Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.

    Waitress was AWFUL! We were seated around 8, wasn’t that busy. It took her 15 minutes to come to our table. Order was wrong for both of us, she didn’t Check on us for another 20 minutes at that point our food was cold and we were starving. Also had to ask multiple times for a margarita that was ordered when we were first seated.

    Food is always good and fresh. Their service is the best- from the greeting at the door to the pleasant, efficient ,non rushing-you-out server. Justine was the best!

    We had a good meal at Black Powder Tavern for my friend's birthday. It was a early dinner but it was quite loud in the restaurant. I don't remember noticing that in the past. I tried something new from the menu, the pork dish, and it was pretty good. My friend had the caesar salad with shrimp and said it was good. We shared a dessert for her birthday - the apple crisp. The apples weren't cooked enough and it needed to be a bit warmer. Overall it was a good meal.

    Had a wonderful experience at Black Powder to have a belated Mother’s Day dinner. Was busy for a Thursday but noise not too bad. Still easy to have conversation. Restaurant had great ambience. Out server was excellent and attentive despite being busy. Food was excellent. Very cool restaurant. Could be great for a nice dinner or even catching a game at the bar. Will absolutely be back and recommend to others

    Food was very good, but bacon wrapped dates appetizer was a bit over cooked. Noisy bar crowd early, calmed down after 7, 7.30.

    Overall very good. A bit pricey for brunch, but everything is now. They had VERY few Vegan/Veg options available which was not a good thing - but they went out of their way to make a special plate of vegan food which was a solid gesture. Manager also told us in the future, just make sure to tell them and they can address it.
