Very cold where we were sitting, the waiter was awesome!
Loved the food and atmosphere. Great and friendly service. Perfect place for a date night
Food was decent but my walleye was under seasoned. Atmosphere was top notch.
Joanne was a wonderful server. Our food was delicious and tasty.
Consistently good food and service. Party of 8 and everyone was pleased with their menu selections and the service.
Had my wedding reception at Blackwoods Duluth. Everything was perfect!
My Old Fashioned was not adequate especially for the price. Could hardly taste the liquor. My Walleye (boundary waters) was ok but nothing special. Service was friendly and good.
The walleye we ordered was a hybrid fish. It didn't taste like walleye and was overcooked. A restaurant shouldn't advertise walleye if it's 1/2 farm raised walleye and 1/2 saugeye. That's false advertisement, because it's not truly wild walleye. Three of us ordered walleye and we were all disappointed. My son ordered hamburger, and the bun was hard as a rock and the meat was brown/black. I will never go back there again. The ambiance was good, and so was the service, but the food not so much.
wonderful experience, we called hour before our reservation to add 2 more, and you were very accommodating. Thank you for the wonderful time and food. our server, while I don't remember her name was excellent. we will def. consider dining again, next time we are in town.
Ordered steak and pasta. Both were cold, steak was dry and well done(I ordered it medium). Such a huge disappointment
Our experience was fine everyone in our party was able to find something on the menu that they liked
one of our old favorites in Duluth. Reliable food, like the ability to make Open Table reservations. Really like the salads, fish and pot pie.
We arrived for a food show at the DECC, and at night we came to your property for dinner. The service was excellent and the preparation of the items we ordered were done beautifully as was the flavor.
Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
I enjoy this restaurant in Duluth. It is one of only a few that take reservations on Open Table, or take reservations at all. With a 94 year old father-in-law, we need to be seated immediately and in a quiet to moderate volume location. Food is fabulous (try the chicken pot pie) and service is outstanding.
Great experience! Walleye was mediocre but drinks were fun and great atmosphere!
Outstanding friendly service. Food? Meh. Maybe we ordered on a non-fresh fish day?
We were celebrating a family anniversary and several birthdays. Black Woods provided a bottle of champaign and glasses for the gang. Our server was terrific! It’s always a bit loud there, but we can hear each other talk, and the whole family enjoyed the dinner.
Kiersten our server was very pleasant. I love the noise level at your restaurant, it’s non existent which is what we love!! The wild rice patty was very good. So was the margarita flatbread!
Fantastic view of the lake from the dining room. Great food and service. We will be back many times while our son is at UMD.
Great view of the lake, excellent service and food.
We make it a point to stop for a Walleye dinner at least once during our annual trip to Duluth. Service and location are great. However, for some reason, the Walleye this year was not up to par.
Parking was a bit of a problem even though we had a 7:00 reservation. Other than that it was an awesome experience. We were there for our anniversary and very pleased.
Overall this restaurant is an excellent choice for a pleasant evening. Seating was immediate in a booth with a beautiful view. The ambiance was excellent and service was exceptional. The wait staff was knowledgeable of both the food and drink options. Portions were more than ample and the entrees were quite delicious.
Walleye very bad.
Why do I have to do 50 characters?
The appetizer and salad (bleu cheese dressing specifically) were tops so we had high expectations for the entrees. My husband had the ribeye steak. It was cooked to perfection but I watched as he tried to cut it. The steak was the toughest piece of meat I have ever seen him try to cut. He confirmed that it was tough and hard to chew. I had the Black Woods Walleye-pan fried (with special seasoning blend). Whatever the seasonings were, it tasted bland. It was a disappointing meal. Our server was amazing. She was friendly and efficient-she was the best. I guess we'd give the place another try whenever we were in Duluth but try different entrees.
Having a reservation paid off. The wait for those without one was 40 minutes. When I told the hostess I had a reservation she said our table was ready. No waiting at all.
Server was great, food was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
Chicken and ribs were excellent. Swedish meatballs were not what I expected but good. Great service.
Blackwoods is a predictably good restaurant in Duluth and generally on our must visit list when in Duluth. Entrees and sides are all very good with generous portions. Wonderful views of Lake Superior from the dining room.
Wonderful. Celebrating our anniversary and our server was fantastic! The manager even came to our table to congratulate us. Couldn't have asked to be treated any better - even a free desert!
Need more help in the bar. Great place, good servers, not enough of them!’
We had reservations at 5:15, got there 10 minutes early and were told we’d have to wait until our reservation time. Meanwhile another couple came in without reservations and were immediately seated. When I inquired why, I was told they were seated by a bar employee not a hostess. There was no, “I’m sorry, we’ll seat you soon”.....we waited and then we were then seated at the time of our reservations. So started out with bad customer service. My food and daughter’s food was good. My husband got the prime rib, which was 75% fat/gristle. The waitress did finally come back and offered him a different cut of meat. She also said she’d take off the price of the first entree, but he had to wait about 10 minutes after we were all done to get his food (and we charged for the second entree). So basically he had an inedible meal, had to wait after we were done to eat and was charged for second late entree.
We have eaten here previously and it was good, it was daughter’s request (she’s from out of town) to go here and it was an unpleasant experience.
It may be because it was a weekend night and the restaurant just can’t handle the volume? So maybe no weekends and definitely no prime rib. And they need to work on customer service.
The steak has wonderful seasoning. Cooked perfectly.
The meal was average-
- whitefish with potato and croissant bun and 3 measly pieces of asparagus - colourless
- chicken quesadilla- had bbq sauce on it? no salsa
- Caesar salad was good - lovely piece of salmon
Service was good and attentive
The restaurant looks tired and dated - dried arrangement between tables was dusty.
There is much potential- not good food value for the cost.
Appetizer was forgotten and no silverware/napkins. Brought appetizer after meals and charged us for it. Waiter was friendly but not very attentive . Coconut shrimp over cooked. Filet was very good.
THREE COUPLES BOUGHT SWEDISH MEAT BALLS AND THEY WERE SO SPICY THEY COULD NOT EAT THEM. THERE IS NO HOT SPICE IN SWEDISH MEATBALLS.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE BEEN THERE THAT THE FIRE ALARM TRIGGERED AND NO ONE KNEW HOW TO TURN IT OFF. THAT ENDED OUR MEETING AND EVERYONE ELSE, BECAUSE YOU COULD NOT STAY IN THE BUILDING WITH THAT EAR PIERCING SOUND.
This place had killer ambiance for my husband and I. We had a lovely waitress, however, she was a bit slow. I honestly do not think she was goofing off...she was probably very busy.
The food was good. My husband had the CAJUN JAMBALAYA SKILLET, and he said it was excellent. I had the combo Chicken & Ribs. I wasn't too crazy about the bbq sauce, and the potato was a bit mealy, but the chicken was delicious. We started with Irish Portato soup and Prime Rib Veggie. They were both really good, but the Prime Rib soup...well, I could have eaten four bowls of that. It was SOOOOO good! Pluse they give you mini corn bread loaves, and those were excellent as well. I understand they make their own croissants. Must try the next tme.
Yes, there will be a next time...I would definitely go again. :-)
Quiet enough for conversation, coupled with tasty appetizers and entrees.
Flatbread cold. Lobster bisque average at best. Coconut shrimp cooked 3 hours too long. Filet bland and underwelming. Boundary water filet worst walleye ever eaten. Pasta very dry and not much cheese on it. Service was just ok. Blackwater needs to reopen.
The food and service were both very good. I was surprised it wasn’t very crowded for a summer Sunday night.
