding! Thank you for a fantastic experience.
This was our second visit and both times the service and the food were outstanding! I highly recommend this restaurant. The fish is wonderful and the vegetable side dishes were unique and delicious!
It was awesome
Service - great!
Appetizers: mussels, Calamari and oysters - very good.
Entrees: my husband order the large steak off the menu. It was $45., came with nothing. Was not a good value at all. Thin and not best cut. He eats anything and wasnt happy.
The filet dish was ordered by two. It came with mushrooms, asparagus and potatoes. Fair price, serving was fair and tasted good. Both would reorder dish.
Special seared Ahi tuna. Good portion, but was seared a bit too long and not the best cut. Flavor was good.
Dessert.., ok here is the kicker. Birthday celebration. My son ordered a single scoop of ice cream. They prepared a plate with 3 scoops and scribed in chocolate happy birthday. Nice right? $$$ later.
The homemade peach cobbler/pie dessert was excellent.
Would I return, not for dinner or bday celebration. Appetizers and drinks, yes.
Good friend & staff was very accommodating when we needed an additional place setting. Will return!
Sat outside with our dog. Everyone supper nice and very accommodating. Always a nice experience
Met my friend for diner and was super happy with food (Addi's mussels always), service and drinks. Mid week dining room was half empty and we were able to have a conversation. Lovely!
Very enjoyable brunch. Food was excellent and fresh. One of our party had the buffet and it looked great. I had a la carte and it was delicious. It was very relaxing on a Sunday morning. Service was attentive but only there when you needed them.
My wife and I moved to Washington about three years ago. We eat out fairly often at least twice a month, and I can say without reservation that this was the most delicious meal we have had. We shared an order of fried calamari for a starter and then my wife had a Cesar salad and the mussels. I had the salmon. The salmon was cooked to order exactly as I requested, a little bit more than medium. The mussels are in a delicious broth and it had some spice to it. Some fresh bread comes along for dipping.
We opted to eat inside, because the outside bar scene was to our ears too noisy for a quiet meal with conversation. Inside it was not too crowded and there is plenty of space between tables.
The service was also excellent. The calamari came out quickly along with two kinds of bread and butter. Just a few minutes after we had finished the calamari our main courses came to the table piping hot.
We didn't have room for dessert, but we will definitely be back.
Food was great. Bar staff made delicious cocktails. Glad the restaurant is open late.
We had a party of 5 and everything was timed perfectly. The food was excellent. We were very pleased and will return!
Very good food although it is expensive. Only complaint was food came out quickly so we felt rushed and I felt like the serving size for the entree was too large.
The brunch and raw bar were both excellent in quality of food. The dessert buffet was pleasantly small, tiny samplers so you could try many different things without feeling you took too much! I would definitely return if I were in town on a Sunday morning again
The food was over salted and that took away from what could have been very good tasting food. The selection was good. The desert disappointed all around.
We were especially impressed by the berry salad and the phenomenal vegetable sides (mushrooms, cauliflower). My wife (who is very picky about steak) loved the strip steak and said it's one of the best steaks she's ever eaten at a restaurant. Pan-seared salmon was also delicious. We went for our anniversary and they made it feel like a special occasion.
The waiter was engaging and deferential to my Mother whose 85th birthday we were celebrating; the food was so good we did not do much doggy bagging (we usually do since we're small eaters); the parking was reasonably good despite being in Bethesda; the restrooms were clean and well appointed; Substitutions and other alterations to the our orders were not a problem. We will definitely return.
I went during restaurant week for lunch, so I was expecting the restaurant to be packed. It was crowded, but as soon as we had our table, it was fine. Everything was super fast and the service was great.
Absolutely delicious. Service was fantastic. We will definitely return.
A fabulous vibe. Service was terrific, as were the menu specials that night. We will be back.
We love this place!
Matt the waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly and a pleasure to work with. Always a great selection of menu items!
Updated wine list needed so don't select something not in stock. Very attentive service. Food tasted great. Sound level very good on a Monday.
Service was subpar for the superb quality of the food. The restaurant is very dark and not well insulated for sound. Go if you’re willing to eat an AMAZING meal in the dark and hail your waiter for service.
We went for lunch during restaurant week. Staff seemed a bit short-handed so service wasn't great. The seafood stew and corn chowder was good!
Happy to come back to the best brunch in the DC area!
Great food but a bit overpriced.
The drinks were strong and the food was very tasty.
Disappointed. Started off well. The server promptly took our orders and the food came out quickly. The biscuits tasted stale. I ordered the salmon and my spouse the scallops with a side of the wild mushrooms. We also ordered a cosmo and one of their mocktails. After the food came out the server only came once to ask if everything was good, we said yes. But shortly afterwards, we found a hair in the wild mushrooms, so we flagged him to let him know. After he took it away, he NEVER checked on us again. Didn’t offer more drinks and didn’t offer dessert. The busboy cleaned the table and we waited and waited...while the server walked by us at least 4 times. I would have actually ordered dessert had he offered but after waiting so long I was desperate to leave. We finally flagged him down again to ask for the check. I don’t plan on returning.
Made it apecial
I couldn’t resist and ordered the same entree as the last time I was here, seafood stew. The spices are perfect and so is the toast for dipping into that wonderful sauce.
They were out of the halibut which I love and the quality of the rest of the good was not good . My friend got sick after eating the Branzino and the tuna that I ordered was not good at all.
