Our waiter was fighting with manager/kitchen staff during our visit. He was not attentive and we had a long wait. At the end of our meal, while some of us were still eating, he asked us if we are ready for our check and said "you don't want any desserts, right?". Ugh! Not a good mother's day experience for our dinner that night.
Great place! I would highly recommend. Service was outstanding. Food tasted great.
Black Powder was outstanding! The service was friendly and did a great job, atmosphere was so comfortable and the food was delicious! This was our first time dining (Mother’s Day) and we will definitely be back. Easy to get to and excellent parking too. 5 Star!
Let me say there was a misstep when I got there. Without going into details - they recovered well and served me one of the best fish and chip meals I have had. My server was knowledgeable and friendly. I like the place. Well lit and not to loud. My family really enjoyed the place. If you’re in Valley Forge- definitely worth the trip.
Way overpriced for a buffet and what was offered.
I will never again come to this restaurant for their Sunday buffet. A regular menu should have been offered also.
Went for Mother's Day brunch. The historic tavern was charming but the food was cold and overpriced. There was an over abundance of wait help but they seemed to ignore the customers.
Excellent Food great Mothers day brunch. Great selection of choices
My second time dining at the Black Powder Tavern. Very good food and great service.
On Mother’s Day, the place was completely packed, the lines were long for the buffet brunch and the manager was a complete a$$, telling us our time limit was up when we were never told there was a limit. The manager came back to our table 5 minutes later and rudely told us we had to leave because people were waiting for our table. For $39 per person we won’t be back!
The best poutine around. The peanut butter whiskey was a unique drink menu item as well
Had reservations. But it was upstairs. Would have rather wanted it downstairs. The music was way too loud upstairs. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. I would go again. But stay downstairs.
Promptly seated after checking in. We made a reservation. The server was largely indifferent to us throughout the meal until the time he “suggested” that they needed our table for another party. We were at the restaurant for exactly 1 hour when this occurred. Good food, poor service.
Happy Hour is great! Smaller portions so the happy hour is a good value! Best beer selection by far!
The food was great! The service was great! The facilities were very nice! The outside patio was very nice! I would definitely like to come back again!
The food was delicious. The service was excellent. The poutine is the absolute best!
Server was polite and attentive, food was great (have eaten there several times) and will continue to keep this location on our dining out list....
Food was great. French onion soup was the best I've ever had.
Very nice brunch
An outstanding experience. The waiter was the best we have had in a long time. The food was excellent and was hot when they brought it to the table.
A second visit after a very positive first experience in March. We were very pleased and have put this restaurant at the top of our Favorites List!
Awesome food. I got the french onion soup and chopped salad. My friend got the honey mustard chicken sandwich. Service was a bit slow but it was a very good experience. I will be back the next time I'm in the area!
Great food and atmosphere! Our server even took the time to tell us about the history of the building. Can’t wait to return!
Everything was excellent and I would recommend going there if you have never tried it before!
Love this place. Good food good service and overall great experience.
Wonderful service, delicious cocktails. The dishes are tried and true classic comfort food. Parking can be difficult durning prime dining hours due to location and size of lot.
Service was awesome from the waiter to the manager. Food not so good. I had meat loaf was not seasoned enough for me sister’s food was full of grease which manager took care of. I will try them again. Dessert was delicious as was the drinks.
Food was excellent. People were distanced and following restrictions.
The service at Black Powder is always impeccable. Just burgers and fries, but very tasty burgers and fries along with good choices for cocktails.
Really enjoyed our time at the Tavern. Will return, looking forward to dining in the patio!
We went on a Sunday at lunchtime. Friendly greeting at the door and the waitstaff was also friendly and efficient.
Sandwiches are a nice size for the price. One in our party had the steak and egg entree. They felt it was a very good choice. Everyone was happy with their selection.
A nice craft beer list is available.
Definitely would return.
Love the history of this place.
Great service and food.
We really enjoyed it here. The food and service were great!
Excellent mussels special. Only complaint was that it was noisy in the dining room.
Black Powder never disappoints. Three of us shared appetizers of loaded chips & calamari, both delicious. Our main courses were equally as good, as was the service. We ate comfortably on the patio, & very much enjoyed our long overdue get together.
Nice place for dinner with family and friends.
Quick service and excellent server. Made great suggestions. Highly recommend the poutine and maple glazed Brussel sprouts as appetizers.
We made a reservation on Open Table and I was very disappointed when we were seated next to the bathroom door at a table for two. Due to Pandemic requirements, the Governor opened restaurants to 75% and also bar seating. Every table was filled to 100%. Our waiter did not come back to refresh drinks and I really felt ignored. I was very uncomfortable with every person in the establishment walking by our table either to use the restroom, wait staff going to and from the kitchen or going to the bar. I have eaten here several times before and never had this experience. I know restaurants are trying to recover from the Pandemic, however I am not sure I will return to Black Powder Tavern after this past experience. I am hoping the manager reads this and realizes that particular table is placed inappropriately and would make anyone uncomfortable.
I normally would have said something while we were at the restaurant, however never had an opportunity. When we came home I gave the experience a great deal of thought and felt constructive criticism would be better than loss of business, so I hope this gets quietly passed along to management. Thank you.

Friendly staff, food was really good, beer list pretty thorough. Our waiter was incredibly nice, knowledgeable, attentive. All staff wore masks and tables were spaced well.
Visiting from our of town, this was one of the few places we could get a reservation on short notice on a Friday night. Honestly, the food was absolutely exceptional. My son had the steak frites. He's a 16-year old carnivore who has eaten in some pretty nice steak restaurants and he thought this was one of the best steaks he'd every had. I had the chicken burger, which was equally fantastic, which I ordered with a side of sweet potato fries that were cut like steak fries... super thick... but really airy and light and flavorful. Super delicious. We will definitely be going back, and will plan ahead as we want to make sure we don't miss out next time and might not get lucky at the last minute again!
