This was our 1st visit to The Black Olive and overall, it was a very pleasant dining experience. This highly-rated restaurant was sparsely populated when we arrived at 8:15 last Sat. night, which we were told was due to the recent Coronavirus concerns in MD. For that reason, I can't accurately assess and rate the noise level. Our service was excellent, as was the food. In particular, our seafood entrees (grilled snapper and grilled black sea bass) were phenomenal, with very generously-sized portions. The cozy ambiance of the restaurant was very nice, however I have reduced my rating in that category to just 3 stars because of the EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE dining chairs. Mind you, I tried out a few, as did the members of the dinner party next to us, who voiced the same complaint. The springs on the seats of these chairs were way beyond their shelf lives, and negatively impacted my dining experience, as I couldn't get comfortable and my back ached throughout my meal. In my opinion, this is unacceptable for such an upscale restaurant. We plan on returning to The Black Olive in the future, and highly recommend it, but only after the chairs have been replaced.

Decided to take my mother-in-law and fiancé here for lunch. You can’t beat the $20 pre fix menu, even with the up charges the items were priced very appropriately. I had gotten the Mediterranean sea bass, perfectly cooked. My fiancé had opted for the crab cake, best he’s ever had. Then my mother in law had the village pie, such a lovely entree with so many delicious tastes from the Greek cheese to the leeks and spinach. We all will definitely be coming back!

The red snapper was perfectly grilled as well .
My wife enjoyed the lamb chops which were beautifully prepared.
If you enjoy gin then you must ask for the Greek botanical “Grace Gin”.

Wait staff while friendly and knowledgeable were rather stretched thin, took an extended time for service throughout the meal. They seemed to be confused over which tables they were covering. Noticed the couple next to us complaining and left after appetizers, while we left before desert because the waiter did not come back for an extended time to get our order. We asked for the check instead.
Been to this place many times, and food is always very good. Cocktails nicely done. The whole fish is a must. The greek wines are always nice to try. Friendly staff, the back room is very quiet (never stayed in the front one). Definitely worth a visit!
We are picky foodies yet black olive passed with flying colors. Never have had grilled octopus so tender. My grilled red snapper was the best I’ve ever had and my wife’s bronzini was excellent-both perfectly grilled and succulent. Our waiter picked a well-matched and affordable Greek wine. The desserts did not wow: the baklava had perhaps sat too long because the philo wasn’t as crisp as it should be and the nut filling was slightly bitter.
The Black Olive is a special place. The food is different, fresh, consistent, and just delicious. The restaurant was packed so service was a bit slower, but the team is so personable and engaged, and the food is so worth it that it did not dampen the experience one bit. I highly recommend that you go there to relax and enjoy the wonderful food options. The fresh fish is amazing as well.
Charming atmosphere, friendly service, GREAT food!
The Black Olive never disappoints. The food is superb, the most humble dish is elevated to an unbelievable degree of perfection. Servers anticipate needs of patrons, resolve those needs and unobtrusively move on to take care of another table.

We went early on a Saturday evening and had an attentive server who didn’t rush us. He recommended the rockfish which three of us got and it did not disappoint. It was a generous piece of fish, grilled, cooked perfectly and seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice and herbs. Just delicious. The fourth of our party got the snapper and was disappointed in that it was a bit overcooked and while the server filleted it table side, still had quite a few bones left in it.
We also got the scallops and the grape leaf wrapped sardines as appetizers. The scallops were tender and delicious. The sardines were not my taste but maybe others would enjoy them.
Carrot cake for dessert was a bit dry.
Overall the place has great atmosphere and I would definitely go back.

Delightful treat, the food was amazing! We ordered several small plates, chicken souvlaki, crab cake, stuffed octopus and lamb shank... The lamb shank is two meals by it's self, very tasty!
This was an atypical review for the Black Olive as it is usually terrific. We had several issue; first the waiter didn't seem to interested in friendly service and being present at all at the restaurant, secondly and the biggest issue, was the food was actually not warm. This fish was still tasty even though it was less than room temperature, but the vegetables didn't fare so well. We were there for restaurant week and found the server and the food absolutely delightful. We have eaten many times at this lovely charming restaurant and have always felt it was exceptional! Our last meal, not so!

The Black Olive was just delicious. The menu was different, inventive yet comforting and traditional all at the same time. We were surprised and delighted by the menu, and the cozy atmosphere in this little nook of the world. Our waiter Neil was outstanding. He was attentive without being overbearing. We had the lamb meatballs which were fantastic, but the Bronzino and Scallops were both exquisitely done. I can't wait to go back to this beautiful oasis. If I lived nearby I would make this a weekly stop.
Food is pretty good for Fell Point standers. They should take another look at their prices. It’s expensive for just ok quality. Service was very good.
This is the second time I come to Baltimore for work, and the third time I’ve gone to the Black Olive! It’s really quite amazing and the fish selection is spectacular. Delicious entrées, melt in your mouth octopus and wonderful bread. One of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore!
The food was good but nothing extraordinary. They forgot to bring us bread and we had to request it, it was very cold when they brought it. Service was okay, might have been worse due to restaurant week. We liked it but a little expensive for the value.
This is a wonderful restaurant at which to eat. The price of food is relatively high, but you get more than value for what you order. While in Baltimore, it is a place to visit and have a memorable meal.
I took my girlfriend out for Baltimore’s Restaurant Week to the Black Olive. Great authentic Greek style food. The olive bread was a great start and the octopus and scallops were cooked to perfection. I had the whole bronzini as my entree and I was not disappointed (don’t get it fileted so that way you can enjoy it to the fullest including the tasty eyes). My only complaint would be that the prices seemed a bit steep, especially for Restaurant Week, but I’d like to believe that those prices reflect sourcing the highest quality seafood. Overall I would recommend this restaurant again.

I went for Restaurant Week dinner. I upgraded to have the crab meets Maine Lobster bisque and dover sole. I also tried a white Greek wine. I ate at the bar.

We will definitely return to Black Olive during a time that is not restaurant week. But the menu they picked for restaurant week really seemed to showcase the chef's talents. The grilled octopus salad and lamb meatballs are a must try for appetizers. The savory bread pudding was surprisingly tasty as well. The octopus was perfectly grilled - first time I've tried it - but based on this preparation, I would definitely try again. The lamb meatballs were tender and flavorful and a perfect portion size. Our group all tried the different fresh fishes - bronzini, rockfish, etc. All very fresh and delicious. Portions were just right and left enough room for the tiramisu, chocolate mousse and baklava ice cream were passed around the table but we could not decide which one was more perfect. Our service was very good - waiter was nice and helpful with suggestions. We will be back.
Staff lunch for Baltimore Restaurant Week. There were good menu choices for lunch, which is why I chose Black Olive. We were all able to chose something different. Portions were ridiculously small. Grilled octopus was cooked perfectly, which is always a difficult feat. The falafels were good, not greasy. One, however, was hard like it had been reheated in the microwave. Would go back at another time to try other items, not during restaurant week.
Very expensive. It was restaurant week. Supposedly to have fixed menú for fixed price. For more than half Ot the dishes you had to pay an additional 7 to 20$. This is dishonest way to get more money from people. On top of everything portions were very small. I hate to be tricked like this. Shame on you restaurant owner. Will never come back.
NEVER again during Restaurant Week! maybe again during normal operation hours. service was poor, and the portions were very tiny and the quality was much worse than normal.

First time dining at Black Olive, certainly won’t be my last time. Visited during Baltimore’s Restaurant week, so slightly limited menu, but everything I ate was excellent!
