Black Rabbit Restaurant & Bar
The kitchen uses seasonal ingredients from Edgefield's own gardens, grown using organic methods.
Black Rabbit is great fun, and very good food. I think it does not live up to my memory when I first went there, it seemed the food was more cutting edge, richer, tastier, it seems more bland foodwise than it used to be. Service was great and the atmosphere is very good. I think 4 stars would be a good rating!
We always have their breakfast and it is NEVER a disappointment. Consistently delicious. I recommend!
We came for breakfast/brunch on a Monday and it was fabulous. Great food, quiet but still cozy (not dead) and wonderful service.
We had reservations and had to wait 10-15 minutes after our reservation time. Service was rather poor. We waited quite a long time between our soup appetizer and our main entrees. Probably at least 20-30 minutes. The menu has changed a lot from what it was about 10 years ago. Only around 6 entrees to choose from on the menu.
The food and service was excellent. The restauarnt could have had more lighting. It was a bit too dark. The cost was expected for that type of restaurant.
Not a good experience on this visit . Usually this place is amazing..
Went for Mother’s Day brunch. My wife enjoyed her eggs benedict and I enjoyed the crab cake benedict. My eggs were on a bed of spinach and crab cakes - no english muffin clogging up the works. Also, we shared a cinnamon roll and fruit plate, both were good and it took off the edge of waiting for our benedicts.
Good food, bad service. Seated our reservation to another group when we were standing at the podium, already checked in and 5 min early.
Always amazing high quality food and service at the Black Rabbit!
Food was extremely salty, from the bread at the beginning to our main entrees the food was just over salted.
Very good food. Thanks
I'm from Des Moines Iowa and stopped in on my way home. Loved everything about your place. Have recommended it to most travelers stopping by and staying at any Choice Hotels. Food was superb as well as a food critic.
The Eggs Benedict over crab cakes, was heavenly! Hope this stays in the brunch menu beyond Easter!
We have Easter brunch here every year. The Dungeness crab cakes were delicious. I recommend walking the beautiful grounds to work off your meal. Edgefield is a treasure.
Great food and all of Edgefield to hang out in after dinner. Really enjoyed the meal and the location.
The service was stellar. The drinks were tasty and strong. The steak was amazing and the sides were great as well. The creme brule was out of this world.
Hostess was cold. We were sat at a table, set for 5 (?) rather than a booth, two walk in couples were sat in booths right before and right after us. Extra place settings sat there until server came. If this were our only experience we would choose alternate business .
The service was perfect. Limited menu but something for everyone. We had the chicken and ribeye and some salads, they were all good. Nothing too spectacular, except maybe the salted caramel creme brûlée, yum. The parking was difficult, but it’s a fun place to explore. We will go back when we’re looking for a simple meal with good service.
Consistently one of my favorites in Portland. Great flavors, innovative and reasonably priced.
We were disappointed as our first time was great last year on St. Patricks day. This year was awful. The corned beef was overcooked and mushy. No flavor. The potato and carrot was lumpy mush. Strangely enough the cabbage was just barely cooked! Browned on a grill and barely warm. When we ordered dessert we waited 23 minutes and I caught up wirh the waiter and requested that they just bag it and we would leave. THAT TOOK ANOTHER 30 MINUTES!! We paid way too much. $70.00, and left feeling cheated. The waiter was great as he did the best he could. The kitchen and chef were sadly lacking.
Wonderful and unique variety of dishes to choose from.
We had an excellent service experience. Food was decent.
Our server, Matthew was attentive but not overbearing, very polite and respectful. The food showed up at a reasonable time and was hot, tasted good but my omlette needed something to make the flavor pop, into fabulous. Not sure what would have done it but the chef might have fun with that. Overall, a very nice experience!
I had the scallops and they were cooked perfectly. The accompanying asparagus was also excellent. A great experience for both my husband and me. We will go back.
Interesting food, quiet low light level lighting, great date with my wife!
Great food, and a very enjoyable experience for Valentine's Day.
I was very disappointed right when I seen the menu. Let me start with I looked over the menu on Open table before making the reservation I watch what I eat found something acceptable. This reservation was for Valentines Day we get there and they have special Valentines Menu That was not stated or shown when I was making the reservation and you couldn’t order anything else nothing from the regular menu. I wanted to get up right away but where else am I going to go on Valentine’s Day without waiting hour. The special menu should have been posted, If I knew that was the menu I would have chose someplace else. Ended up paying more than I would have and having to settle.
Pleasantly pleased with everything - food, service, ambiance, price. This is a great place to have a relaxing breakfast. One of my new favorites.
Sorry, but I don’t care which location I’m in, McMenamins are all the same. Heavy and overdone on the architecture and interior design, mediocre food, and unfriendly service. I can’t believe management doesn’t think outside the box, and make some notable changes.
Excellent dining experience casual or dressy. Entrees a little pricey but worth it. Highly recommend! Bring your walking shoes it might be a walk from your parking space.
Service was slow, food was decent, the ambiance was cozy.
Went for New Year's eve dinner. The food was fabulous. The menu is not large, but the choices are good. Well prepared and plated food. My girlfriend ordered the striploin steak and was very surprised at the size of the cut. It was large enough that she ended up sharing the steak.
The service was extremely slow. The food was expensive and mediocre. We were staying at Edgefield so didn’t have another breakfast option, but cancelled our dinner reservation as a result of the poor breakfast experience.
We've come twice for Christmas and both times it's been outstanding. Especially the prime rib! Our server this time was Scott, and he was exceptional. Thank you for another great meal.
Our Christmas Day dinner was excellent! Service was awesome!
The service was excellent and the food was very good. A great restaurant especially for a special occasion.
Dined at brunch-time on Christmas Day. I appreciated that half portions were offered of most dishes. There were three of us, and two of the three really loved what they had and would order it again (an omelette and the eggs florentine. I ordered something called chilaquiles, which I hoped would be like what most people call huevos rancheros, but what it really is can best be described as "breakfast nachos", with all ingredients listed mushed together over spiced tortilla chips. This was for sure something to be eaten by hand, and I ordered it with the additional steak...a miserly scattering of well-done small chunks. I would not order this again. I ordered a peach Bellini, but the strawberry version was delivered. I didn't send it back because it was Christmas and I didn't want the fuss...any other day I would have. I tried a glass of the local made sparkling wine. It was meh for the money, a blanc de noirs with a heavy mouth feel and insufficient bubbles, bit maybe the bottle was not fresh. Anyway, there were numerous other items on the menu we would all have liked to try, so we'll be back. One of us had the Bloody Mary and deemed it excellent.
Fantastic Eggs Benedict!! Mimosas and overall great food, atmosphere, service. Great location.
