Glad we came on the early side. As it filled up they were Clearly understaffed for the amount of customers. We got through our meal fine but then Sat for 25 minutes after being asked about dessert. Hostess finally came over and asked if we had decided on something but at this point we were ready to leave. Disappointing as we were celebrating a birthday.
Overall it was a great experience! We had reservations for 7:30 and we were out by 9pm which is when they closed on Wednesday. Probably would have stayed a little longer and it felt a little rushed for appetizer bottle of wine and dinner.. The oysters were delicious! The food was wonderful. The service was excellent.
Birthday dinner went smoothly. Service was a little slow, food was nothing special and pretty expensive. All in all decent, but nothing special.
Great food, as always. Everyone commented on the quality of their dishes. Service was excellent - our waiter was very attentive and available when we had questions. Safety was a priority - the server always wore a mask and seating was limited in order to maintain proper distance between parties.
Absolutely one of the best experiences I have had. Their 14oz steak was the best steak I have had in some time, definitely worth the $40
Everything was wonderful except when we arrived for our 7P reservation, we were informed that the kitchen was shutting @8P due to weather. While totally understandable, I wish I had been informed prior to each of us making substantial drives to celebrate my sister’s birthday.
It was good and patrons were spaced so it was COVID safe.
Enjoyed New Year’s Eve dinner at Black’s, with excellent food and service.
New Year’s Eve
Delicious food in a low-key unpretentious setting. Worth every penny of the premium - highly recommend the mussels for the best broth ever! Great calamari too. Will be back again soon.
Food was OK but nothing special. Quite a long wait until we got served - although the restaurant was nearly empty. This restaurant is nothing like as good as its sister restaurant - BlackSalt in DC.
Never heard of this place before. Had difficulty finding it. Really enjoyed it. Now we have a new place to go. It was terrific and delicious
Very good. Efficient service. Good food.
Excellent reliable food quality and good service. Will go again
Service was spectacular, the noise level was just fine, however the chicken was not tender, perhaps overcooked.
We had an early reservation, 5:45pm, as the restaurant was booked, after that until 8pm. There were 4 of us and we arrived on time for our table. The hostess was friendly but sat us next to a barrier that made us feel a bit cramped with the other couple with whom we had dinner. I considered asking for another table, as there were many open at that point, and we did have a reservation so there was a certain priority to us. Instead, as our friends arrived, I stayed put. The wait staff was attentive, prompt and the food was delicious. I was especially pleased with the wood grilled pork chop which was not something I would usually order. It was perfectly cooked and the grilled asparagus was delicious, and perfectly crunchy, too. I was happy with the local oysters and very pleased with the plate of duck nachos we shared too. Everyone had a delicious cocktail--the special offerings could have been more plentiful but I was able to modify my usual drink and the bartender did a great job. In sum, great meal at a decent price with an attentive wait staff. I recommend that early diners be given some choice of whether to sit near a wall or in a more open area as tables are clearly available at that time to do so. It makes the customer feel they are the priority they should be.
Haven't been to Black's in a while, and it was a great evening all around. Food and service very good.
Very good dining experience. Thought my tuna dish had too much salt but other wise was well prepared and presented.
Great customer service and food was good.
Dinner was good. The crab cake had some interesting flavor combinations (peanuts & fava beans)….quite tasty. I’d skip dessert….they weren’t great….seemed like they are Costco frozen.
We hadn’t been back to Black’s since the pandemic but we’re happy to see the food was just as good and the ambience remains very congenial. The only reason why I’ve marked down the review is that none of the serving staff were wearing masks. Nor was there any notice as to their vaccination status. I appreciate that some people don’t want to wear them but in most restaurants in the area serving staff do wear masks.
Great oysters, nice laid back spot
I can’t say enough about this place. We had a small issue, but Felix our incredible service and Talisa the manager stepped in and handled the situation flawlessly. They could not have done better. The food was AMAZING, try the scallop po boy or the chicken sandwich with bacon and guacamole, you won’t be disappointed. The calamari was a great start and the apple streusel pie was an outstanding final. Visit this place and you will be amazed!!
Great! Staff was nice, drinks were reasonable, food was mediocre. Overall a good happy hour spot.
Excellent as usual. Highly recommend the Steak Frites!
So happy to be back. We had gotten takeout a few times but this was our first visit in person since covid. Black's is one of my favorite places in Bethesda. The food is always great - we had the rockfish special and the tuba soba. Creative cocktails and a nice wine list, including good choices by the glass, round out the meal. Hard to tell if they have spaced out the tables, but conversation was easy. Only drawback for us was that the squash soup was made with chicken stock. We'll be back again soon.
Good restaurant that serves excellent seafood dishes. Service was attentive and fast considering it was a crowded Sat. evening.
Many visits prepandemic. Now we find no less service and quality. Food fresh and abundant. No skimping on amount or service.
Found the appetizer of taco mushy and too much mayo.
But main dishes of seafood well prepared and plenty to eat.
Seafood stew a bit spicier than I prefer, but otherwise great.
I will continue to recommend the venue.
2nd visit food was as good as I remembered. The service was good but at times our server was no where to be found. Particularly when Leaving that was a long process getting our check, getting to go boxes, getting some one to pick up credit card and return it probably took 10m-15 minutes that’s way too long
The staff were very nice. I ordered the scallops - and they tasted like someone spilled the salt shaker on them! So salty - they were hard to eat. For the price - I would have hoped for more.
Came here for a work lunch. The food was excellent, and the service was attentive without being intrusive.
We have eaten at Blacks many times and really like it. However, we were disappointed with the inattentive service we received during this visit. The waiter had a large table near us that took alot of his time, and he seemed to forget about us for the first half of our stay. He did up his game at the end, but it was still a bit disappointing to be ignored in a restaurant with those prices.
Convenient location and ambience. Lots of space between diners, which is rare for the area! Excellent service and a great meal.
Smoke from wood oven was a little overwhelming. Felt a bit uncomfortable. Bar tender/server was great. Knowledgeable Desert was fair. Coffee ok. Nice visit but no reason to come back especially with the smoke.
Wonderful service and food! Noise from across the street is loud.
We started with great small oysters and followed it with scallops and steak and the dessert of the day with homemade strawberry ice cream on top. The drinks were good and the service by the server and his assistant was wonderful
We only live a mile or so from Black's Bar &n Kitchen. So we have been many times for dinner or happy hour/appetizers. This restaurant never disappoints. The food and the service are always exceptional. Last night our party enjoyed the salad of the day (grapefruit and avocado), oysters, the steak, and the seafood stew. All dishes were great. Highest recommendation.
seafood was excellent - oysters raw and Rockefeller, Branzino, Seafood stew
Cocktails were creative!
Disappointed cornbread and chocolate chip banana pudding were both very dry and over cooked
Good food, great and very prompt service! I’ll be back later this week!
