Came here for a work lunch. The food was excellent, and the service was attentive without being intrusive.
We have eaten at Blacks many times and really like it. However, we were disappointed with the inattentive service we received during this visit. The waiter had a large table near us that took alot of his time, and he seemed to forget about us for the first half of our stay. He did up his game at the end, but it was still a bit disappointing to be ignored in a restaurant with those prices.
Convenient location and ambience. Lots of space between diners, which is rare for the area! Excellent service and a great meal.
Smoke from wood oven was a little overwhelming. Felt a bit uncomfortable. Bar tender/server was great. Knowledgeable Desert was fair. Coffee ok. Nice visit but no reason to come back especially with the smoke.
Wonderful service and food! Noise from across the street is loud.
We started with great small oysters and followed it with scallops and steak and the dessert of the day with homemade strawberry ice cream on top. The drinks were good and the service by the server and his assistant was wonderful
We only live a mile or so from Black's Bar &n Kitchen. So we have been many times for dinner or happy hour/appetizers. This restaurant never disappoints. The food and the service are always exceptional. Last night our party enjoyed the salad of the day (grapefruit and avocado), oysters, the steak, and the seafood stew. All dishes were great. Highest recommendation.
seafood was excellent - oysters raw and Rockefeller, Branzino, Seafood stew
Cocktails were creative!
Disappointed cornbread and chocolate chip banana pudding were both very dry and over cooked
Good food, great and very prompt service! I’ll be back later this week!
Excellent food, wine, and service. One of our fave restaurants.
Good food, but such an unfortunate experience. We’d requested an outside table. When we arrived for our 6 p m res, we were told there were no outside tables available for us. Yet we saw vacant tables set for 2. When I asked why we couldn’t move 2 vacant tables together, I was first told it was a fire hazard, & the tables couldn’t be moved from where they were. Then I was told there were more reservations for 2-tops than 4-tops. When I reminded him that outside tables were first come, first served, he got huffy. I asked to speak to the manager….lo and behold, before the manager came, 2 tables were moved together for us. The rest of the dining experience went OK, but it didn’t have to start out the way it did.
Delicious homemade desserts! Good choice menu from seafood to steak. Nice bar/cafe and patio, in addition to a dining room for a more formal setting.
The food tasted good, but my husband had the salmon and was violently ill a few hours later.
I frequently dine with the Black’s group of restaurants, including this one. This was a low point. After waiting 45 minutes for an outdoor table, in large part because the restaurant staff did not want to hurry along diners who had finished, we were treated to slow rude and then brusque service. Our Waitress did not take our drink orders for 15 minutes despite coming to the table twice. The drinks came another 20 minutes later. By this time, 945, our waitress and the staff were in a hurry to leave. Questions about the menu were treated curtly and dismissively. Our waitress disappeared at one point and didn’t come back leaving delivery of dessert and the check to other staff members. Tables were being folded up and put away while we were dining. A wait for an outdoor table is unavoidable these days, but if you’re going to seat your diners they should be treated with courtesy and if you were in a hurry to get them out the door, service should be prompt. The restaurant was not full, the staff was just inattentive. I’ll continue to dine with the Black’s group of restaurants, but not this one.
Did not open the outdoor patio for lunch 2 hours after a rainstorm and with no rain in the forecast. Host was incredulous that patrons would ask to sit outdoors. Outdoor seating was the only reason I chose this restaurant, you have to prioritize this in a pandemic.
Very please by courtesy and promptness of the waitstaff, and their knowledge of the menu and how dishes are prepared. Very pleased, all around.
The food and service were excellent. We sat in the bar area and it was noisy
We had an early dinner in the bar and the staff and other patrons were friendly, service was good and the food was tasty.
Outdoor seating was okay, but we had a table in the corner and it was a bit smelly from the sewers….
Service by poor… inattentive, charged wrong wine on the final bill.
Not what I expected and experienced before at Black Restaurants….
Will try Black market Bistro and Hope it will not also a little but disappointing.
Calamari appetizer is outstanding, and my guest thoroughly enjoyed his seafood stew
The food was perfect the staff was great enjoyed it very much
We are fans of the Black restaurant group, they have several restaurants in the DC metro area, offering distinct American cuisine. This was our first time back at Black’s Bar & Kitchen (Bethesda) in more than a year. The food was very good, enjoyed the gazpacho, pan seared scallops and the mediterranean branzino filet. However, service was challenging (hence my rating), but not surprising given the difficulties restaurants are having with personnel in the COVID era. We sat in a high-top table next to the open doors to the outside seating area, and for some reason, there were a lot of mosquitoes, both of us got bitten around the legs. The table next to ours was also talking about the mosquitoes. Hope the restaurant’s management reads this and takes the necessary steps to mitigate the mosquito problem.
Blacks remains consistent. This was my first visit in a few years and it hasn't missed a beat. Really good food and service.
The service was very poor with long waits for a steak and some fish. The food itself was below expectations. We sat outside where the Marriott building has now ruined the view. Far fall from previous meals there.
Fabulous. A little loud and ac isn’t the best, but food and service and Ambiance (large bar area for casual dining, and outdoor patio , and a dining room too) are terrific! My fav neighborhood spot. Pricey, but quality!
The four of us had a wonderful lunch- very tasty PoBoy sandwiches and other seafood. Excellent service and attentiveness.
Fantastic meal and service
The food was fine, as was the service Howevr, we were seated outside and were subjected to EARSPLITTING noise from trucks, including one that took ten or twenty minutes to load a huge garbage container.
Have you considered closing the outside eating area during the lunch period, rather than leaving coustomers with a bad impression.

Nice but not exceptional. The decor needs an upgrade. Staff was perfunctory.
Delicious meals and comfortable environment to celebrate a private event with friends! Addie's Mussels are the best!
Great food and easy access in downtown Bethesda. Servers were attentive but not bothersome. A bit pricey, but I knew that before making the reservation.
Very knowledgeable bartender but I didn’t enjoy the food.
The weather was perfect, we ate outside and our waiter Victor was very helpful!
Great food. Better than expected. Scallops were excellent. Desert choices are sparse.
Wonderful! Great servers! Noise was not restaurants fault. We sat outside and there was construction.
We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary- our waiter was fabulous- the food was over the top! From the oyster Rockefeller to the gazpacho to the branzino- just superb!!!
I ordered the scallops, and they were cooked perfectly. The calamari was delicious also.
Very fresh seafood. I had the fried oysters and spinach salad. Also had the fried calamari as an appetizer. My guest had the scallops with mashed potatoes and spinach. Lovely presentation. Sorry …we were so hungry that we forgot to snap pics 😂
very much enjoyed the evening and the food was delicious
Very good restaurant with a nice menu. Food was good and well prepared. Enjoyed the experience.
