We enjoyed our dinner at the Black Pearl. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, and the food was delicious. The only drawback was that the air conditioner was broken, and it was warm in the restaurant. We were seated near an open window, which helped. 2 of us had the roasted
chicken, and 2 of us had the trout. Finally, 3 of us had cheesecake with a strawberry/raspberry sauce. We all agreed that it was the most delicious cheesecake that we had eaten in a very long time.
Black Pearl offers the best summer indoor/outdoor experience for a wonderful romantic dinner or a birthday celebration. During our first two visits the food and service were impeccable, and therefore, an exceptional dining experience and value. However, this visit was somewhat disappointing because instead of offering bread we had to specifically ask the waiter, the celery stalk in my Bloody Mary was limp and the replacement had a brown spot which I had to cut out myself, and the servings seems smaller than we remembered. The attention to detail for an upscale restaurant seems to be slipping and thus the good value for dining.
The hostess was very friendly and professional. Joshua our server was excellent. Our entrees were delicious and beautiful in appearance. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We dined inside by the front window which was open so we had a fun view of the foot traffic on S. Pearl St. The outdoor dining area is also really cool. I look forward to dining there again!
Thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the outdoor space with 4 couples. Cheese and Meat platter for starters, then sockeye salmon, mussels, filet & lobster, and NY strip. All was thoroughly enjoyed. The patio is fairly quite so we could all hear each other talking. We will be back.
The brunch menu is completely uninspired and limited. It belies there excellence in dinner. I was shocked that really was a breakfast menu, not a brunch menu at 1 PM on a weekend. I would never go back for brunch. I have had better breakfast at far more upscale places. The black pearl needs to hold itself to a much higher standard 24 seven.
Black Pearl has potential but prices currently exceed delivery.
1. Major construction across the street with fairly active use of a nail gun and some traffic noise detracted from experience.
2. Oysters were not shucked properly / carefully and had shell debris forcing return of one platter.
3. Calamari was basically fair to good. Theres somewhat of an art to excellent calamari and most places haven't achieved it.
4. Server was very attentive and checked in frequently. No issues with service at all.
Great neighborhood location. Not too loud, beautiful patio. They opened the huge windows on a georgeous Colorado evening. A little disappointed in both food and service. Wonderful spinach pasta, adding chicken a must. Red velvet cake and sorbet were winners. Green chili, although delicious, needed a crunchy accompaniment. No bread presented to the table. Fish special, while the asparagus and couscous great sides, fish arrived cold, undercooked and unappealing presentation of skin side up. Overall prices reasonable; felt the special was over priced.
My mom and I came for Mother's Day brunch a couple of years ago. It was very good. My mom, who is not a brunch person, wanted to come back asap. We finally made it back for this Father's Day and were disappointed. There is nothing special anymore about their brunch menu. The food was good, not great but good. It was very basic and not worth the drive or price. The service was good, no complaints there. Over all I'd give my experience a 3/5
They ran out of jam at 10:00 in the morning when they were just starting to serve brunch. Outside there was the farmers market on with more than one booth selling jam. Our server told us that he was sorry that they ran out and even after suggesting they go buy some outside, they declined. Their french press coffee is something they do in the back and serve in a carafe which came out lukewarm. I emailed them and they never responded. Don't bother with this place!
This was our second trip to the Black Pearl. The menu has been significantly reduced since our previous visit. The food was quite good, but the portions were small and expensive. My wife, a vegetarian, ordered the pasta, and received a tiny serving of tasty, but not earth-shattering pasta, certainly not commanding the price. I had the lamb, which was prepared perfectly, and fingerling potatoes, very well executed, but again a very small portion for the price. I would be more reluctant to complain if the menu featured more options, and they presented there dishes as small plates, but there was not really anything else on the menu for my wife to order, and few complimentary dishes for me to pair with the lamb. We had to go out to a second dinner afterward. The drink lists were fairly small, but full of excellent beer, wine and cocktail options.
Second time I've tried this restaurant and second time my food was either not cooked or cold. It tasted good but due to the extremely slow service it was luke warm when I received it. When I sent it back in hopes of a new hot plate, the manager came to tell me that was the last plate of fish they had so I couldn't even get another one. I would have kept it had I known, as I was forced to order something that I didn't want because they were out of the second thing I would have ordered as well. It had been years since I went back after the first experience and was sad that this one wasn't any better. However, all that being said, the manager was extremely apologetic and happy to do whatever she could to make it up to us. As nice as she was, the excuses of an entirely new waitstaff, small kitchen, and busy restaurant was just that, excuses, and as lovely the location and area, this visit will cinch my decision to never return.
The service was great! It's a smaller resturant and even though I hadn't made a reservation they managed to fit us in. Buck a shuck Tuesdays are great if you love raw oysters! The brussel sprouts were unbelievable - a favorite at our table! If you love seafood you should check it out.
A common addition to a gin martini is a stuffed green olive and/or cocktail onions. My wife requested Bombay Saffire gin with two onions. The onions were RAW and when the bill came it had the name of a gin we'd never heard of. If you are going to serve dry martinis, get it right. The raw onions literally left a bad taste in her mouth.
Our waiter was very accomodating.
The modified Mother's Day brunch menu was a disappointment. The few items I had my heart set on were not available. I ordered a side of fresh fruit and they brought me dried cranberries and apricots, sliced apple and oranges...felt like it should have been on a cheese plate.
We chose to have our Mother's Day brunch this year at the Black Pearl, an old haunt that we had not visited in quite a while. We quickly regretted our absence, as everything was perfect--the food, the service, the ambience, the drinks. We had normal brunch fare, but everything was prepared perfectly. We especially enjoyed the French Press coffee, which was delicious, and the mimosas, which were mixed just right, not too sweet, not too strong. The service was excellent, responsive but not intrusive, and we walked out asking each other, why haven't we been here in so long? We think that their business may be suffering a bit because of the limited parking caused by, ironically, the construction of a big new parking lot across the street, but parking half a block away was not a big deal to us. We are anxious to return for dinner or cocktails soon, as we were reminded of the gorgeous patio and fire pit as well as the elegant and spacious bar. All thumbs up for The Black Pearl.
We have enjoyed Black Pearl over time, but not this time. The food was disappointing. Two of us had the green chili and the other the waffle for lunch on Mother's day. The chili had little flavor and the hard biscuit was tasteless. The waffle came with butter and syurp. Fruit was requested and provided.
The food was plain.
Went for brunch. Appetizer was good Ordered food from somewhat limited menu food arrived and they made my wife the wrong thing. Took 30 minutes to get the right order out and even then it wasn't right. They comped us for her meal and the appetizer and bill was still $65 for 3 adults and one child!!! Not impressed.
Brunch menu was limited to breakfast food and a few sandwiches. Really wanted the lamb burger and truffle fries. Cheese plate was exceptional ! Green chili needed some more depth, lacked body. Wanted more fries on the French Dip.
Really wanted oysters and appetizers for brunch, but the brunch menu did not offer these. Server seemed confused, and was a little slow.
I keep coming back here wanting to like this place more, but truth is the food just is t up to par and it's getting worse. I had biscuits and gravy at brunch and the biscuits were ridiculously dense. I needed a lot more gravy than they gave me for it to be palatable. I do like the atmosphere, but I think this was my last dining experience here. I'll stick to cocktails at the bar.
Ordered the lamb medium and it came out basically rare. The steak with the surf and turf was ordered medium rare and it was almost well done. Told the waiter that and he didn't offer a new steak. Desserts were okay. The server was hovering until we actually needed him. Took ten minutes for him to come over to get the bill from him.
Great overall experience. Friendly staff. Chef's Board was a highlight. Only negatives were: the 2-person tables are very close together, the menu was completely different from the online menu, they no longer serve duck, and their only dessert offering were just two types of cake. The wine was expensive. We paid $70 for a bottle. Still, I liked the place and would go back again.
Couldn't get any service at bar. Sat and waited at bar so that I could get an expensive bottle of wine bought and opened but bartenders too busy chatting about their personal love of playing cards... Unbelievable.
Our waitress was amazing. She saved the night.
Most of our meal was great - appetizers were awesome and so were the entrees. The only complaint was the dessert. We ordered the smores, and the person who brought the food out said to us "this isn't usually how it's served, it's usually smokey and a much better presentation." The dessert was super cold and not great.
Went to black pearl for restaurant week. Portions were extremely small and not really great, especially compared to the other restaurants we went to for restaurant week. I called ahead because we had someone in our party with gluten allergies and they told me no problem they could definitely accommodate. Our waitress said they couldn't change anything on the menu and couldn't really offer any replacements. Not sure if that's because they couldn't or she didn't ask. She wasn't very helpful or knowledgeable. Our initial drinks also took 20 min to get to us and the restaurant wasn't busy.
