Blackfriars afternoon tea includes homemade sandwiches and pastries, freshly made scones and cakes along with a cup of tea/coffee. Afternoon Tea is served Friday and Saturday between 2.45-4.30pm and must be reserved and pre-paid at least 24 hours in advance. Please contact us directly if you have a voucher to use. We’re happy to offer gluten-free and vegetarian options with 48 hours’ notice. However, due to the nature of our menu, we’re unable to accommodate other dietaries, dietary requirements or substitutions. Afternoon Tea may be served in our King's Suite, which is located on the first floor. If you require a more accessible table, please get in touch to let us know.

Bored with the usual places to go for lunch? Don’t fancy another sandwich on the go? Join us at Blackfriars Cookery School for more dynamic lunch with our 1-hour Express cookery classes. You will learn to make a classic street food dish that can take you to the streets of Bangkok or Mumbai and back, prepared at your very own individual workstation. Each class focuses on a particular street food, giving the chance to explore new and authentic ingredients in just one hour! This workshop looks at the pre Spanish invasion Mexican street food: taco’s. Made with either corn or flour tortillas and a multitude of fillings, this taco workshop will delight your taste buds with a spicy tingle and citrus burst. Learn to make the classic corn tortilla and traditional Mexican fillings for a sure fire lunch time treat. Once the cooking is over you can sit, with a beer or glass of fizz, and consume your handiwork. These courses are designed to be relaxed, informative and fun.

The Water of Life’ was the name given to whisky by monks in the middle ages but this introduction to Scotland’s famous export is bang up-to-date. Enjoy a selection of whiskies from both Robert the Bruce’s homeland as well as a few curveballs from far-flung distilleries around the world. Learn how to decipher a label to give you a better understanding of what’s inside the bottle, the basics of how whisky is made, Scotland’s main regions, it’s fascinating history and of course why your wee dram tastes the way it does!
