We came for a late Sunday Brunch. It was oddly quiet and the dining room didn't seem very busy. The food was fine but the menu was little limited. Might be better for dinner but had no vibe for brunch
Excellent food. Service was a bit slow but it was a Saturday night and busy.
Went to dinner with friends and the food was fantastic. Will definitely go back.
Was going to order the scallops, got talked into the Shrimp Po'Boy, and I was kind of disappointed, did not think the flavor was awesome or anything to right home from. I love Avocado, instead of Avocado Aoli it would have been better with straight Avocado on it. Just thought is was bland. Felt like I mis-ordered.
Blacks is my go to restaurant for business meetings and for friendly gatherings. The food is always excellent and the help is friendly and efficient.
Keep up the good work.
My scallops were overcooked. Otherwise, everything else was excellent, and the service was very good.
Excellent service. Food was creative and delicious
Nice lunch meeting. Accomodating server. asdfjkl;
Quite possibly the best restaurant in Bethesda.
Menu too similar to Addies which has same owners. Had been to Addies about 2 weeks earlier. Won't venture back to either for quite awhile. Wondering if Black Market Bistro has simialr
Excellent dinner. The staff accommodated our increase in the reservation from 6 to 12 without a hassle. Excellent service. Thanks!
Somewhat disappointed in the food. PEI mussels and pan-seared scallops were excellent but rockfish in a lot of liquid and fried apple tart for dessert were sub-par.
We had, as we always do, a lovely time for my husband's birthday. He had the scallops (with whipped potatoes and chard) and I had the swordfish (with a lentil-vegetable mixture). I had a very nice Gruner Vertliner to go with my meal. This is a white-linen sit-down meal that makes an occasion special, and we enjoyed it very much.
The price per entree is very high for the quality. I ordered the tuna rare but it was over cooked and had very little taste.
Our server was polite and nice but very inattentive. He rarely stopped by our table after taking our orders, which I actually don’t particularly mind, but he was very slow removing our finished plates and left us waiting a ridiculously long time for the bill. Food was quite good though.
The cocktails were ok, wine list was very good, dinner was ok. I had the special scallops, and while all of the separate pieces were good, they didn't blend together really. Carrots and scallops didn't hit it out of the park, the scallops were excellently cooked! The dessert was far and away the best part of the meal. Excellent pastry chef!
Great wine list with a somewhat limited food menu. Surprisingly expensive steaks compared to portion size. Good fish. Service was spotty. Ambience very ordinary.
Nice restaurant, but the food was just average considering the price we paid. The scallops were very good, the rockfish was okay and the side of brussel sprouts were disappointing. For two dishes, one side and two glasses of water (no alcoholic drinks) the bill, with a nice tip was over $100. We just expected better food for that price.
1. Venerable restaurant that only seems to get better every time we go there.
2. A large group celebrating something with severable babies in tow caused us to move from the adjacent table. The place was nearly empty when we arrived with a 6:00 reservation, so I don't understand why they seated us there in the first place.
3. The "greeting and seating" staff was very unprofessional in dress and demeanor.
4. But the food and service overcame #s 2 and 3.
We all enjoyed each other’s food very much.
Our seats were prepared upon arrival and the host was able to accommodate a minor plus one change. We had several guest that had suitcases and there was a closet to check their bags which was very convenient. Our reservation was during the busy lunch our and we were a party of 8 but we weren't overly cramped at our table nor sitting on top of other guests in the restaurant. While the noise level was moderate, we were able to have a pleasant business conversation without shouting.
The server was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable of the dishes. There are pre-fixe lunch courses and lots of options for vegetarians, dieters, and gluttons alike! The pork stew with tortilla topping was spicy and delicious. There was another option that looked like a butternut squash that was billed to be on the sweeter side. My comrades seem to really enjoy it since we all sent back empty bowls. The Avocado and French Green Bean Salad I chose to top with the grilled squid tossed in a spicy chimichurri sauce was enough to share. My partner raved about the Cubano Sandwich.
This is a great lunch spot because the food is awesome, the service is impeccable and the price point is reasonable given the area for a business lunch.
Excellent service, varied menu, outstanding food and interesting drink menu. Definitely recommend!
I booked Blacks, having had great experiences there in the past. Perhaps it was an off-night, but the service was notably slow (our waiter changed, and it seems our orders got lost.) Drink orders were mixed up, and the food was not up to the usual standards.
We started out at the bar; service was fast and friendly. Drinks were generous and very tasty. In the dining room we ordered oysters and they were top quality. Mussels were delicious. I had the duck entree and it was outstanding. We were too full for dessert, but I will definitely save room next time we visit. A great experience overall.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Food and service are consistently superb.
Very good lunch!
Extremely inattentive and slow service
It was not worth the cost. We each had the whole bronzini. It was very thin and dry. $36 and that was just the fish by itself. Brocolli was dried out and old.
The restaurant was great! Had a business dinner and the noise level was perfect to have discussions without yelling. The service was attentive but not intrusive and the food was excellent, from appetizers to desert. A good wine list added extra value.
Loved the bronzini whole fish and delicious variety of fresh oysters.
Wait staff and front staff was very nice. This was my third time there
with my wife and won't be my last!
We love blacks for Happy hour, we're locals. The service is normally fantastic and the cost of the meals don’t alarm u bc your treated like an upscale customer. We went for Valentine's Day and were unimpressed. They allowed young children after 7 pm; kids were running around, loud. There wasn’t a special for Valentine’s Day. Other local restaurants provide complimentary champagne or red rose. It felt like a regular mid-week night- nothing festive or special. I was surprised how many families they accommodated for an upscale romantic night, expensive menu night.
Wonderful food and service. I was astonished with how many options there were besides seafood. Wonderful date night.
We had received a gift card for the Black Market Group. We chose the Black's Bar and Kitchen because the menu included both meat and seafood. All of the dishes were superb and the service was both pleasant and efficient.
Great evening. Salads delicious. German chocolate cake over the top.
Food was good. I love oysters so that is a plus. Entrees varied a little. Rockfish was very good. Duck was so-so. Nice place. Parking near by which is helpful.
Our family wanted a seafood dinner and heard Blacks was good.
It lived up to our expectations.
It was nice to see they had a children’s menu.
The food is a little pricey but very good.
Overpriced and need of changing the menu. Not a lot of options for vegans and vegetarians.
This place is now nothing more than "faded glory!" The food is sub-par, way over priced and the waiter (mine) was not interested in being at work. Avoid!
Went for open raw seafood bar on a Sunday morning. It wasn't too crowded. Service was excellent. The raw bar had much better quality than I expected for all-you-can-eat. The oysters, in particular, were surprisingly good considering we were able to help ourselves to plate after plate of them! Endless brunch cocktails were very good too and were a little more creative than the orange mimosas you'd expect.
