Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.

We had dinner at the Black Powder with friends and it was a great experience. Food was good and staff was friendly. All in all a good experience.

We love dining at Black Powder, it is easy, comfortable and convenient. The menu provides many choices and we always find something that hits the spot. The service is friendly and takes good care of you.

I always forget how expensive it is to eat here. $95 for two people (one of which was a kid) to eat, with one beer on the bill? $9 “bowl”, which was literally four - five spoons, of veg soup…

The only reason I gave a 4 was a mistake in the kitchen that was quickly rectified by waitstaff and management. Rest of the experience was wonderful

Waitress was AWFUL! We were seated around 8, wasn’t that busy. It took her 15 minutes to come to our table. Order was wrong for both of us, she didn’t Check on us for another 20 minutes at that point our food was cold and we were starving. Also had to ask multiple times for a margarita that was ordered when we were first seated.
