Blackhawk Grille Ratings and Reviews
Two of us opted for the pizza since it got rave reviews on Foursquare, but ours was soggy in the middle and burnt around the edges. The reuben sandwich was also served on soggy bread. My husband's pork shank was outstanding! We were celebrating my husband's birthday so it was a bit disappointing for a birthday experience.
Had not been to BH Grille for a while. Disappointed because expected the food and atmosphere to be like before. Did not know they had substantially changed the atmosphere and menu to a casual atmosphere and everyday food. Just expected the high class cuisine they used to serve. All was just okay.
Yes, we would recommend it but with some big caveats.
This was our first visit since the re-opening. The food was excellent, but the service was poor. Long waits between server visits, water glasses left empty, table not cleared properly after the entree's (we really didn't want potato chips with dessert), order for a side dish not delivered. The noise level was excruciatingly loud, making any conversation impossible without speaking very loudly.
We will try again for lunch but have crossed it off as a dinner choice. That's too bad because we are Blackhawk residents and were looking forward to renewing dinner time at one of our favorite local restaurants.
We hadn't been to Blackhawk Grille since they reopened and I can tell you it was worth the wait!! The new menu and renovated restaurant, bar, patio are amazing!! We had a wonderful time and the service was spectacular! We're definitely putting Blackhawk Grille back on our 'regular' list of restaurants.
It was a lovely way to treat a friend to lunch on her birthday. However, I left a note on the OpenTable site to say it was her birthday and they did not seem to know or do anything about it. This has happened other times when I've left a message on OpenTable.
Our first two experiences here were horrible. It's been two years since we've been back and we heard from neighbors that it was getting better and they were right. The restaurant seemed to have a different feel to it. Very open, very bright and nice energy. We had New York steak (excellent), Chopped Salad (very good) and the Ribs and Artichoke appetizers (very good) as a meal. Desert was also vey good (chocolate mousse cake with peanut butter ice cream, and cherry cobbler cheesecake and sorbet) The homemade potatoe chips on the table instead of bread is also a nice touch. The only recommendation would be replacing the Voss water with San Pellegrino. A fine dining restaurant should have a fine dining water.
We used to love the Blackhawk Grille and were very excited for the new look but the food wasn't anything special and although our waitress was very sweet she wasn't very good and the bus boys had no idea what to do other than just clear plates.
The new look is great so if the food and service can improve we would try again or at least hit the bar for a burger.
Nice, casual restaurant; outdoor dining was pleasant; scenic water view & great music selection playing.
Food was pretty good except for grilled meatloaf sandwich; very dry, thin pc. of meatloaf; terrible. And service was awful.
Waiter never brought bread that was asked for with soup, although he said "no problem". He also apologized 3 times for forgetting a request to refill water and proceeded to forget 3 times. Never got that glass of water. Too bad; could be a nice place to go if they could get it together!
Have been a long time fan of Blackhawk Grille. Like the new changes, especially the new bar. Met and talked with Patrick, Nick our server, and the new chef Jason. All were enthusiastic about the changes, concept and food. Would definitely recommend and return with friends. Why can't there be restaurants like this in downtown Pleasanton!
We has a reservation or a large group and when we arrived the table was not set up and had to wait 15 minutes. The restaurant was about 10% capacity. The food was above average and believe the bar had a better scene and atmosphere. Service should have been more prompt considering the lack of guests.
We live in Danville and have frequented the Blackhawk Grill for years. But this was our first visit since the remodel and new menu. We were impressed. The menu was interesting; lots of things that sounded great. Our meals were delicious. There were four of us and we all had different entrees. Everyone practically licked the plate. We shared one bread pudding for dessert. One of the best I've ever eaten; and I love bread pudding. We will try the bar on our next visit. It was hopping up until the time we left around 10:00. There is a new outdoor fireplace off the bar that looks inviting.
Our Saturday evening dining experience was a total disaster. The noise level was two decibels beyond deafening, the service staff seemed clumsy and clueless, and the kitchen staff were intent on masking their poor culinary skills with salt. The entrees were pricey and pathetic -- ranging from tough dry fish, tasteless dry pork, and over-cooked vegetables. Even the kiddies food lacked flavor. Embarrassingly, on a poor day, McDonalds serves better chicken fingers! The new owners should rename this once fine restaurant "The Salt-Lick Grille."
The renovated BHG was done well. It has outdoor sections where you can sit on couches, and firepits. The new bar area is like an upscale sports bar, separated from the restaurant. The restaurant is about the same. Their beef fondue ($15)is still great, but it use to have more broccollini and beef pieces and thicker fondue. Their mussels plate ($13)was abundant, served steamy hot! Their burger($10 w/ 1 topping choice)& shoestring fries was very good. We were able to choose from a special wine list which were half price. Great ambiance, indoor or outdoor.
I took my wife and daughter to Blackhawk Grille on a Sunday Evening (9/23). The service was outstanding, all 3 of our entrees were excellent, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. We had the meatloaf, open face BBQ pork sandwich, and the Chicken Picatta. It feels like a very classy, but casual restaurant.
We were a party of 4 on Sunday night. The new renovation is lovely. We sat in the main dining room. There weren't that many people there and we waited nearly an hour before our roasted mussels came out. Our main orders were also extremely slow to come out that evening. Food was very good once we got it. My overall impression was that Blackhawk Grille has become more casual (no tablecloths), and the menu has changed and is less expensive.
Although my ratings are on the low side, I would give Blackhawk Grille another chance. I have been there several times before they remodeled and enjoyed my experience. However, this time our table was next to the service station which was not pleasant! I forgot to request a table outside when I made my reservations which probably would have made the experience better. The food, to my shock, was not good! I had Mahi Mahi and it was ok, but not great. The bean puree and greens that the fish sat on top of were SO SALTY they were not eatable. What's going on?
This was our first time here. I did not know the plaza was so big and so well kept. I was looking to sit outside. Great outdoor seating. Food was OK. nothing to rave about. Pork sandwich was dry. The loaded baked potato was loaded with broccoli. It did not say that on the menu and that is not normal. My husband HATES broccoli. So he told the waitress thats not what he thought a loaded potato was and it did not say on the menu. He asked for something else. She still charged us for it. The mac and cheese was shells and I don't know what else. Dry and no cheese. When she asked about that he said it was ok. But both sides were pretty much untouched. I had the special (scallops) they were good. Food was luke warm at best. Not impressed.
Our experience at the Blackhawk Grill was excellent. We were entertaining guests from Hawaii, and they were very impressed. Although we had to change the time of our reservation as they were late, (and the restaurant was very crowded and busy), the table I requested was ready and we were seated immediately. We each ordered something different and everyone enjoyed their meal. Even pleased a fussy teen ager. Very noisy -- it was Friday night -- but a happy noise that did not preclude conversation at our table. I would certainly recommend the Grille.
We ate dinner outside by the fire pit. The server and hostess were most accommodating. We were not rushed. Dinner was delicious. We left via the main portion of the restaurant. It was very noisy; we were happy we were able to dine alfresco. It was much more relaxing!!!!
I was celebrating my birthday. Went online and booked a table for lunch with a note that I would like an outside table by the water. We walked in, gave my name, and the hostess took us right outside to a lovely table next to the water. We both had salads which were outstanding. Great place!
This use to be a great place. The remodel looks great, but service has suffered greatly. We gave it a few chances, but we encountered excrutiatingly slow service (from the kitchen mostly) that also often got orders wrong. Most annoying was the last time we were there, they had the audacity to tell us that our dinner still hadn't come out in over an hour was that they let too many people in... Who's fault is that, if they can't handle the capacity don't fill the place up. When the food finally came out it was stone cold, not a good way to eat a burger.
One thing I must say is that our servers were certainly not to blame. They got some serious logistical problems at this place, too bad we would go here once a week until now.
New ownership has ruined the restaurant. Food was inedible. The crab cakes had so much filler you could not tase the crab, an they turned into crumbs when you touched with a fork. I was stunned when the fondue came out. Even thought I was hungry I could not eat it. The cheese sauce was watery and would barely cling to the vegetable when dipped, and the taste was strange. The small toast that came with it was stone cold, tough and tasted old. The place was almost empty on a Saturday night so I guess others agree, I have been going to Blackhawk Grille for years and used to love it. I'll never go again unless it for a glass ow wine that the chef can't mess up. Our waiter was excellent. He said new owners did not care about customer complaints.
