Nice dinner out. Service from Nicole was perfect and the food so tasty. I had my favorite which was the fish and chips and husband had the flat bread pizza I think it was called. Got to meet the very nice new manager too.
Waitress was absolutely wonderful and accommodating. Servers were polite and efficient.
Food was great. Fun evening for a family of 4 and teenage guest.
Mussels were AMAZING. Beer battered fries have the perfect consistency. Ribs were just tender enough to fall off the bone, with great texture. Not too mushy.
When we arrived the restaurant was quiet. We enjoyed a drink and a delicious dinner. Dessert was fabulous.
Our server was friendly and sensitive to our needs.
I need to give this another chance. We went on Mother's Day not realizing that it was a buffet. It was pretty good, but definitely not for the cost of the meal. They really need to reevaluate their price. I'd like to go back and be able to order off the menu to really get the full experience.
Restaurant had a buffet dinner for Mother's Day but did not tell me this when I made reservations. Not sure if they have done buffets before but would appear not as the meal was not up to their usual great service/food. Buffet tables had spilt food on tables (looked like did not clean up behind messy patrons) and ran out of dinner plates and dessert plates with no one replenishing them without having to ask for a plate. Salad table was messy. Scalloped potatoes did not look appetizing; looked like sitting in oil. Food was tasty with good choice but not visually appealing.
Not good for Mother's Day buffet dinner. There was no mention on Open Table that it was a buffet. Expensive. Coffee and tea not included (normally would be with a buffet). Waiter talked us into the "bottomless mimosas" only to find out that they were not included (again, normally would be in a holiday buffet). So we basically paid $40 for 1 mimosa each. If that was the case they should have just charged us for the single mimosas. Food quality was the equivalent of a 3-star hotel wedding buffet. With tip, we paid $200 for two people to have a bad meal. Very disappointing.
We have been going to Blackhawk Grille for Mother’s Day brunch for years. Last couple of years the quality of the food has been going down. This year was the worst. Limited selection in food items and other than made to order omelet rest of the food was Denny’s quality. Definitely not worth $55. They even charged $4.75 for a cup of hot tea. In previous years, mimosa was came with the fixed price. This year $20. Ridiculous! Add to that tired wait staff who kept forgetting what you asked- $180 is a pretty stiff price to pay.
Food for Mother’s day buffet was good. Disappointed to be charged for coffee and juice. Usually buffets even include alcohol.
We had reservations but arrived 1/2 hour early so we were seated for cocktails outside while waiting. Waiter came to take our drink order but it was cold so we asked him for a heater. He said ok but never came back. There was an unused heater within sight. After 15 minutes we got up and went inside to see if our table was ready.
Service was the slowest I’ve ever experienced. Waiter had to ask twice to be reminded which wine we ordered and still brought the wrong one. He took my daughter’s order, skipped past me to my son and his girlfriend, then my husband, then came back to me which I thought was odd and rude.
A nice experience with my family, good food, but terrible service!
My eggplant entre was like leather. Noise so loud you couldn't carry on a conversation. The time between the end of our meal and getting our check was way too long. Could not find our waiter and had to summon another waitress. Not going back. On the flip side, ALL the staff was friendly and they seated us promptly but based on the value of the dinner for five, it was not a good experience.
Decidedly mixed experience. The food was variable in quality. Some a bit better than average pub food, some worse, and some just strange. (For instance, who has heard of “Manhattan Style Clam Chowder” with *no* vegetables, none, and seasoned predominantly with red pepper?) And the place is expensive. Notwithstanding their attempts to bring the food upscale, and the higher-end decor, it’s basically like going to Chili’s at almost twice the cost.
The bar menu is the best. I wish you could get it on the patio.
Good for business dinner. Meal was quite good ...scallops lovely. Wine list quite pricey even by the glass.
We have been patrons of BHG for several years.
Not sure what has happened at this establishment. Change of ownership? Change of management? Change of chef? Maybe all of the above.
There were very few patrons in the restaurant at what should have been a busy time - perhaps a sign that things aren’t as they should be.
I am not in the hospitality business, but the place always seems overstaffed...yet inefficient. Baffling.
Our server was definitely not on her game Saturday night. Took a long time to get our drinks even though she only had a couple tables. While placing the order, we specifically said to pace out our courses, but the mains appeared 5 minutes after the hors d’oeuvre anyway. She saw the mistake (solely hers for not staggering) and instead of taking the mains back, she asked how the food was. What the heck? Nobody wants to be jammed up or rushed while you are dining.
Food: We started with the sizzling shrimp appetizer which was decent, though it no longer comes with the toasted bread to soak up all the yummy juices. The complimentary and oh-so addicting housemaid chips are also no longer offered.
My chicken caesar was average at best. Expected fresh, shaved parmesan, but got what tasted like grated canned cheese and boxed croutons. Chicken was bland and flavorless, and cubed way too small. My husband said his burger was good and the fries were extra tasty.
Overall, I’m not sure we will be back. Certainly no bargain, and with mediocre food and poor service..why would we?
Easter Brunch was phenomenal from the service to the food! Absolutely amazing!!!
We loved our Easter brunch buffett
New chef and food is better! They left out the potato chips and now serve them only in the bar.
Great waitress and excellent wine choices. The meal was fabulous and our only complaint was the noise. But we continue to return because the food is so good.
I stopped going here because the quality was not there anymore, especially for the prices. Richard Villareal is the new manager and is slowly turning things around. I had the halibut, the daily special. The food was really good but the fish was a little over cooked. Otherwise, a terrific place to go again.
We've dined here for brunch numerous times. However, this past Sunday was not pleasant. he hostess seated us promptly. We purposefully wanted to be seated because a coughing lady was trying to get seating for her family. I mentioned to the hostess that we did not want to share her space because of the uncovered -coughing lady's habit (not covering her mouth). Well, low & behold, the hostess brings the large obnoxious coughing family and seats them right next to us!!! How RUDE!!! Not only did the lady constantly cough but so did the unruly kids who kept playing all over the back of my chair. The kids' mom watched but said nothing. Finally, my husband said, "Hey, heyyy" & they moved. Nonetheless, our server was nice. It took a while for our meal to arrive. While waiting, I noticed fish w/ a salad under the heating lamp, It stayed there for 12 minutes and then was served to me. I asked the manager, who served our meal, if this was ready for 12 minutes? He stated that it was just put there but for me to try it. The fish was cold, so he took the dish & returned with fresh fish, re-tossed Ceasar salad and REFRIED french fries. Our server noticed and immediately got fresh french fries. The collection of events turned what should have been a nice meal into a disaster...Thanks for nothing Black Hawk!
This is under new management and I am glad. It has all the makings for a great destination. I had the chicken breast and it was fabulous. Tea is still a bit watery but at least this time there was flavor to it! It is worth your trying it again.
We had a lovely lunch, outside on the patio. Great service, darling waitress, delicious lunch.
Can't wait to go back
So disappointed with the evolution of this restaurant :-( This used to be a favorite place, the space is gorgeous and the pond make it a lovely place to eat. However, the food is just not that great. The servers are sweet but not very good at their jobs. And what happened to the signature house-made chips on the table?!??! WOW what a loss.
Took over 10 minutes to get my first beer. Took over 15 minutes to get my 2nd beer. At least I had a little food left when they brought it. Almost no one there don't know how it took so long to get anything. Server seemed fine and was apologetic, so have to assume the bar was the problem. But 2nd time there and had problems the 1st time too. I wouldn't have gone here but groom picked the place.
Wonderful evening celebrating 3 birthdays and St. Patrick’s day! Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Lovely window table...great evening.
An upscale restaurant with great ambience! Wouldn't take younger and active kids there. Great for couples, girls night out or date nights!
Great food; my steak was one of the best I've ever had, service was perfect (there when you need them, gone when you don't). A little noisy, but that's not the restaurants fault (there was a little girl having a birthday dinner at the table next to us. Well behaved, just a kid).
We had the best experience. Took my parents there for their anniversary/dad's birthday. Food was delicious & our waitess Nicole was superb. Best night!
Nicole was our go to server and all great. The cook did a wonderful job with Brussels sprouts appetizer, pork chop, and also the chicken dish very nice. And a wonderful fruit cobbler for dessert!
Place is fancy but overpriced considering how the food tastes. Steak burgers were dry, mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a KFC, and the flourless cake tasted like a giant cavity (so bitter and too chocolately). We were sat in the booths next to the kitchen and there should be a higher wall next to the booths, as there is a lot of foot traffic. Bussers/waiters/waitresses/chefs were constantly talking loudly about things that shouldn't be talked about at work or should be talked about with a lower voice. I regret spending the amount of money I did for tasteless food and for the atmosphere.
I love this place although is not consistent. Sometimes is wonderful and sometimes it’s just ok borderline bad. The other night I took a guest and it was not on a good night. Even the dessert was just ok.
The service here is superb. Very responsive to our needs ( fast service and birthday celebration). So kudos to the staff!
Our quibbles were that the burger seemed like it was made of the "pink slime' we hear about. I would not order it again.
The sound level in the room was painful- large group near the big windows. I would ask to sit in another area next time. Based on the terrific staff, I would try this venue for dinner next time in the interior space.
Loved it ....until a group of noisy kids ,10 of them and parents showed up on a Saturday nite at 7pm !!
Nice place for a meal in an area with a more limited number of choices. Service was good, but the restaurant was definitely understaffed with regards to table servers. Not the fault of our waitress, who did well - but something for management to work on.
Food solid, albeit perhaps a bit on the pricey side.
Blackhawk Grill has certainly up’ed their game. We’ve dined there several times over the past five years, but it has now become a “go to” restaurant for us and we dine there several times a month now.
The food quality has certainly improved and the “attitude” much more customer focused. Definitely recommend reservations as their popularity is increasing. I’m sure we are not the only ones who have noticed their improvement overall. Finally, we have to give a shout-out to Shelly who is absolutely attention-to-detail oriented. She takes the time to “learn” her customer and makes you feel as if you are her only table.
Keep it up Blackhawk Gill! 👍😃⚓️
Great atmosphere. Lovely place at night. Food is spectacular and tasted great. Service was a little slow.
Our lunch experience was outstanding. The service and the food was "over the top". Very enjoyable afternoon.
As always a delightful dining experience. Good food, good service and nice upscale atmosphere.
Will was very helpful. From when I made reservations to when we left. My wife and I are new to the area and we love having a go to restaurant and bar and this was definitely what we were looking for. The staff was amazing and will even let me store flowers and balloons for my surprise valentine day dinner for my wife and set me up with the best seat in the house. Absolutely amazing and professional environment. Couldn’t of asked for a better experience.
