Black Powder Tavern
This was our first time visiting. Service was very slow from the start and throughout our dining experience. Server also forgot to bring soup. However server was nice and knowledgeable of menu.
Nice atmosphere and amazing food for a great price. It had a unique veggie burger. The best I’ve ever had!
Everything was really very good -- we were meeting people we hadn't seen in years and Jay was very about letting us talk and catch up but available as we needed him. He acknowledged (from my credit card) that we were veterans and treated with great respect.
The only thing was that we were offered a side (which was very good) but he didn't advise that there was an upcharge for it. We'd have paid it willingly, but we should have known and not been surprised when we got the check
Disappointing experience. Extremely noisy, wife salad very disappointing and ate barely half and little of the grilled chicken thatchad odd odor. Greens not very fresh and just plopped with a glob of dressing. My night special of Cioppino was sort of ok, thick and salty. A few small shimp and mussels and cannellini beans (?) in small bowl. Different from any I have ever had. No plans to return any time soon.
Dear Ron K Thank you for taking the time to let me know about your experience. I am very disappointed to hear about your visit. Please accept my sincerest apology. Our standard in the kitchen is to use only the freshest ingredients. I will be talking with my Chef regarding both of your meals. I would appreciate an opportunity to speak further with you about this. I will message you privately with my email. Thank you. Bernie Bottmeyer General Manager Black Powder Tavern
Tina was excellent!
Excellent service with creative takes on classic favorites! The Mac and cheese is outstanding!
Unfortunately there were too many bookings at the same time and we had to wait 25 minutes for our table. When we sat down we were put by a window and it was freezing. The waitress was a bit distracted. We have fined here for years and always enjoyed it. It honestly felt like being at a fast food restaurant so we will wait a while before we return.
Tina was a terrific waitress!
Friendly & efficient staff. Food was delicious and the beer selection sufficient.
Noce spot to meet for a casual dinner. Easy in, good parking, good menu, relaxed atmosphere.
Food was terrible and service was slow. Will not be going back

Highly recommend . I have had the pleasure of dining here before but my 2 friends had not. From the moment we walked in until we left we had a wonderful experience. Our server was very attentive and our food and drink choices were delicious .
We all agreed we will be back soon!
Really nice cozy place to meet up with a couple of girlfriends. The food is really good and the drinks are great too. This is an all selections, really great beers on tap, and the food is consistently delicious.
Food was not up to par. Would not go back. Was a favorite years ago.

We have waited 20 minutes during lunch time for a dialy special food that came cold, dry and not what waiter described!

Black Powder tavern is a local "default" spot -- food is consistently good (not great), service is friendly and it is typically easy to get into with a nice bar area that includes high tops. Took some friends there for a holiday lunch -- was very good meal according to all. I got the schnitzel - was tasty and not greasy and the portion was just right. The others got lunch salads and all were happy with them. Desserts were a hit. Our server, Max, did a great job.
We have been coming to Black Powder for many years since I moved to Chesterbrook in 2002. I usually order the same thing every time...a Caesar Salad with Salmon. Lately, I am disappointed with it due to no parmesan cheese and those terrible HARD pieces of bread that they substitute for croutons. The salmon portions are smaller also. I wish they would go back to the "old days" when they added the parmesan and regular croutons. I'm afraid those days may be gone forever. Sad! My partner had the meatloaf which he enjoyed.
Thank you for reaching out to us with your valuable feedback about our Salmon Caesar Salad. We’re so happy to have you as our guest for the past 17 years, and it disappoints me to hear we have fallen short on your favorite dish. Please accept my apologies. I’d appreciate a chance to speak with you further. Per OpenTable’s policy, I will directly message you my email address. Will you please reach out with your name, number, and a good time to call you? Food and drinks were great, last minute decision to go here and I’m glad we did.
Yes, but not what we thought it was like we went to celebrate our 24th anniversary it was very loud. My husband prime rib didnt have any seasoning or taste.
The food was very good, and the service was very good. Black Powder tends to be a rather "lively" (noisy) restaurant...so it was a bit difficult to hold a conversation at the table. Additionally, our booth was next to a window...and it was quite chilly for the person sitting next to the window.
Service was good, appetizers were good but steak frites was not good the meat must not have been of the best quality as it was very tough.
Food was Ok, so was service. Didn’t have coffee prepared so had to wait for a cup. Waiter said sandwiches came with choice of side. Incorrect. Only slaw, fries or chips were included. Spinach is $4 upcharge. The check was adjusted. No reason to recommend nor to return.
The service was outstanding, the food was very good. Only complaint was the noise level...it was extremely difficult to hear others at my table speaking.
Great great service...very good food...very nice atmosphere.
Overall a very enjoyable get together with friends.
Always consistent... great service and meal.
Friendly place where you can enjoy your company and relax.
As usual, we had an excellent meal, as the Tavern is consistently very good to excellent. Our server, Jay, was a bit much, almost like a pushy car salesman. His service itself was excellent, but he needs to tone down what comes across as hyper and pushy-ness.
To be fair it was Thanksgiving, our reservation was one hour before the end of the the reservation timeframe. There were some holes on the buffet, initial drink time delivery was slow considering... our server was the Best but I did notice quite a few others congregated by the bar looking at their phones (!).
They did a good job being late in I’m sure was a long day. Would that deter me from returning? Definitely not, the Black Powder rocks! PS the enthusiasm of the gal at the carving table - 10+ 🤩
We enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet very much. The turkey was juicy and tender. The stuffing yummy. The other sides delicious. We really enjoyed the blue cheese, crasisin,, Apple, walnut and greens salad. The salmon was very good as well. Everything was organized service excellent. Staff friendly.
We are definitely going back next year! We loved it
Thanksgiving dinner was fabulous!!!
I would not recommend Black Powder Tavern. We ate there as a family on Thanksgiving. We were seated in a very busy area. It was a buffet and the entire time they were running out of items. Even the main course, turkey and ham. My husband and I stood in the buffet line waiting for a good 10 minutes for them to replace the turkey and ham as our other food got cold. They offered one dinner salad and our daughter went up twice and they were out of it. Service was horrible. Our waiter offered us drinks once when we sat down and never offered again. We had to ask other service people to find our waiter and replace things. We took our own dirty plates to an area because they were not been taken off our table. I discussed everything with the manager. While we were still there the manager took it upon himself to tell the waiter that we had complained. I over heard our waiter complaining about it with other staff. Very unprofessional!!! Never again.

We had a wonderful time. The food was amazing. We would definitely return.
Everything was wonderful food service atmosphere
I would recommend to all friends
This was our second time here for Thankgiving buffet. Food was very good. Not too large of a place so reservations are a must. I booked 6 weeks in advance. Best part is it isn't noisy or jam packed like other
larger holiday buffets.
The food was excellent, and I would definitely return again!
The food was good. The waitress was distracted and inattentive.
15 minutes to get water, 30 minutes to get bread.
I’m so sorry to learn about the lengthy wait times you experienced when you dined with us. Please be assured that I am speaking with my team about your feedback so that this doesn’t happen in the future. We like going to Black Powder. This day there were two issues which were less than agreeable. One was out of the control of the restaurant. A crying toddler whose parent's thought a busy restaurant was a place to allow their child to cry for at least 15 minutes before being comforted. The second was a new server who seemed to be overwhelmed with the crowd. So this time I couldn't give our typical 5 stars.
