Extremely DIFFICULT for a disabled person or elderly as there is no VALET or easy access to parking!
At $ 240 for 2 I EXPECT one or the other.
The server was impeccably professional
The grilled octopus is undersized and has a rather ridiculous pile of red onion to mask this.
A village salad again was less than generous (four slices of cucumber, three olives and two minuscule slivers of feta) really? The tomatoes were divine.
Both the Dover sole and Bronzini were delicious and served at table!
Overpriced, unimaginative and extremely difficult to get in the door.
Save your money. Try Samos in Greek Town--you'll feed 6 at that price and your guests will be just as happy.
The Black Olive can always be counted on to provide fresh, well prepared seafood as well as traditional Greek plates. This visit was no exception. After sharing the saganaki plate (grilled halloumi cheese and thinly sliced zucchini) and grilled sardines in grape leaves (very nice size sardines that were tender and salty)--both delicious. My husband enjoyed a grilled bronzini and I had the lamp chops and crab cake. I would not normally order a crab cake, but after touring the fresh fish and seeing this cake that lacked filler I could not resist pairing it with the fresh beautiful lamb chops. Both were seasoned beautifully to let the produce shine. Bonus--I keep a gluten-free diet and the crab cake is gluten free--that alone should tell you that it is free of filler.
My wife and I had missed lunch at the Black Olive and were anxious to try it again now that lunch is back. We both had the $20 prix fixe lunch with a supplement for the grilled octopus salad. We consider that dish to be one of the best in town. The rest of the meal was also very good. Although new, our server was pleasant and attentive. A great lunch! We hope they keep it up.
Fabulous food in a pleasant ambiance. Service was superb
Have been coming here for years. Got to have all my favorites—grilled octopus, sardines, whole fish. Will keep coming back as long as it’s here.
Wonderful evening and dinner. Excellent service and attention. Great for a romantic evening out.
Octopus salad was amazing.
Such a shame. I used to LOVE this place. I was so excited to come back here as. I was bringing a friend who had never been.
Melanzata salata- good. Nothing more
Sardined wrapped in grapeleaves- meh
Grilled "jumbo" shrimp- not only were there only 3, maybe medium sized shrimp, two tasted off. Had that amonia like quality to them. We did not eat the third. Informed the server and they took that off our bill.
Bronzino was good, if not a bit smaller than I remember. I used to think they used wild caught. I believe the ones I had we're farm raised.
Friend had the seafood pasta. Was supposed to be lobster, scallops and shrimp. Given the issue with the shrimp the server suggested doubling up on the scallops. My friend was not impressed.
Overall: the portion sizes and quality seem to have gone down while prices have gone up. The service was pleasant if not a little slow, but tolerable, we were in no rush.
Wine a beer were good.
Maybe this was just a bad night? I hope so, was one of my favorites.
Nice walk in Fells point area. Neighborhood restaurant off beaten path. Quiet streets. Good food and service. Greek cuisine, something a little different. Fresh fish. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.
Excellent food but slow kitchen. Took quite some time to get meal. We weren't in a rush so it was fine but if you have a time commitment you may want to see how busy they are.
I was shocked at how very mediocre to bad our food was. I don't mind paying a lot for a good meal but this was not a good meal. It was a little embarrassing to have taken out of town guests there.
Great food. Great service. Would definitely recommend
This was a home run! In the 8+ years I've been coming here, this was the best experience my wife and I had. We celebrated our 30th anniversary
The food that we had was excellent and we had a very nice meal.
We had not been to the Black Olive for quite some time. We are very glad we came last weekend. The bronzino was absolutely delicious as was the grilled octopus appetizer. An order of hummus was quite good as well. While the Black Olive is not an inexpensive restaurant, compared to other eating places in downtown Baltimore it is an excellent value!
Our server expertly filleted the fish at our table. It was delicious. We had the combo appetizers which they reduced in size since it was only the two of us. We felt the staff was very accommodating and had a cheerful attitude.
Nice, cozy atmosphere with very comfortable chairs, but they were out of at least four types of seafood. I got the seafood pasta, but since they were out of scallops I paid $34 for a giant bowl of pasta that I could've made myself, 3 shrimp and one bite of a lobster tail. Our food took a very long time especially considering we were one of two couples in there and our server was clearly cleaning up and trying to leave rather refill our water, etc.
Amazing restaurant perfect for a classy date
The food was good but very expensive. An entree for $52.00 without alcohol is salty. We ask for more tapenade and they charged us $10.00 on our bill.
Awful. Sat there for 20 mins and nobody came by to take a drink order. Admittedly, I can’t review food, because we bailed before we could order any.
But the smell of three day old fish and unappetizing olives seemed to warrant a one star review in that category.
We had not been to the Black Olive for several years and found it just a charming and delightful as we remembered. Fish is a definite when going to Black Olive and we have never had a bad experience. The food was wonderfully prepared and the presentation was superb.
Would recommend Black Olive for special occasion or just for a nice dinner out.
This is a can't miss evening out!
Excellent food and service. Because it was restaurant week, the price was right.
Fantastic food and superb service, Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
This place has been my go to for a long time. I did miss my res by 1/2 hour, should have called ahead, ended up having to eat at the bar. My Lamb shank was tops, my wife filet just so so. Overall was still a good place to grab a meal!
Outstanding food, but the service was uncharacteristically slow. Possibly due to it being restaurant week.
It was simply an excellent meal. We were there for restaurant week, and I would highly recommend this restaurant. It has unique dishes and we are never disappointed. I must say the appetizers in particular are always a great.
Waiter disappeared frequently and was not attentive but otherwise food was good.
We came for restaurant and had an awesome experience. The food was delicious and very filling. The service was so attentive. We will be back.
Always a good experience. The Black Olive knows fish. The Greek wine list is exceptional.
Restaurant week is an opportunity to gain new clients. The Black Olive lost 4 clients. Tough octopus, small portions, a poor crab cake, dry bronzini accompanied by mashed sweet potatoes. And we had to WAIT for this (all the tables of 4 seated after us received entrees before ours.) one visit and done.
We didn’t realize it was restaurant week so had a very limited menu from which to choose. The bread is fabulous. The grilled fish was nice and fresh but potatoes served were cool and there was go green on the plate. Servers filleted the fish tableside but both me and my companion had many bones to work around. Servers and hostess were very pleasant and seemed to appreciate our business. I guess I’d try another time when we could order off the entire menu.
I had an absolutely wonderful time and the food was delicious.
Nice Treasure to try in the City. Might have parking issue. Will recommend!
Excellent meal in quiet comfortable environment. Black Olive remains one of the best three restaurants in Baltimore.
While the main courses were good, the wine list is lacking. Very few decent choices. Our server was very unfriendly and disinterested, which was sad for such an upscale place.
We are new to the area, and on a recent snowy day, we made our way there by car. We thought there was valet parking. But when they called to confirm, and advised there was no valet, they promised to help with our car! Can you imagine, they took our car and parked it for us? It was so helpful, as we didn't see any possible parking available! It was a quiet night there due to the snow, and we had excellent service, and the food was really delicious and authentic. We loved our wine selection. It felt like a healthy, delicious meal. Can't wait to go again!!
An incredibly delicious seafood-filled meal! We started with fantastic olives and bread. We ordered Octopus salad and Sardines for appetizers. For entrees, we had branzino fillet and a seafood sampler! A great place for a couple to go for a great ambience and romantic setting!
The fish was outstanding. Our waitress was knowlegeable and helpful. It was costly but worth it.
Salmon tartar was amazing
In a word, our experience awesome! Two couples who had not seen one another for some time wanted a special place to dine, where we had plenty of time to eat good food and catch up on one another's lives. The black olive was it. 3 of us had a different fresh, and the 4th, being not so hungry, had the single crab cake on a small plate. She pronounced it perhaps the best crabcake she has ever had. Service was excellent as were the wines. Three of the four of us qualify as slow walkers, so were disappointed to find no valet parking. The owner came out to apologize and, seeing our situation, parked my car for us and fetched it when we were done eating! To put all of you at ease, he has said that he is presently negotiating to reestablish valet parking. So it was, without a doubt, a great evening.
