Black Rabbit Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time at the Black Rabbit and we were very impresed. The food was delicious and definitely worth its price. The environment was nice and quite. We went at night and they had candles out and the lighting was nice and dim. Service was exceptional. We are coming back for sure.
The Black Rabbit is a lovely, warm top notch restaurant. I love bringing Family and friends to explore the beautiful grounds, the unique, artful settings and a most interesting piece of Oregon History. You can also catch a movie, live music and many other amenities while there. A very special place with excellent service.
I booked a reservation for seven of us girls for lunch. The service was fantastic. Nice selection on menu..Most of us ate their adult cheese sandwich with unexpected ingredients. Delicious!
Salads were beautiful also. McMennimens Edgefield is a beautiful place. Daytime casual is great but the dining room feels very special with its ambiance and decor. We will return.
Had Thanksgiving dinner in the Barley Room would have a rated a 5 but we were dive bombed by some kind of fruit flies or gnats and I pulled at least 8 of them out of my glass of wine and smooshed a bunch on the table. Kind of ruined dinner.
Went for Thanksgiving dinner. Arrived, seated immediately. Friendly greeting. Server was just ok. Took her a while to get my glass of wine when the food arrived I had to wait. Was ok. Only stopped by once to check on us. All of this ok, I don’t like to be fussed over or interrupted often. I was a bit confused why the restaurant called me twice before today to confirm I was still going to show up for my reservation? They said they had a long wait list but..... there were lots of empty tables.
We went on a Sunday at 6 pm and the dining room was almost empty. It took 35 minutes for the food to arrive and no sight of the waitress . When it was finally delivered the food was barely warm. We suspect the plates just sat around .
The slow cooked wild boar was delicious. The Halibut dish at $34 was a rather small portion for the price. Halibut is in season right now at $20/lb from one of the top markets in Portland.
Their food is always delicious, and I am pretty sure I was given a free little brownie with a candle for my birthday, all my guests claim they didn't pay for it - which was super sweet- our waiter was great and it's always really fun. It is kind of spendy and there aren't that many options to not spend an arm and a leg - or at all, while their menu is usually good, there are only a handful of things to choose from.
Mcmennimins is notorious for horrible food, even worse service. All they ever had going for them was cool, kitchy, hipster venues and good beer. Its well known their food is horrible, with the exception of Black Rabbit restaraunt. My wife and i had a 7pm reservation for our anniversary as we got married at Edgefield. Should have known something was up when we showed up for our 7pm, Friday night dinner reservation and the restaraunt was 3/4’s empty. We quickly found out why. After the hostess sat us, we sat in basically an empty restaurant for 10 mins before our server showed. We were seconds from leaving.... we order and appetizer and drinks. Well after our appetizer showed up, some guy came by and asked us if we wanted bread? Why ask? Just bring it... if i dont want it ill send it back and it really would have been nice to have bread right after we sat down not 30 mins into our meal well after our appetizer showed up at the table. Then (remember we sat for 10 mins in an empty restaurant) out orignal server came up and told us they were sending him home becuse they are slow and we’d have someone else. Ok.... so why 10 mins before a server shows if youre so slow? When our food came... my Halibut was burnt on the edges, raw in the center had had some sort of jelly on top the were trying to pass off as a demi glaze. My wifes salmon was beyond over cooked and dry. She, out of embarassment did not send it back. I sent mine back. We will never visit McMennimins of any sort ever again. The cost vs quality in food and service is embarassing. Too many other options in Portland to waste your time at a McMennimins.
I've been to the Back Rabbit many times and couldn't complain about anything. However this visit was disappointing. Something was "off". The food was okay but just not up to BR's standards. The service was also okay, but as with the food it was just "off". I'm not taking the restaurant off my preferred list yet. Hoping this was just an off night and not what to expect in the future.
The food was surprisingly good. The setting is very interesting - the old Multnomah County poor farm. Ask your server to see the booklet about the history of the place. The service was a bit slow, but not unbearably so. The fact that the place was busy, plus the quality of the food made up for the slowness.
We had Christmas dinner there this evening. The snow/ice seemed to keep people from keeping their reservations, a little quieter than we were expecting. Our server Roni, was exceptional! We all ordered prime rib. When it arrived, it was luke warm, along with the creamed spinach. But it was cooked to perfection, and an outstanding cut that we very much enjoyed even almost cold. Can't say enough about our server Roni, again, the best server we've ever had anywhere in Portland. And we love this place every time we come. Thank you all for working so hard on a holiday and giving us exceptional food.
We were staying at the hotel and attending the evening concert when we had the opportunity to visit this restaurant. This is my 2nd time at this restaurant and I can say they were hitting on all cylinders tonight. The staff anticipated our needs, sharing plates, time crunch for the concert and even wine selections. This was definitely a high point for our visit to Edgefield besides the concert.
Big wedding weekend, and on a concert night, but 40 minutes for a cocktail when dining room was only half-full? When we left the table and went directly to the bar to actually get a drink, we saw wait staff getting diners their drinks as priority. Guess we didn't rate. Normally, dinner there has been very, very good.
